Short version: Consolidate audio, load it into sampler and automate the pitch bend. Great technique! Thanks!

While holding down the Alt key and right clicking an automation point, you can make an automation line curve. Hope that helped !

thanks for this! but I also found that when i'm doing this, I like to hit a C1 instead and then pitch down from +24 down to -24. that way you get a full 48 semitones for the pitch. thanks again!

awesome walkthrough, my man. i tried many different ways to achieve this effect before deciding to google it, and after watching this, it was a "duh!" moment! the way I had to do it though was bounce several different tracks to audio before getting this to work. I think a lot of people will get hung up on this extra step that undoubtedly many people will have to do. Also, this effect sounds fantastic in your track! thanks again!

damn. really good tutorial. I didn't know you could change up the sample in sampler and them simply re-drag it up to the audio. . .crazy!
@voicedrifter12 жыл бұрын
There are a couple ways to do this, but the easiest it just to render the track. Highlight a selection in the arrangement, and select it under the File menu. CTRL/CMD - R works too. Another option is to set up a new audio track, and in the track I/O section set your input to "Resample" which will record the output of the master track. This way is more convenient for on the fly recording for the purpose of adding effects in this manner.

@technogiapada it is likely that you are taking a warped clip and dropping it into the sampler. this will result in the sampler playing back the original unwarped clip at the original pitch. to solve this, simply consolidate your clip before putting it into the sampler. this can be done by selecting the clip, right clicking and choosing "Consolidate", or pressing cntr/cmd - J. this will write a new unwarped audio file with any changes you maybe by warping the first time around.

There's definitely something to be said for the warmth and unpredictability those devices added to music back in the day. I don't have an old reel-to-reel to play with which is why I come up with these techniques, but if I did I'd sure be cracking it out! Thanks for watching!

@IAMALABASTER sorry for the delayed response. unfortunately you can't make the pitch bend go further using simpler, but if you check kvr or something just find a free sampler vst that gives you a greater pitch bend. that or buy ableton's sampler, definitely worth it!

The reason I used audio imported into Live's Sampler was because doing it that way will get the effect of slowing down the audio while pitching it down as well. This is how a vinyl turntable would work. Doing it in midi with a synth plugin loaded up would continue to play your midi pattern at the same speed while bending the pitch down. These are two different effects and each have their different uses. It's up to you!

ableton does support automation curves just make a start and end point then hold down option on the automation line and a little curve will appear next to your cursor, then just drag to your liking

+Lyne Beats At the time of this video Ableton did not support curved automation. it's actually a recent update in 9.2, I think. I remember freaking the fuck out about it when I found out they were implementing it.

What's your soundcloud? Love this song
@voicedrifter11 жыл бұрын
Technically you could just set the sample to Repitch warp mode and you wouldn't even have to automate the transpose, just the tempo. The only issue is that you would drop the beat by changing the tempo, we want the sound effect but we don't want to screw up other rhythmic elements in the piece.
@Sugarsurge711 жыл бұрын
Nice. QUESTION: so if your looking to do the same effect on synth your working, do you just draw a pitch-bend on your initial MIDI file ? Or is it better to record in audio first ?
@thisisdandroid11 жыл бұрын
This is awesome dude but is there any way that I could do this WITHIN a full project instead of exporting a project to a .wav file and doing it without any control over all my other parameters?

Interesting point. So a midi note in the Sampler is actually an audio file playing. right ? thnx

@voicedrifter6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, this technique won't work in real-time. But it's 2018, we put a Tesla in space... I'm sure there's plugins that do this now.
@mintpaintome12 жыл бұрын
@mAssholio88 CMD+E actually saves the original. If he used CMD+E it would put the whole song in the sampler instead of only the one bar that he wanted to tapestop! :3

When I select the pitch bend range to be +24 the entire clip gets pitched down for some reason, even before I open the pitch bend in the envelope. Any ideas?
