I’m also loving the detail they are getting to pack in here. I know Lego has some strong thoughts on over complicating things and why Mocs end up looking better because they can do more complex builds that create more accurate angles. It’s looking like these are finally starting to look closer to the actual cars, so far, many speed champion sets fall short in proportions pretty heavily except for some of the newer ones. This is an exciting step!

If you see how little lego Star Wars seems to care about what the fans want and how little they know about the franchise, I'm so happy that speed champions has such passionate designers
@Peter_McNutt2 жыл бұрын
I said something similar after I built the Mighty Bowser. The other lego teams should really collaborate and take notes from Lego Nintendo and Speed Champions to learn a thing or two about a thing or two.
@JackAttaak2 жыл бұрын
Having worked with movie licenses myself, I assume the Star Wars license is a big part of that disconnect. They seem to be locking down a lot of the material that would normally be used for reference by set designers in order to reduce spoilers. And Disney might have an overall product strategy that dictates what Lego can release. All speculation or course, but I don't think it's as simple as some fans make it out to be.
@Montyh72 жыл бұрын
Utter rubbish, that sounds like another sweeping statement by a SW fan. If you watched the interviews, they seem to care a great deal. SW fans however are notoriously hard to please. I won't like what you like and then someone else wants something different. Someone will want a clone trooper, someone else a stormtrooper, someone else character from a current show, the size of the SW universe and the different opinions of the fans (I enjoyed Obi, loving Andor and Mando, but others hated Obi, think Andor is boring) make SW one of the hardest IP's to create for and honestly, I thought this year had excellent sets. So who do they please? You, me, someone else?
@DoorTechnicianRick2 жыл бұрын
@@Montyh7 Let me tell you some of the facts behind my statement 1) Wana talk about the interviews ? The creators called the republic gunship a ship from the original trilogy... 2) The new wave of clones is so terribly misprint and they don't even care about it 3) The AT-TE set has a dwarf spider droid, eventhough there was no dwarf spider droid at that battle. When asked why they didn't include a crab droid (which was in fact in the battle) they said "we didn't even think of that" really ?? 4) Also in said interview of the UCS republic gunship they said the clone captain was the gunship pilot... Really ? The gunship pilot ? A clone captain ? 5) The new helmet sets from Rex and Cody are nice, but why tf is Rex phase 2 but Cody phase 1... Make them the same phase ffs. Small things do make a big difference. I'm not saying everything is bad, we asked for Cody and we got him (after what seems 10 years ???) We got a 501st battle pack, Still waiting for phase 2 Rex tho... But speed champions creators are kilometers ahead of SW creators
@Montyh72 жыл бұрын
@@DoorTechnicianRick Nope, they said the original as in the first 6 movies, not the OT, but sure repeat incorrect information. 2, only a few people on the internet talk about the so called "misprint" because you know, their voice is the loudest - again to I like x and you like y - making my point for me 3. omg the dwarf spider, do you really care and if so, why? you can make a crab droid -which are not as cool with a few scraps of Lego - so yep again, you making a massive point against which most people, except the few loud voices don't care. 4 - wow, that means that the whole team of Lego SW don't care. (The launch of the gunship was bad, that cannot be denied, but it isn't a basis for saying a whole design team don't care). 5 I have no issues with the new helmets, in fact the only issue with the new helmets I have is that Ryan moans about them, and I have to skip through that part of his videos because I'm so bored with it. So basically nitpicking, and you are making my point - you care about different things to me - no SW fan will ever be happy and we show that again and again with every movie or show that comes out. Don't get me wrong, I don't love everything they design and they do make some odd choices (according to my persona opinion), but I cannot get behind the mantra that Lego SW designers don't care, that just seems like a sweeping statement made because of a couple of things that kept getting repeated and repeated. You are absolutely saying they are bad, you stated emphatically that the SW don't care -pretty sure you are saying they are bad. The small things you talk about about are exactly the type of thing that no SW fan can never agree upon - we just don't and never will.

If you look when the designer goes up close it’s because it’s a bracket or studs on the side brick piece that way they could have the 3 wide center strip. I would agree it looks to study too. Lego needs to make brackets with no studs on top.

Love this car and love the skyline, but I really don't know about the hood on this set. So many varied techniques are used to get the correct angles and heights of hoods, complete with brick-built details in sets like the Countach, Project One, Ferrari 512, and even the 70s Challenger. It feels a little weird for a set like this skyline to have a completely flat hood with exposed studs, when it would be very possible to have the hood at an angle and the studs covered.

Really appreciate this type of transparent interviews to insight on the design choices. However, my concerns still remains for stickers and windshields quality. The James Bond’s car stickers were just atrocious in terms for color matching; as well I’ve been recently noticing that windshields/transparent/glossy parts are more likely to come with huge scratches on them straight from brand new boxes…I don’t mind the some of the design compromises for these smaller scale sets but would be amazing if LEGO could also improve on these little inconveniences as well.

Surprised not to see the original movie one, but the reasoning for it not being used are good. Really like how this one turned out the, and the level of detail really pushes what the designers can do with the 8 wide scale. Though I know he was probably talking about the specialized rims my favorite aspect is how complete the profiling from the side of the car looks. Though the Countache, and Aston Martin were great from this year, the designers had serious difficulty finishing off the car past the door, as there was a very obvious gap between it and the fender. Looks great on this car, and hope it's properly remedied on future releases. Really excited to the release of this one as well as the reveal of the whole 23 wave.
