well assuming they have same dmg then yeah the 3s one actually better since u need to survive for 21s to proc.. they can die at like the 20s mark and never use their skill

Is massing better than upgrading in this game? Or does DK not have an upgrade?

Depends on the wave and unit, usually. Massing can help as it avoids getting your units completely surrounded and can make the enemy units waste time trying to get into position. DK has an upgrade, he just casts his ability way slower than base (22sec vs 3sec) though it's way stronger.
