Love the idea you have for the station. Because the base is bigger than a regular lego train it sort of looks like the ghost train is floating and the sounds do remind you of screaming brakes and ghosts. Maybe there was an accident at that station and the train was destroyed and the driver and the passengers died, so they're still in the station haunting the place.

Hey Robin, cool idea to use the duplo train base and it’s color sensor to do the back and forth. The same should be possible now with powered up but would be an unspeakable salad of cables and the bulky command module. So yes, very smart and I am looking forward to seeing it in action. Btw you could use duplo blocks instead of cans as pillars, they are extremely sturdy and they are LEGO’s
@RobinHoodBricks4 жыл бұрын

Looking good! I love the Duplo train functions and wish that Lego would release a similar train motor with built in speaker and colour sensor for normal Lego System. However, having such short track, I think the screeching sound will drive you mad over time! Suggestion: Extend the track in both ends so that the Duplo train leaves and enters the station area (through a tunnel like the old substation train) and then "behind the scenes" you can add some curved Duplo train tracks and even use your extra Duplo straight train tracks to let the train go somewhat further on each side before it goes back. It will, however, mean that the screeching sound will come from somewhere underneath the table outside the substation area, but that would just be another mysterious feature! And it will also mean that you can hide away the green tiles - and add the horn effect and the watering stop effect if you like!
@RobinHoodBricks4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I really wish LEGO System had a train base like this without having to use an app. So simple and so good. I like the idea of a longer track BUT I don't want to lose the train where I can't get it very easily under the tables, AND (spoiler) it's gonna be quite big with ghost features hanging off it so it won't fit down a standard tunnel very well!
@Smale3214 жыл бұрын
Can't argue with that one!
@Smale3214 жыл бұрын
@@RobinHoodBricks If you need the tunnel entrances to be bigger for the Haunted Train, perhaps you can create broken ones with pieces ripped from the sides, perhaps some collapsed pieces even. Make sure to build some sort of barrier or wall on both ends of the track, behind the green switches. That way you can make sure that, if for some reason the sensor misses the switch, the train still stops within your reach.

Some tape over the speaker holes may hush the train up a bit. Also if you find you don’t have enough room you could always try hanging another level under the table and poking it out a bit more into the standing hole so it’s a multi-levelled station

You've done it again Robin!! I love the concept. Very interesting solution to your problem. Way to think outside the box. In regards to the noise two suggestions. One, make the duplo train track a decent length as to not trigger the sound so often and give the illusion it can go somewhere else. Perhaps even put a "water" stop in the tunnel at one end to halt it for a moment. Two, take it apart and either dampen the speaker or disconnect it all together. It's all good fun at first but I can see that getting annoying quick. Got to thinking about the airport tower and how the bottom of the lose bits don't line up. A 1x plate might allow a slight angle for a connection.

And this my friend is why this channel is so fantastic: Duplo is so out-of-the-box and different then all others would do! Plus it gives so much more variety then "another" usual train. I know this Duplo-train system of playing it together with my daughter, it's quite a lot of fun; good to know you can actually fabricate your own colored bricks!!! Small concern I have is that for our case it occasionally does not respond accordingly to the underlying bricks, for example it stops at the green bricks instead of turning around. Hopefully for you that's just an issue with my train.
@RobinHoodBricks4 жыл бұрын
Haha, yessss. This is what I like to do. Not buy a new set that anyone with some money can get, but MAKE something no one else has. That's wat LEGO is for, right? The off chance of it missing an instruction is why I'm not letting it out of the station in case it goes crazy between the tables!

Great start to the Subway Halloween build. I also saw your comment on Bricktsar's video too. It does make me turn off some vids if they go on about superchats and stuff. Also I sometimes don't get why they have to tell you about certain Lego elements that are cheap as chips on Lego and then say they bought hundreds and hundreds of them. Then when they come to use them in a build they look awful. ( Bevens Bricks bought gold shield/round element.) He will never use them all in a million years. Just my personal opinion. Happy building Robin.

Thanks so much. I think I'll just focus on the LEGO and not worry about income. Nice to hear Jabbo having the exact same issue. Another reason for not buying specific pieces ahead of needing them is that it typecasts what you're going to use. What will use a thousand gold dish pieces? Hmmm!

How did you come up with the idea of looking into duplo trains? It would be pretty useful if they had the same train piece in Lego size! If the construction workers are the protagonists, who are the antagonists? Will the Scooby doo crew be featured in this subway?
@RobinHoodBricks4 жыл бұрын
I was talking to someone about them and how they are waaaaay better than Powered Up even, especially for the price. Err, I guess the guys helping me build today will become part of the antagonists. Protagonist-wise I'm thinking the Hidden Side goodies or the Ghostbusters, yellowed up of course. I have no Scooby Doo goodies!

My daughters have it so you Just gave me a fantastic excuse to keep it when they are to old 😉 I'm curious to see how you are going to turn it intro a ghost train!!! Robin, have you tried using the 16-long single rail pieces (Bricklink part 3228c) to see if you can brick build a track that is similar in aesthetic to the current Lego RC track, but of correct width to accept the Duplo train? Since your intent is to only go straight, having a slightly lower rail profile shouldn't matter. I think it would look better than using those panel pieces. Alternatively, what is the radius of Duplo curves?? Will a circle of Duplo track fit INSIDE a circle of RC track? If so, you could have a tiny loop, with the haunted train running in the opposite direction of the current train. Using the Duplo as point to point is a great idea. As far as the annoying sounds, placing a piece of cellophane tape over the speaker opening might lower the volume considerably. Try it!
@RobinHoodBricks4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for those ideas. I have single rails but they aren't broad enough for the thick wheels and, even if they were, the spacing is totally off, even with a different number of studs between them. It couldn't be more different, haha. I don't think I want a loop in there either!

The duplo engine is 10/10 tinking outside the box. Will you use the small gaps between the tables on each end to fit some 3d subway entrances on street level?
@RobinHoodBricks4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if the entrances will be 3D or just have the flat illusion of darker tiles. I hope the former. It depends where they go!
@OrangeNavyandWhite4 жыл бұрын
Love the creative plan! Great functions! Could you not have the Duplo motor unit towing and Lego subway train back and forward with the Duplo out of sight under the tables and just the actual Lego train visible in the station? This way you don't need to build the bulking Duplo into the Lego subway train.

300+ comments, lot of opinions out there. Sure someone has already mentioned this, but with the new power up system, their is a light sensor you can connect right to the battery box and will work similar to your Duplo engine. If you extend your tracks slightly, you could add a second color to stop and hold the engine out of site for a bit, make it look like its traveling on the line instead of just going back and forth.

I don't want to have to use an app every time I want this to move. That's why I'm using the Push & Go. Also it's way cheaper!
@SomeAssemReq4 жыл бұрын
You can buy the color sensor separately and plug it into the new battery box. Only thing is then you'd have to add the programming in the app yourself, which you mentioned you'd rather not do. Something to look into!
