I’m not loving Architecture’s move to rarely released large scale sets compared to the smaller more consistently released sets. However, this looks very impressive.

This is absolutely tiny dimensions-wise for the price, same as other Architecture sets which are full of tiny pieces inflating the part count. That said, I do hope they make a Parthenon set in the future.

It looks great. I wish there had been some way to show that the foundations are stone walls, but I can't see how it could have been done better with a reasonable piece count. I usually buy architecture sets if I have been there. I haven't been to Japan, and I think I will skip this one, but not because I think it's bad in any way.

Sadly In Mexico all sets over $50 usually get another $50 or more slapped on for some reason, this will be $233 and honestly I can’t see paying that much for it 😢 Same with most lines, the ninjago city markets which are $369 in other countries are $531 here, I wish more people discussed this cause it’s a big issue, it has almost killed my Lego hobby, I was super exited for both the himeji castle and markets but I can’t justify paying an extra $235 when the base price is already quite high.

More Japanese architectural sets would be lovely. Perhaps a Cityscape one for Kyoto. My one critique is there should have been a swap for the trees for spring for all the trees, not just the two at the front.

Here in Poland you could already buy one pre-sale from 3rd party sellers for 540 zł (around 133 USD) which is a fine price, but on the official Lego site the price was 750 zł (185 USD). Lego is putting some hefty price tag on products from their website

As quite the Japanophile (just returned from my 17th trip last month....), I'm very happy they finally do a proper Japanese Architecture set! The Tokyo Skyline was okayish, but this is on another level. Not perfect and indeed too expensive, but once I see it with a 25-30% discount it will be mine! The one thing I like least about it? I would have preferred Matsumoto-jo over Himeji-jo. But that's something Lego can still solve in the upcoming years 🙂
@maweitao Жыл бұрын
It looks like a very nice rendition and is practically sized. It could be improved by filling the grounds with more trees, but that would just add to the cost of an already expensive set. Still, maybe I'll pick this up when I find it on sale.
@AHYL88 Жыл бұрын
Architecture sets have typically never been that great value for how tiny the finished model is and this Himeji Castle is basically business as usual. Trouble is, at this really high price point now for the theme, is this really worthwhile over so many other sets that are also nice looking, but a lot larger for the same cost or even less? This Himeji Castle set costs the same as the Monkie Kid - City of Lanterns set in the US, and the former set is actually 18% more than the latter set in the UK.

Looks alright.... got myself the Himeji Castle from Mould King last year. Over 3000 parts for about 120€. 39x39x40cm but the overhanging tree and architecture parts make it 50x50 wide. Usable size even or especially for playing with minifigures.

I’m also saying that - Imperial hotel set (21017) was selling for 120 Eur (cca 1100 pcs) 10 years ago (so add 25% inflation) while this one goes for 160 (2000 pcs). I find the price very reasonable, especially considering that these architecture sets all hold their value, even worst or least popular ones of them.

The castle is surrounded by the moat. The LEGO bit corresponds to some 70 m deep of the actual thing (vs 590ish of the whole complex) and some 90m wide (vs 500ish). Probably half the height of the whole thing (From the outer moat level). Nothing better to be done at this price point with the source material.

I'm disappointed that they couldn't represent the roof tile statue-like structures that line the corners and areas near where the boomerangs are irl. I'd rather instead of the courtyard they'd do a bigger castle with more detail on the roofing since that's the most attractive part of the castle imo.

This set is way over-priced. The architecture sets are small and over-priced and I never understood that. The White House was ridiculously expensive. Again, as JANG said, this is really well done though. A good choice for a Japanese castle.

There isn't really anything inside the actual castle. It's original, but just empty halls with a path to walk up into the main keep and back down again. It's a pretty castle but I'm not sure I want it even after having visited.

im still a price-per-part kinda gal, and even though im fully aware it’s mostly small parts, hitting the 10c/per part in canadian dollars is more or less enough to appease me in terms of value. it’s a very nice looking set and definitely appeals to my sensibilities, even if it doesn’t appeal to the space in my house or the money in my wallet.

It's crazy how you mentioned throne. Eastern part of the world sits on the floor traditionally...(also why Japanese don't wear shoes inside temples/castles)
@JANGBRiCKS Жыл бұрын
A Google Images search for "Japanese castle throne" would show that it's not "crazy" in any way, shape, or form, with interior reconstructions at palaces from before and after the current form of the Himeji keep demonstrating clear throne structures. They may not have used giant gothic or Victorian chairs, but they very much had thrones, upvoting your own comment or not.
