The vehicles in the current City police wave have been really good. I got this set, really like all the components but yes, kinda overpriced. The chopper is big but needs to be better playwise.

I’m wondering how much in dollar amount parents spend on LEGO for their kids, it seems like $500-$1000 would be required for any decent amount of sets for play! I always appreciate your reviews! As adults we are most of the time disappointed with LEGO sets?! My coworker told me that her 8+ year old daughter doesn’t always build the set out of the box, she just creates her own design using her imagination. When I was her age the LEGO sets had smaller vehicles and two big road plates that at the time was awesome, but my parents said they were too expensive back then. Could you please do a few quick videos where you price compare the LEGOLAND sets from the 1980s to today’s City sets (With price adjustment for inflation)? I understand this may be more of a collector series of videos but that might be informative for parents and adults today.

My parents brought Lego Fabuland for us as kids. They always brought it duty free and the prices of Lego in NZ in the 80s would of been huge. They were generous as we got 2 large playsets ( a car repair garage and a house), plus around 8 small sets ( two animal mini figures plus accessories). I suspect my parents did shell out in those days a lot of money on Lego. We also had a bit of spare blocks and free play pieces to add to it. Comparing what the sets today are, you certainly get a lot more stuff and accessories than a 80s Lego set had, which more play features and actions.

As cool as helicopters are, kinda tired of them putting helicopters in every single City set. Why not just have separate sets with a police/medic/fireman/whatever helicopter and use that leftover budget to improve the main builds?

At least this is an actual substantial helicopter that doesn't look too goofy, rather than the completely pointless tiny helicopters they feel the need to cram into every set.

I love the play features here. The chopper is great. Jang's explanation on a chopper door being in the way is valid I can't really argue with that. 25 dollars for each big item in the set seems to be what we are paying here. I am very conservative in valuing lego prices and... It seems close to fair. On sale you'll see it for around 80 which is hopefully the most I would have to pay for this. I'd love it at 70 or less! Jang, you are peerless in your explanation of Lego prices and Lego price history. It does break my heart to think Lego is becoming less accessible to low income children. I was one of those children and that is why I am always conservative in assessing Lego value. I really hope Lego doesn't jump into the category of being too unrealistic of a price proposition for most of their fans. Honestly I don't see that happening because of Lego's image.

Creator townhouse pet shop cafe had a nice bank alternate build with bank tellers. This bank looks fine too but all the vehicles make City bank sets often way more pricey if you mainly just want a bank, crook hideout, museum or some other structure, but I understand this is City with still high focus on vehicles.

Would have immediately bought that bank if it was sold by itself, or with some minor side builds. It would probably take a 50% or more discount for me to bite on this one, even then offloading the vehicles to claw some money back. At this price point, the bank should definitely include a staff member.

After getting back into your videos over the last few months i really like how you discuss "playability" and that is definitely a plus with this set. I think that amount of stuff you get for the price is not right, but the play value is amazing. I would have had so much fun with this as a kid. Heck I would still have fun with it now.

I find it silly that people complain about named characters. Lego has always had named characters as a child i wasnt even aware of that, i just played with them all because i made up my own stories instead of following the “rules”

I very much enjoy this set. I’d personally like to see this at $90 but in today’s wonderful economy I can’t complain too much. The bank looks great, the trucks look great (especially the criminal truck) and the helicopter is…okay. The helicopter is definitely the weakest part in the set. This is one of the only good looking buildings that are attached to the new road plates.

I've only had one transparent piece that's been completely unacceptably scratched on arrival and that was the large window panels in the Diagonal Alley set with the green square pane printing. Lego quickly provided a replacement which was appreciated. I probably wouldn't normally complain about these things as once my son gets his hands on them they will get scratched anyway, but this is a display set and a very expensive one at that, so yeah.

The problem with city now, is that the vehicles keep getting bigger, while the buildings keep getting smaller, so the contrast between the two is becoming both incredibly comical, but more worryingly, highly unrealistic in scale - even within a single set. A copter with a cabin footprint almost equal to the size of a bank? I just want to laugh.

I wish this set would give you more bank for your buck.

It would be interesting to see a comparison between this set and the last 100 dollar set, town square or what it was called, the one with the pizzeria, dojo and car wash. This seems much smaller, but the vehicles are a lot more advanced... so I'm unsure. With the current euro price, I would say here in europe it should be at least 10 euroes cheaper.

This set is my favorite of the Q1 2022 City Sets i think. I dont care so much about the helicopter, but the swat truck is awesome, the crooks van looks also really good and i like the bank aswell.

Helicopter looks not only unnecessary, but poorly finished as well. The absence of navigation lights in a Lego aircraft seems like a sloppy design choice.

I have to say that I don't really like where did Lego go with City Police after 2020. It all seem very cartoonish and just bright, boxy, play features based. It's childish, which I know is the point of this line - to sell it to kids that want to play cops and crooks with Lego but for me, after what they presented with 2017 wave I really dislike what's came after 2019(which was still good). I personally loved 2017 wave and for me they could've just kept adding more to it year after year(of course could never happen[even though this is what's happening with Lego police after 2020 now] ) because those sets were still pretty simple but looked good, mature, real, sturdy and had great collective value for building a police force. After 2020 it became a jump for kids attention with bright color, simple builds and mechanics. I hope Lego at least made reasearch that led them to assume it's going to be better for business this way and not just thought it's the next step if evolution because let me tell you now police cars just loose details. I hope one day they will start making more complex and realistc designs again

i realy dont like the bank and the volume of the bank itself.. and thats what i see in all latest similar sets, the buildings are cubic shaped silhuettes in the corner. Also the city bank tile has to be outside next to the door... PS: the clock print is not in the center of the tile and bothering more than it should xD all in all i think in denmark cant be any banks or at least the designer never has seen one in person but i see the play value for children and thats the most important point

I know you probably don't like seeing the debate about price in every comments section, but i think part of the problem is, no one else makes anything like this. Yes, there are other toys if you want to make a small town for small people, but nothing like lego. you can't take buildings apart and put them back together anyway you want. you can't take a police truck and customize it, or blow it up to be part of the story. There's nothing that gives you the same satisfaction of building a town from the ground up and being able to customize it infinitely. So while i do hate how expensive lego is these days, it's hard to argue with it when they're giving people an experience exclusive to their product. P.S. great review as always!

This is the great Lego hypocrisy; they continue to state Lego City etc are designed for kids, so they keep the sets basic. Then they go and attach a $100 price tag on the item which puts it out of reach for many children. So who is buying the city sets to keep Lego in business; adults, which coming full circle, Lego doesn't want to listen to because they "design City sets for kids". I rarely buy City sets these days which is a shame because there is some great potential in them.

That police truck is weird to me. It looks like a bullion truck, and I don't understand why it isn't one. Maybe they changed the colour scheme, etc at the last minute to turn the set as a whole into a "cops and robbers" playset?

The crooks’ trucks is nice with that hidden feature. The police one, I don’t know… It’s OK but as Jang suggested, as a swat truck with appropriate minifig, it would have worked better. That helicopter is too big and the bank is a tad small but has good play feature to redeemed that.

Just got the set with a hefty discount for 58 euros. But 1 thing really bugs me. Why does this set come with 1 and a half road plate? When the set itself is 2 road plates wide. Meaning to get that bike lane connected to the shopping street or the school set I need to get additional parts. Just to make it work and shift the grey tiles and get some different ones. It is annoying.

These 2022 sets are both good and bad. They are good cause when they build something it looks great but its bad cause in builds like these they focus more on roads then on acual build

Okay, the Bright Yellow being placed right next to the normal yellow looks so wrong-- I like that it's a new color for the inventory, but those colors look so bad in close proximity that it honestly looks like a bootleg brick set you'd get from Five Below. The chairs in the police vehicles should really have been a different color--
