Yep, it can be, some sims say it is, others say it isn't, live testing I never noticed much of a difference, so yea, kinda hard to say. I then dug around in mage forums to figure out, it seems nowadays Fireball is better slightly, as long as you are able to fit in that Hot Streak(pyro), so I should've been clearer on that

Great guide. And I've just got into fire now luckily at the point where it's quicker to gear up now. I can imagine it being annoying earlier on, and I'm still having to work on my crit at the moment. There are other classes which are gear dependant too so it just comes with it I suppose and at the end of the day fire is still fun and if you persevere with it you reap the benefits and can visibly see that progression with DPS meters/ can get hyped when getting specific BIS loot.

Rune of power can be a hassle when you have a bracer proc during combustion but you gotta moove mid cast. Haste gains value with more crit and kindling in single target. Also most very geared mages tend to have 60 - 65% crit, so this part of the RNG isn't relevent, it feels smooth because you don't wait much for a pyroblast, howerver whilst it is true that you gain more bracers procs as you gain more crit and haste, it is also true that you can have 0 bracers procs despite having so much crit and do 0 DPS compared to any other spec. Your Single Target DPS is based on how much proc/minute you have with those bracers. That is also tur in cleave fights because bracers pyroblasts help building a tremendous ignite. You can also have procs but no crits (happens all the time outisde of combustion even with so much crit). But unfortunatly having 60 - 65% crit along with decent haste and mastery (+20% both) demends a tremendous Ilvl or a good arcano crystal.

P R E H E E T no.... it may sim higher in some cases but any fire mage will tell you it does nothing but ruin your rotation and waste dps by munching procs. It makes your rotation so awkward and clunky because of when it actually procs so it usually leads to you doing less dmg and cancelling spells

Hey Selwen. First of all, great guides, I've had much benefit from watching these! I do have an odd question, though. Since I struggle with keybindings and kind of leeched off of yours, I came up with a recurring problem. I never see any potions on your bar (Potion of Prolonged Power, for instance) that are usually used for openers in raids. Did you make a macro for this, or what is your secret? :O

I love when my instant pyro leaves me with heating up. So I can cast Phoenix before fire ball. By the time my fireball is done casting I can Chuck another pyro out with it.

In your opener, you say to use a rune of power charge in the 100-90 opening. I disagree. I use both rune of power charges during my combustion. It ends up being more dps and if you get multiple bracer procs inside combustion, you’re going to do insane damage while coming out with tons of fire blasts and phoenix flames

Pyromaniac becomes a more reliable choice as your crit goes up, in fact, it tends to give more than firestarter once you have reached the minimum crit threshold with T 21. Also flame patch is stronger on content with fewer and slower targets and is very bad on High Command IMO, since the adds always jump away from the patch of flame it might be better to stack a bigger ignite on the boss so the adds keep taking heavy damage ticks while they are not stacked on the boss, also you will have much more combustions if you spam pyroblasts over flamestrikes since flamestrike doesn't contribute to kindling, therefore your cleave will be better as you will have a higher average mastery and more bracers procs thourough the fight. Also the boss should be top priority as the adds arn't that dangerous and everyone cleaves them anyway.

I came to WoW recently after 8yrs of break and chose fire, cos it always would be my choice since 2004 (unfortunately there were times when meta forced you to play different :-D). I have to say i just love it now, as its like you said, very gear dependent, which means you can build your gear to make it work pretty nice. Thanks for the advice with the rotations, talents and stat weights as i was really just trying ad-hoc build something useful.

I've always been in love with fire mage. It's the only mage spec I have fun playing. The other specs seem boring to me. Even in pvp I find the fire mage utilities to be more fun.

I use pyromaniac because firestarter is somewhat useless. I start my rotation with precasting Pyroblast which guarantees heat up. By the time I am done with my rotation, the boss is nearly down to 90% anyways. The actual use for firestarter is extremely short, and if you’re capable of benefitting from pyromaniac with more pyros for free, it to me is a far better selection. My Crit rests at 67% without food/buffs, obtaining heat up isn’t really an issue for me. Why select firestarter when you’re really not going to use it. As for it making your rotation clunky, it just takes practice.

feist22 yes. You always want to hard cast a 300% pyro even in combustion and ESPECIALLY in rune of power. That’s why I use both charges of rune of power in my combustion. Not sure why he doesn’t

with new antorus 4 set u will need 60 % crit and at least 20% mast, 20 % haste, 5-10% vers. Afterwards depends on your personal preference : haste = single target, mast = aoe

On your opener with meteor/no bracers, you go immediately into combust. i assume you dont use firestarter here? if so isnt it a huge los because your fireball/blast has always crit until 90%?

Yep, but if you prefer Rune of Power, since the difference isn't that huge anyway, use in the same way, one time on the opener + Meteor, then another at 90% + Combustion. Then just keep using them with Meteor and/or Combustion.

Stat Weights change, crit is great until a certain point then, they will change, stat weights I give is a generalization, wrists for example values crit more, whatever stat weights you get, is what you need to follow :)

Well raidbots gives me so mutch mastery that my crit is reduced to about 35 % when i run wrist. Try to do simms without them. If you have firestarter and wrist you only cast fireball for about 55 % of the fight. And that is why crit is valued so low. Go bracers ring without firestarter and then youll see crit go up alot

Once you get 4 piece tier 21 crit becomes priority one. This is because combustion becomes very powerful and you get it more often through kindling with high crit.

pickercharm you want crit above all else with t21 and wrists. I run currently 64% crit and love it. Mastery is good but nowhere near as important as crit. I prefer crit then I keep my haste and mastery about 20-20% each. I’m also 973 Ilvl though.

Just came back after a long time away from WoW... this shit is broken as hell. WTF did they do to mages? They think everyone plays like Hansol or some shit and nerfed the living hell out of it? And why the hell are they making Haste a primary stat over mastery. I'd rather stack crit, mastery, vers, than haste. Who the hell uses haste as a firemage. You crit, and insta pyro all day. Fuck haste.
