Judging from the 'Master of Mankind' - these are souls of those to whom Emperor actually chose and was able to extend equivalent of salvation instead of dropping to the warp.

I heavily lean towards the Legion of The Damned being an extension of the Emperor's will. It seems that the lore is leaning towards, "the Emperor wasn't a god, but he has become one." The chaos gods have their minions, both material and immaterial. Why would the Emperor not have the same?

Do not forget about the similar Sororitas phenomenon some say is also connected to the Emperor's divinity

Could they be the failed attempts by the emperor on the efforts to make the primarchs that he cast into the void seeking the emperor as mentally imprinted into their mind is the emperor and being subservient to him , but cast out to the void as they aren’t “perfect” like the primarchs

I'm a big Raven Guard fan and I usually like to listen to lore about the Mechanicum. That being said The Legion of the Damned are my absolute favorite 40K stories in the entire lore. The short story where the Space Marine is told he's dying and the one named member of the legion appears and says they're recruiting him if he'll make the choice might be my favorite story. I so much want Ferrus Manis to secretly be their Primarch in death regardless of who was their Primarchs in life. The Hell Gorgon just sounds cool and would make a lot of sense. I'm hoping 40K by way of Games Workshop doesn't shit the bed when they finally reveal the mystery. This Legion needs to be Space Marines so pissed off they refuse to die completely and have maybe the angriest and most brutal (outside of Angron of course) Primarch lead them. They can still be warp demons but it needs to be about revenge and slaughter. They can't just throw this one away like they have other pieces of lore. The question I have and other people have, is how many Primaris Marines have to die before the legion of the Damned start recruiting them? It wouldn't do much for them on the power side of things but it would make them even more intimidating spectres. This would especially work on Legions that have seen them before and fought them before. Have their vanguard be the big boys eventually and the enemy will shit and run.

Honestly, i hope they never do reveal the mystery. Its part of the appeal of them. They lose the whole "super natural, impossible apparition" vibe if you can explain them with certainty. Sure, the idea of answering the mystery is something everyone wants. As humans, we want answers. But the Legion is what it is because we DON'T know. Everything we know is speculation, nothing can be said with certainty except that they exist. I really think it would be best for the Legion if GW never touches their lore again, leaves it to our imagination, but maybe give us more models
@GaryBowen005 ай бұрын
@@raeishimura you make a very good point. The Lore can continue to develop for many years before any kind of reveal. A good compromise would be more stories that tell what the Legion is not. They can tell these stories without any reveal of their most valuable secrets. Maybe answer the question of the soul debt without giving away the secrets of their history and recruiting. You're right. It's not time yet.

weren't they mind wiped and absorbed by the other main legions like Ultramarines and Imperial Fist. I think this is why they were the largest legions pre heresy
@CountJeezy4 ай бұрын
@@covenant_05That's just an old theory without any evidence at this point. There have been enough clues in the HH books that they were wiped out. Also considering how stable Ultramarines are they would notice a different gene line. The Ultramarines were just that big because Guilleman already had 500 worlds. There is a cool moment where Malcador takes away the mental block from One of the Primarchs during the seige to show them the truth and they are like nevermind mind wipe again. There is a short story where Malcador slaps down Horus for pressing for information called The Last Council that is very good. They are called The Forgotten and The Purged which leads me to believe one was destroyed in the Rangdan Wars and the other was destroyed due to genetic defects. Just good guesses though.
@zerosen21414 ай бұрын
@@covenant_05 Most of them were. Common belief is that their Primarchs and a handful of command-level Astartes from the two legions were erased from reality, quite literally, by Malcador and the Emperor himself. Rogal Dorn has memories of their erasure, sealed deep in his mind by Malcador himself, and when he confronted the Sigilite about them, he was shown those memories once more and admitted himself that if the 2nd and 11th Legions were present during the Heresy, Terra would have fallen. Implying that both would have gone traitor possibly before even Horus
