Jerry always had SOUL...but when he played with Merl Saunders he got into that FUNKY SOUL, when he played with Melvin Seals he got into that GOSPEL SOUL. I saw an interview of Jerry and he said he was "Horney to play" . Man could Jerry play, sing and PUT A BAND TOGETHER!!! HIs music is as expressive as any art I have ever seen or heard or felt. What a blessing gto hear his music.

Great post. Absolutely correct about it being true art. Many of these live recordings are of a Van Gogh's level. They deserved to be taken that seriously. I know his music, free to all who look, has had a much bigger impact on real people & society in general. August '95 is a tragic day but to focus on it solves nothing. Anyway, just the ramblings of some with more love & compassion than money. Although, that ain't sayin much. ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

there are moments when garcia taps into some form of time that is not the one the rest of us use, With the dead.... "slipknot" got there often, and in the first bridge from the mystery train when he falls back into the low key "train..... train" after the lyrical rush and....... I am slack jawed.... I can almost hear his voice trip as he rejoins the time space we are in, All i know is something just happend and its great, beyond great but I don't have words for it. Thank you who ever recorded this.

This is some sweet merle and Jerry funk. I like these 75 legion of Mary shows and recordings much more than the few GD shows they did in 75. Would of been cool if Jerry just struck out on his own and keeping bill and Keith.

Awesome Band, Awesome Show, Most of all the sound quality is phenomenal. Whenever I listen to Jerry play with Merle,or Melvin I ask myself what the F... we're they thinking when they replaced Brent with Vince who was clueless when they had 2 fine keyboardist to choose from? The only reason I could think of is they believed Hornsby would remain a permanent member. Thank you for the Awesome Show it's definitely a keeper. Stay HEALTHY and Safe Everyone.PEACE

The main chunk of it is just going back and forth between A and D, happy jamming brother!

GD symbolism and imagery have a very Masonic feel to them...I think I read somewhere that Owsley had something to do with the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, but I don't know much about what that is other than I have seen them associated with Aliester Crowley... I do know that Owsley and the GD were big into Egyptology, hence the Pyramid show in 78. What kind of connections must one have to put on a show at that site??!!

+Jesse Greer There definitely is a Masonic connection, and much more. It goes back to Kesey, who was a Free mason, and his connections to Aldous Huxley. The bigger connection in my opinion is not that of Free Masonry, but that of the CIA and their MK-Ultra project. I could go on and on, but the short of the story is that the LSD / Hippie scene of the 60's, though quite colorful and fun, was nothing more than a CIA hoax, used for purposed of testing mind control in various forms, including music. Tim Leary, Robert Hunter, Ken Kesey, Aldous Huxley, and an extensive list of other familiar names are all CIA connected. That's a fact. How they managed to keep that info low is truly mysterious, but it worked, whatever they did. I think it has as much to do with denial by the fans, as anything else. One thing that is 100% undeniable is that John Barlow was the head campaign strategist for Dick Cheney in Wyoming, 1977. Documented fact, and it's even in his Wiki. Grateful Dead were a great band, but they were a total fraud when it comes to their scene. They were so not what they seemed to be, and never really were. I'll bet not a single member of the GD ever took LSD more than 20 times. Probably much less. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Phil Lesh never took LSD more than 5 or 6 times in his whole life.
