You could tell the 4th opponent, Chilbi, the Illuna player, was just like "oh this is cool, Imma let this play out." The heart emote, the mic drop emote, and then actually clicking through all the discard and sacrifices... You had them, they knew it, and they were happy to let you enjoy your combo.

Back when it was first printed, Necropotence was considered a bad card. It's only later when players figured out how to exploit it.

I would like to mention that if you happen to untap Rowan, the second activation stacks on top of the first. And there happens to be two cards that cost just R to cast to untap and grant haste to Rowan. Claim the Firstborn, and Tentative Connection.

@LVD: Unless they changed how she works, since Rowan’s activation just says spells cost less per life lost this turn, it isn’t set in stone at the time of activation. If you activate Rowan and then shock yourself, your spells will cost 2 less in addition to the life lost at the time of activation. I built a Rowan deck and inadvertently discovered this. This may just be an arena glitch, but based on wording it shouldn’t be.

Hi @LegenVD , @53:07 16 rats would have been enough for a kill in 2 turns, with the informations you had at the time. I didnt get why you went down to 5 so I tried some math to see if you had a chance. So if you are interested to see that line: - 16 rats with 2 blockers, 1 rat dies, 14 damages go through, opponent is at 11. You are at 8. - opponent plays Kogla and kill Rowan (with the info you have). Stays on the block with 5 blockers. - shivan for a 1/1 haste, 15 rats, 5 blockers. It s 11 damages. Opponent is at 0. You win. So from 16 rats, a win is possible (maybe not probable if the opponent gets more blockers). Each additional rat is 2 more damages or mitigates the equivalent of 2 more blockers for the opponent. Feel free to share if you saw a better line. This deck is very satisfying to see you play with. A real optimization of Rowan :))) Thanks again for your brilliant ideas and execution! (The line about the Coldsteel on Red instead of Black was lost to me, thanks for sharing!)

One card that i think is awesome in this deck and you were not using is Tavern Swindler. Being able to gamble 3 life every turn when you have Rowan in play is too good. Sometimes you get luck and you pay 3 life and get back six which is amazing.

Unfortunately it's very hard to use it on arena. It only works with PAYING life, which actually not many good cards allow us to do that on arena. All the cards that Rowan uses aside from Bolas's Citadel makes you lose it instead of paying.

How do you decide how many cards go in each category? How do you decide how many categories there are? You seem to build decks so well, but I don't really see a pattern to how you build.

There's not always a hard rule, sometimes it comes down to personal preference but I also try to keep the curve of the deck in mind. Mostly trying to play the most efficient or synergistic cards in each slot. If there's a lot of them it can easily expand their respective category. In a deck like this we don't have infinite room for removal (despite there being many more great options available) since our commander needs the lifeloss support cards and payoffs to go with it. So once we find all the good lifeloss enablers and payoffs we like, I just round out the deck with some ramp, removal and protection effects.
