I'm not a fan of GWPs, but being a big Jules Verne fan myself, this one I had to have. Ended up buying the Notre Dame to get it - figured might as well keep the theme French. Absolutely love the JV Tribute, even though its such a small set, the subject matter and how it was executed is spot on and is one of my absolute favourite sets in my entire Lego collection placed proudly on top of my Jules Verne books. The only point I really must disagree with you on is, if Lego does indeed make a large scale Nautilus set, you won't be the first in line as that would be me 😉

I loved the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride at Disney too! Got to go on it during my first Disney World trip in 1988.

I’ve been a moderate Verne fan since seeing an exhibition with props from the 1954 movie a long time ago. I was looking forward to it since it was announced, and well worth paying full price for certain other sets I’m order to acquire it.

Great (biased, haha) review. I always come for the Lego news and I stay for the humour. Some truly superb puns in this one. "Loco Motive" is probably my favourite one, but it is the winner by a nose length in a strong field.

I remember watching a show on the Sci Fi Channel that was similar to 20k Leagues Under the Sea! Ok, so I guess the show was called "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" from Irwin Allen, who also did Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants. And now I REALLY want to watch all four of those again!!!

All that badgering finally paid off! And it was worth the wait if the wait was due to the procurement of that fabulous outfit. Super enjoyed the Thoreau reference as well. And hey, if the rumors of Ernest Shackleton's Endurance ship are true (FABulous book), I think there's a definite chance of a Lego Nautilus. I'd buy it. And the Endurance. And now I want the Charles Dickens tribute GWP as well. Right then, I'm off to convince the husband that the custom bookshelves I had built for the "fancy" room should not be just for books anymore. Wish me luck.

I forgot about that upcoming Endurance ship and I have SUCH high hopes for that set. Should be a really good size for the rumored price and has an exclusive GWP.

Great Review on the set, as I got this because I like the idea of the famous minifigure too. I'm surprised though, that Lego didn't make a theme of this, as it was a good idea and that Lego has basically made most of the sets in one shape or another throughout its history. The Sub for example, the many deep sea diver themes or Atlantis for 20,000 leagues. Mountain climbers rescue /rock raiders, for Journey to the centre of the Earth, Adventure series along with a train set for Around the world in 80 days, Even Journey to the Moon, Etc, so it is possible, plus I'd really like to see that minifigure model of the Disney Sub be made, as that would be a really good reason to get back to buying Lego. Other writers themes they could use, would be HG Wells, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelly, honestly the list is endless.

I did not know (although makes sense with even slight thought) that 20,000 leagues meant distance, not depth. An unusual phrasing though, to be sure.
@JoshBuildsStuff
@JoshBuildsStuff Ай бұрын
To be fair, the original title is "20,000 leagues under the seas," which makes more sense. They slightly mistranslated it in english and it became better known as "...under the sea" which is where a lot of the confusion comes from.

I'm so unhappy that this GWP was offered for so short a time. I'll have to go after market for it. I would so love a really cool large Nautilus kit. I'd be find if they went with an original design rather than the Disney one. There are plenty of model kits of original designs for the boat, so why not LEGO? I'd also be all over some HG Wells inspired sets. These stories are public domain and are open to interpretation, why not use them?

What do you think about GWP Moving Truck and GWP Vintage Hot Dog Van? I have built them both, and I love how they look! I feel that these two GWPs and yours (as well as future GWP called Reading, Reading, Reading) are all amazing, high quality, good-looking, neat sets.
@JoshBuildsStuff
@JoshBuildsStuff Ай бұрын
I agree both of those vehicles were super sold sets and would have probably sold well even if they weren't gwps. I am curious about that future Reading gwp and hopeful it might reference actual authors since LEGO's now done that a few times in the past.

Are you willing to share which audiobook narrators you like best for Jules Verne books? I have a few credits hanging around I need to use and thought I'd grab some Verne . . . but I didn't expect so many options. Does Tim Curry get the vibe? I dunno. Lol.
@JoshBuildsStuff
@JoshBuildsStuff Ай бұрын
My only strong preference is Peter Hussman reading 20,000 Leagues. Otherwise as long as it sounds like an old-timey man with decent pronunciation, I'm good. I think I have heard good things about Tim Curry's audiobook narrations, but haven't listened to any personally.
