'I could be slightly biased'. Lego reviewing understatement of the year :D As a non Zelda fan this set doesn't do nearly as much to me, but it is great to hear that the set is very pleasing to a dedicated fan. As a Lego set on it's own it looks pretty good. The minifigures are good quality and very recognisable, the tree looks very good and it has some details on the inside, as well as some nice hidden features in both versions. That said, I do think this set is a stinker. Not because it looks bad, but because of the insane pricing. I would say it is almost twice the price I would consider paying for it. If you compare this to other Lego sets of similar size and price range, the piece count is horrific, as is the number of minifigures. It even compares badly to already heavily overpriced Star wars sets. As an example: The Medieval Town Square set, which is a set that I would say is already pushing the limits of how expensive it is for it's parts, having a relatively low minifigure count, a noticable lack of animals and some severely unfinished rooftiles, has about 1700+ pieces more, twice as many minifigures and much, much more detail in the interiors and exteriors of the build, while costing 260 USD/Euro. (instead of 300) I know it is slightly unfair to compare an IP based set (especially from Nintendo) to a set from one of Lego's own themes, but that is where the 40 dollar price difference comes in. You can't tell me just using a Nintendo brand name and likeness is worth this much of a price increase, especially since based on the amounts of bricks and figures included and the intricacy of the build, it should probably be priced around 150 or even less. I'm going to give one more example and then I'm done obliterating the set for it's horrible pricepoint and focus on what they should have done instead. The Viking Village, a loved set by many, stemming from the Lego Ideas range is another example of a comparable set in terms of size, piece and minifigure count. It has 4 equally detailed minifigs, a ton of accessories, slightly less pieces at 2081 and a few very interesting build techniques. Like the Deku Tree, it only features a lot of new prints and no stickers. That set cost 140 USD / Euro. Now is it fair to compare one of the best sets in terms of value to one of the worst sets in terms of value? No. But it perfectly understates my point in that this set should not be this expensive. It would have helped immensely if they simply made a small wave of 2-3 Zelda themed sets instead of one big massive one. If needed they could have split the build into three, the Tower and a Link figure, the Sword shrine and another figure and the Deku Tree with lots of animals and plant parts and the last two minifigures. This would allow them to have a low priced set somewhere in the 15-25 dollar range, a medium priced set in the 35-45 range and a larger one somewhere around 100-125. Even just keeping this as is and adding a small set with Link in a low price range would be fine, so kids and young adults on a budget can get a version of that minifigure. It just doesn't make sense to start with something so absurdly expensive, especially since the set is already overpriced by much as it is. I would hate for Zelda Lego to be dead on arrival just because they made a good set with a massively inappropriate price and nothing else. Not to mention, this is going to get a lot worse over time, as the figures will cost hundreds of dollars in a few years, which will be even more if the set doesn't sell well. I used a ton of words to make my point, but luckily I type fast. I am very disappointed for the Zelda fans on a budget, but very happy that the set seems to be a massive hit in terms of how well it looks like the source material. I would rate it a 4/10 overall, but if completely disregarding the price I would probably rate it a 7,5/10. (as a non Zelda fan)

@calebjp8904Ай бұрын
The price is definitely high, but it absolutely makes a lot of sense for many reasons 1. The simple fact that it is a 2-in-1, allowing for more customization and longer use time 2. The surprisingly large amount of rare or even custom models, and the massive amount of custom prints 3. The partnership with Nintendo. They cannot release a licensed set with a company without raising the price as they would have to pay for the rights themselves There are a few ways they could have lowered the price, such as opting for stickers rather than custom prints, using existing models for pieces, and removing the 2-in-1 and choosing just one. The absence of these changes are all proof of the love, care, and effort they put into this set, which unfortunately, they, and as a result the consumer, has to pay for that care. The price is high, but it is in no way ‘horrendous’ considering how far above and beyond they went with it

My only gripe other than the price (which I think isn't that absurd considering how many unique minifigure pieces and prints were made for this) is that the Master Sword doesn't have the gold bits on it. I think that's an important detail that really completes the color scheme and it just looks a bit off without it. Triple molding would be ideal but I'd take a print if they could make it really good. The mold itself is excellent though, and the decision to make the blade semi translucent is pretty interesting. But yeah I think the Botw Deku Tree build is perfect, absolutely flawless. I kinda wish the Oot version had better continuity but I mean that's part of why I'll be choosing the Botw build anyways, and the Oot Deku Tree itself is also spot on, and it's dope that Links house is available with both options, that way the Oot Link figures have a place to go that makes sense!

I built the OoT version first before the BotW version. I feel largely the same about the two versions as you, preferring the BotW version. It just looks more impressive and was a more interesting build, and I wanted to finish on the set I'd be keeping whole. My only real complaint about the set is the foliage. You make SO MANY LEAVES and it gets a bit tedious, but it doesn't really take that long. I was genuinely surprised how many pieces were left over, which is a bonus (especially if you go with OoT since BotW uses more pieces). I hope they add the fairy print dishes to pick-a-brick so I can get a bunch of them. I hope they do what they did with Sonic after this, producing an Ideas/adult-aimed set and then following with a wave or two of smaller sets. There's a lot to work with from the Zelda franchise, from bosses to locations, and there's a lot of characters I'd like to have as minifigures. Gohma and other boses, various versions of beast-mode Ganon, a shrine entrance from BotW, the King of Red Lions, Skull Kid with Tatl and Tael, Wolf Link and Midna (maybe a Midna Brickhead), the Gate of Time from Skyward Sword, polybags of a bunch of basic enemies like octoroks... There's so much potential and I hope they capitalise on it. These would be automatic buys from me.

For that price tag you can buy 1 Lego Legend of Zelda set, or for the same price (less than the same actually) you can buy the last 4 mainline Zelda games released, plus all DLCs, plus a year's subscription to Nintendo Online which gives you access to another 6 mainline Zelda games. So a single Lego Zelda set or 10 Zelda games, all for the same price. The 2-in-1 aspect of the set should add very little value since you aren't actually getting both sets, you're getting one OR the other. If it was closer to $100 I'd be a bit more comfortable buying it, but the average Lego or Legend of Zelda would be foolish to buy it for anywhere near $300. Lego just doesn't make products for the average family any more, just big reviewers, high income families and superfans. I AM a huge fan of both Zelda and Lego, but I actually get disappointed every time Lego releases cool sets these days, because I know that I'll just never be able to enjoy any of them. At this rate I'm going to have to stop collecting Lego in the next few years, not because I am no longer a fan, but because it is no longer a sustainable hobby for someone with an average income, especially the sets that have the best quality.

"Go and order this set right now" - How about no? Overpriced as fuck and as other less biased reviews have shown the idea of two separate trees is half baked and inconvenient.
@frankfernandez2690Ай бұрын
Saw the notice took out my wallet, I don't care about the price tag, who knows if and when or what other sets they end up doing, so I'll assume it's a one and done and I'm not going to lose it. I bought mine and didn't think it twice. I don't actually have the extra money for it but don't care, I do hope they add more sets at a better price, give us zelda castle please, give us the Lynel please, give us clock town, faron spring, kakariko village, temple of time PLEASE!!!!!!

While I'm hearing a few isues on the price in the coments I was thinking some starwars collectors sets have bin $500 or more. Compared to those this set sounds reasonable despite the price.

For $300, you really ought to be able to build both trees without needing to take the other apart, lol

@@cr4sh1 ah apologies, I didn't realise you wanted the depth! Without the plinth attached it's 20 studs deep (that applies to the Ocarina version too) with the plinth it's 36 studs deep (I just counted for you 😁)

Looks amazing. However, i am not a fqn or happy with this set. I can not justify the price, so I'll never buy it, which is sad. If they released smaller normal retail sets alongside, then I'd be happy with this set. It's one of those things, I'm honestly confused. Like nintendo is supposed to be a family company and appeal to kids. My son, who is 4, has asking for a lego zelda set from before this set was announced. So, sure, this set is amazing for adults without kids or are just loaded with money. But for the vast majority of zelda fans; this set is not an option.

The only reason it even is 300 is because theres SO many custom moulds. The headpieces, the new sheild, the master sword, that beautiful ocarina... The fact that we have so many prints too. The shields, the slate, the koroks, the skulltula, the fairys, the house sign, and idk maybe im missing some. But I guarantee that if they didnt do all that, the set mightve been 280? 250? Maybe even as far as 210? But yes, this set is 100% worth it.

I find this set such a let down tbh. When it first got leaked I was very excited, and after waiting a whole year, we get something that costs way more than what its worth. Zeldas figure bothers me a lot too. Minus the eyebrows the face looks nothing like her, and why doesn't her torso have the usual female curves? Just doesn't look right without them.
