Looking at the alternate builds too, I could see a kid buying 3 of these and building all 3 or making their own build, this set is awesome for $13 in todays time.

This was the first lego set i ever saved up my pocket money for. My dad took me down to Toys R Us on a saturday morning right on 9am when they opened. I handed over $10 (Aus) in change from my velcro wallet, took it home and put it together while saturday morning cartoons were playing on the tv. Took that thing out into the backyard and rolled it around on the grass until it started to get to dark. Just seeing the screengrab of that set took me back. Good memories

Two classic set reviews in a row, I feel indulged. I had a couple of these particular vehicles gifted from family. In fact looking back I was spoilt with this theme, including having the big Interstellar Starfighter for Christmas in 97. UFO really appealed to me as it tapped into my love of sci fi tv in the 90s, particularly The X-Files. Thank you for bringing the memories back!

This is an instant hit of nostalgia and a great set (and theme), but Jang, this is from 1997. I remember the year very well, cause 5 year old me was looking through the 1997 catalog religiously :) Hoping to see more from the UFO theme!

Yes! More Space! So many of these old 90s space sets don't have real, good quality reviews anywhere online. I know that I will probably never get most of these sets, so it warms my heart to at least have a good look at all their features from a professional reviewer.

I recently discovered this theme through BrickLink and was surprised at how it looked. Very different to classic space, which was what I was looking for, but also plenty of shared DNA as we see here. Love the optional build on the left, that looks awesome!

Love this review of a vintage set. The UFO sets were pretty cool. I never actually got any for unknown reasons. May have been after I was buying LEGO sets less actively. But they had cool designs and it was pretty epic that LEGO finally introduced aliens into LEGO Space!

Had to do a double take. This was my very first Lego set when I was 8. I vividly remember putting it together on the floor of my Great Grandmother’s bedroom. If they included the instructions for those alternate builds I might’ve fallen in love with Lego. That didn’t happen until I was well in my 30s.

That alternative build rover looks even better than the og build. I got my hands once on that big car with that huge neon green canopy of this line, but overall it was a line after my Lego youth. Got a lot of classic space Lego back then. Yes ?I am talking about the 70's stuff when you had to place stickers on the chests of the astronauts, because the torso's didnt have prints yet. Miss those days.

Correct me people if I'm wrong, but I think that these figures were some of the first minifigures to get leg printing on them. I have this set from back in the day - and I still think it's iconic. I just love those robotic faces on both this figure, and the red variety as well.

The Fact that they gave random minifigs like this one SO MUCH detail and put so much quality and effort in it, but can’t do it for some top premium figures that are supposed to have the same care and quality today is just mind blowing to me. Instead of upgrading or improving, they’re degrading in some ways (in terms of quality and consistency). Hate to say it …

Even when this a bit to modern to have the nostalgia factor for me, stil a cool little set! And I especially like those alternate builds. I'll never understand why they stopped showing those on the box and instructions, it's the cheapest way to add value to a set, and it encourages kids to build something beyond the instructions.

One thing these older sets did better than current sets, in my opinion at least, is letting you figure things out yourself. Sets showed alternate builds but didn't include instructions for them. You want to build that? Figure it out yourself! I think that way Lego helped with creativity because by figuring out the alternate builds, you had to think with the parts. These days they either don't show alternate builds or when they do, provide instructions. (Of course, Lego has become so much more complex that you kind of need those instructions.)
