Күн бұрын

After showing off my long Cargo train I thought I'd add more carriages to my High-Speed Passenger Train (set 60051) including two MOCs. The first MOC is a first class observation car inspired by the Metroliner Club Car (set 4547) and the second is a Mail Car inspired by the Postal Container Wagon (set 7819) from 1983. Both MOCs take care to continue the unbroken red stripe and aerodynamic shape that characterises this awesome fast train!

After having looked at various double decker cars in this style, I have to say that this is by far the cleanest execution of it I've seen. And the yellow one, too. They look like they came with their respective sets. Well done, sir!

The club car is absolutely cracking! I would only make a single change in the entire design: at 10:15 when you add the lower level windows they are two bricks high, but I would probably build that section with the windows that are three bricks high, eliminating the row of grooved bricks that run through the center horizontally. If I can stock up enough of those windows and locate a dark grey chassis I might have to add this car to my train!
@RobinHoodBricks
@RobinHoodBricks 4 жыл бұрын
Three tall panels would reveal the bottom of the upper deck. Although not an issue in itself, I also had the 2 high windows already from the original cars!

Just brilliant on how you continued the stripes on both cars and how you designed the roof of the club car. I also loved the metroliner set and the club car. Hi Robin - very excellent moc-up's for both those cars! The club car in particular is really cool. Back in my original lego heyday I had the Metroliner, with that club car, and thought it was so great! Iit's really awesome to see how you built both that, and the mail car, into a practically seamless expansion of that passenger train set. I don't have trains right now myself (hoping someday if I can get a bigger space!) and between what I've seen you do, and what Jang's done, trains seem like an integral part of a true Lego city! I am very curious to see your expected main train station build as well!

Yes, trains are a requirement really, although they take a lot of space which is why I don't have loads of sidings like Jang. The Metroliner was very special. Pity if you don't still have it somewhere. My station won't be too long now. It'll be a mashup of loads of old stations with modern twists!

I wish I did. When I hit my "dark age" back in 2000 or so (when I went to college) I basically abandoned everything I had and it ended up getting progressively lost or gotten rid of through a couple moves. So this past year when I got back into it, I started from scratch.

Very, very nice sir Robin. The new double decker car and baggage cars look awesome. I think you should double the baggage car and put a tiny crew area above it maybe. Also are you going to make a mole people for the under the table? After an apocalyptic nuclear war people moved under ground and made junk cites. After a few thousand years other mole people decided it was safe to build again above ground. Mole people, yup we want mole people lol
@RobinHoodBricks

Double the baggage car vertically? I'm sure that wouldn't fit under any of my obstacles and bridges. The observation car only just does. As for underground, I've already got Rock Monsters and Cavemen in the city and I also have the figures for Cyclops people and Scurriers so if probably add them next. Same kinda vibe though!

HiHo Robin Fabulous! Oh how I wish I had the space for a city let alone a rail layout! I totally love the club car. It reminds me of those carriages you see on trains running through the Rocky Mountains in North America, brilliant! I’m not sure why double-decker trains have never been considered for British railways. Maybe our tunnels weren’t designed for them? I’ve been on them in Germany. It’s quite the thrill to go upstairs! I spent a number of years working for Royal Mail in their public affairs team as a manager. One of my roles included briefing opinion formers, MPs etc., about the benefits of the Travelling Post Offices we operated. Then later, our new £300 million pound rail network. This meant organising the official openings of new dedicated sorting offices along various rail networks up and down the U.K. we heavily invested in a network of new trains based on the Networker model. Eventually, due to the very unreliable rail freight service operated by EWS, Royal Mail abandoned both the TPO network and the new bulk letter carrying mail trains. I no longer work for Royal Mail, but I believe that only a very small percentage of U.K. mail is still transported by rail. And the mail which is, tends to be carried on scheduled passenger services in dedicated holding areas. Great MOCs Sir. Well done! 👍👍

If you add a 1 by 2 plate in the middle right beneath the top door rail on the mail van, the sliding doors can't slide unintendedly any more - although you can still open and close them as intended. Great work elsewise!

My suggestion is move the sliding doors on the mail van up one full brick so they line up more to "platform" level rather then "ground level" and possibly adding a flat plate in the middle of the top runners to stop them sliding around so much in transit. Aside from that it looks quite good.
@RobinHoodBricks
@RobinHoodBricks 5 жыл бұрын
I've done the plate change already, thanks. The brick height change is a very interesting idea making it more similar to the club car. Hmmmm. The only problem I can see is that there'd be a step down behind the lip of the door then, but that could be fixed. Thanks, I'll try it!
@absentjake123
@absentjake123 5 жыл бұрын
@@RobinHoodBricks im more thinking of taking the brick above the door and putting it below so the roof height stays the same. And if you look at the rest of the cars anyway it does appear that between floor height and window height there is only one brick and a plate whilst on the club car its 2 bricks and a plate for the lower windows. Or maybe leave the doors where they are and make a second level over the top so it looks like the club car, just that the bottom level is for mail. I feel like that would also fit in quite well and make the set look more symmetrical roofline wise.
@RobinHoodBricks
@RobinHoodBricks 5 жыл бұрын
@@absentjake123 I did understand what you meant about the brick above the door going below. I'll try it. What I mean is that then, when the doors are open, the base will be one brick lower than the door edge, unless I fill in the whole bottom area with dark grey bricks. This is still fine!
