I can't find it right now, but someone poked around in Lego Fortnite's materials and found that in there the Lego studs are actually done with a shader effect, not nanite geometry. I'd bet that this is doing something similar.

I'm glad they bought up the visuals, I think it looks great. Lego games in general are usually fun, and as a fan of the Horizon games I'm excited to play.

I need to actually finish Forbidden West. I have a bad habit of picking up games on sale I don't have time for.

Either plan it when you think you have time and feel like it ("I have nothing that weekend, so I'll play it then."), or jump on it when you feel like it ("I have nothing I have to do right now, so I'll finally play it right now."). - I have noticed of myself that I need to have a kind of discipline for it, cause life... But also, I made it a habit to only purchase games when I actually want to play them like now or very soon. Otherwise, it's not going anywhere (if it's not a live-service from like Ubisoft) and just don't buy it. - I say that as I keep buying bundles of which I don't even remember what is in them. XD - But I've definitely given up on buying individual games on sale just because they're discounted.

As for the engine, this is not based on the way it looks, but considering the previous IP-based LEGO-game (the Fortnite one) was made on Unreal, this might be as well. Though, that one was made by Epic themselves, so it makes sense they used Unreal. - That said, I just saw that Traveller's Tales would also be moving to UE after the engine they used for "The Skywalker Saga" was problematic. - I just don't know if Guerrilla, who still seem to be a big part of development (although I don't know in what kind of role) would also simply use UE or indeed actually use Decima. - But I guess most developers know their way around UE nowadays, if that is a fair assumption, and a game like this might not be too complex to be problematic easily. And if Gobo is doing the more technical stuff, considering the variety of all they've worked on before (which you wouldn't believe, go check their website), that should be no problem.

Here's a thought: Maybe it's not so much intended for Switch as it's for the follow-up?... I imagine that playing one and the same title between the two systems would be seamless, or risk angering a lot of Switch-users that would need to re-purchase the same games. So, I feel like it might be safe to say that it's only put on Switch for the sake of sales, kind of like how they still kept putting certain PS5-games on PS4 (working well or not) and this will be more attractive on the new "Switch". Which is around the corner, right?... Even if that's later in 2025, I feel that's quite close.

Why do people think that only Traveler's Tales work on Lego games? There are several recent Lego games that are not from Traveler's Tales and not on the same style, i.e Builder's Journey, Brawls, Bricktales and 2K Drive each of them from a different studio, not to mention the collaborations like Fortnight and Forza. A Horizon Lego game though was indeed surprising and at least from the footage we saw it seems nice.

Obviously he was referring to the same style of the "main" games, the ones that tend to take an IP and build a LEGO-adventure around it. - This is one of them and WOULD have been from Tt. But that "Skywalker Saga" one was the last the did so far and I can't find what they're working on now. - There is also a "Fortnite" one after that, which was actually made by Epic themselves. - So it seems like Tt is kind of done with it or something, or they're just preparing to get on with the next project since I noticed they had engine-troubles, so... Who knows.

There were no games in the style of the "main" games as you say before Traveler's Tales, each Lego game was completely different from the rest. Lego Movie 2 and Skywalker Saga were 3 years apart, with Skywalker Saga being based on an existing game (although it was changed so much that you could say that they basically had to start it from scratch). If they are working on a new IP, perhaps it's still early for an announcement.
