This took me ages to film, as all first episodes do, and doesn't look fantastic. There are still a lot of bits I'm very happy with, especially the opening shots and the final few scenes, including the Doctor's speech. The black-and-white bits were something of a last minute addition, as I'd shot the scene with just a change in the lighting to indicate the shift in tone, but then realised in editing that it actually looked horrendous; and so I went through that scene masking the characters out and thus giving myself brain damage. Each of the brief glimpses of past Doctors I built sets and set up lighting for as I would a full scene, which was actually more fun than shooting the episode itself.
And of course, the whole thing was coming off of shooting And Then There Were None, so perhaps as a result of that, it feels very Agatha Christie-inspired. Go watch ATTWN if you haven't already: • LEGO Agatha Christie's...
