50 Years ago : The test Debut of Sir Gordon and Sir Viv
West Indies vs India at Bangalore
A Phillip Spooner Production.
I recently had the amazing opportunity to interview the greatest of the Greats Sir Viv and Sir Gordon. The energy of these two gentlemen - both now 70+ is amazing.
You couldn’t help but be engaged as they told the stories of their illustrious career and a few nuggets of wisdom about things off the field. It was just “Cricket, Lovely Cricket”, nostalgia, upliftment and some humor.
What they agreed on:
Maco was the maestro
Collis was the King of 1979 final
Lloyd was the ultimate leader
Both ended their careers with stellar records. Sir Gordon played 108 Tests and made 7,558 runs at an average of 44.7. His top score was 226 against Australia at Kensington Oval in 1991 in his penultimate innings. In his first-class career he made 37,354 runs with 92 centuries.
