This design is simply brilliant in its simplicity! Too bad, it wasn't used in the latest LEGO Technic Liebherr R 9800 excavator. Basing force transition to the arm, and its movement on pneumatics, rather, than electronics would introduce immense realism to the set, in which all the rubber tubes, and plastic pipes are actually purely decorative.

The way i see it, this would be perfect for switching the selector rings. I mean a single compressor/valve unit could switch a few selectors. After seeing this idea i have decided to rebuild my Combat Engineering Vehicle Mk IV with pneumatic selectors in the transmission instead of the complicated mechanical system that i have been struggling with for weeks. This little compressor/valve unit is way smaller than any similar mechanical system i could come up with and doesn't have to be mechanically linked to the transmission, greatly simplifying the construction process. The only problem is now that i don't have any of the new pneumatic valves, but I guess it's not THAT difficult to get one from Bricklink

How many auto valves do you use before you decide to use a common pump? My current moc has three auto valves but it takes a lot of room so I have contemplated changing it to just one pump. I will say that separate auto valves gives you more precise movements. This is the smallest auto valve I have seen. Nice work as usual.

@SmashingBricksAU 4 жыл бұрын
hmmm, nice compact design. How fast do you think the clutch gears will wear out given the constant wear? Using one of these little builds per pneumatic ram(cylinder) could actually be used to overcome position control issues (especially with Lego). The major issue with any pneumatic rams is the lack of position control (unlike hydraulic control). Fully open or fully closed it the majority of case that do not use sophisticated position monitoring . Thanks Serial.
