Vacuum tube amp. Great detail on the back of the amp. It would have been so easy to make the back flat and closed with the assumption that the front side is the display side. I appreciate the extra effort.

yeah - the amp is the star here (for me) - I don´t think too many catch my favourite detail: pretty much the first thing you build is the spring reverb unit (that hose you put at the bottom in the back of the amp)...INSANE !! If you hit an fender amp in real life that thing makes an unbelievably flash-like sound - instant sixties surf-guitar vibe... Then the circiutboard, the speaker cone, the tubes, the grille, wires, footswitch...they nailed it - big time !!

Been a Fender guy for 30 years (for my guitars anyways). Ideas is in my top 3 themes to collect, so I knew I was getting this set when it was announced. Had a couple Strats over the years, but by true love will always be my Telecaster. I get why they chose the Stratocaster, it’s the more recognizable model. Wasn’t impressed with the likeness from the initial images, and less so after I built it. I think they could have taken away the option to change colors and used that extra parts budget to make it more robust and clean…or even do a Strat/Tele 2 in 1. I’m in the process of trying to transform it into the telecaster body and make the head a bit less wonky and it’s been fun. The printed neck pieces are awesome. 100% with Jang regarding the control knobs. The amp is spot on ( look up a Fender “Champ” 6 watt 1X8 - dead ringer). I think the stand is an amazing extra since it mimics a guitar stand that you will find in any home or professional music studio. All in all, for $100 they got a lot done. Great addition to the collection.

Though on the fence with this one, as a Rock music enthusiast It would make or an amazing display piece. Given the choice whether to go only with the guitar opposed to with amp for a cheaper price, I'd definitely go with amp. Accompanies the guitar beautifully, and really symbolizes for me what rock music is all about. Feeling, and volume.

The designer did pretty impressive work on this to make it as good as it is but IMO the end product is not great looking. I get why they did the strat but a tele would've probably translated better into lego while still being a really iconic guitar design just bc it's less curvy overall. Would probably have also been easier to make the controls look accurate/stand out enough, compared w/ the knobs on this one (and the output jack is??? kind of terrible? Like I get it would've been hard to place it correctly w/ the design as is but the final design looks like they just gave up on trying). The amp is really cool, beautifully executed, looks great front and back, the interior details are spot on, love the inclusion of the tubes even though they're not visible from many angles. Very weird that the guitar looks okay from a distance and bad as you look closer and the amp looks fine from a distance and incredibly detailed as you look closer lol.

I liked it when I saw the pictures, and this review strongly confirmed that initial feeling. I especially love what they did with the amp, that's just perfect. Just two things I don't like: a few stickers that should have been prints for a typical collectors set, and those additional black pieces that only bump up the price. How hard can it be to just make different versions of the same set? Or do a red one this year, change it into a black one next year, and yet another color in 2023. And maybe a few special "limited edition" versions besides the regular one? I wouldn't be surprised if quite I few people would just buy all of them....

I just got mine on Thursday and built the stand and neck part that day and did the rest of the guitar and the amp today while doing laundry loads. The only gripe I had with this set is 2 minor ones, the way you have to string up the strings up the neck can be tedious but if you take your time they work great I also had that one string the 'longest' one go past the neck but I just tweaked the adjusters and it looks great. the other is that use of a minifig jewel for the power light it wants you to stick into the backside of a grey round single stud brick but the peg of the jewel will NOT fit, I found that I had an extra round gray brick with a hole in the middle I used that instead and it worked GREAT.

That’s quite a lot of grille pieces on that amp! My opinion stay the same than for the previews of this set: the amp is surprisingly nice, the guitar is fine, and the price is "delirious".

Thanks for the review. I'm more of a pointy guitar type (think Explorer) so I'm not really into this set. The amp, though... 😮 Very nice Lego recreation of the real Fender Princeton, right down to the location and number of the valves/vacuum tube (the transparent Lego cylinders on the bottom. Release the same thing with an Explorer, King V, Randy Rhoads or Kelly and a Marshall JCM 800 and I could be interested. 😁

I feel like this set is a huge wasted opportunity for LEGO to take advantage of the whole "colour picker" option on their website. It feels like this set should be 75-80$ which the choice to go black or red with it, like they're trialing with the Fiat 500 set. Maybe that's just me.

This comment is not specifically about the guitar, but all Lego kits that have builds where the piece count is inflated by a change in color. This is one, the Bonsai is another. How many pieces is the guitar are devoted to change the color? Lego should show the "base" piece count, the show how many pieces are used to change the color.

Good review but kind of misses the mark on the criticism. If you want perfection you don't want this kit. I've found all Lego kits have one fault or another. There's always something quirky in the fit and finish. In this one it seems to be the strings and the pick guard is too angled, and also the curve of the guitar is not the greatest. But people need to step back and look at the bigger picture - it is Lego not a model kit. You have to accept the limitations of Lego construction. Every builder can find fault with something - the big picture - this is an incredible set. Live with the obvious limitations and enjoy the build and the finished product. Personally, I'm tempted to buy two so I can have one of each color guitar. Other thought - you can probably buy bricks from Lego to make any color guitar you want, and Lego should offer a guitar set by itself to match (or a Les Paul kit!).

I'm a huge Lego fan, but as the owner of several Stratocasters, I have to say, this thing looks bad. The Stratocaster has an iconic shape and several distinct features that make it one of the most popular guitars in the world, and this just doesn't capture any of that. I appreciate the inclusion of the amp, but let's face it. It's a rectangle. Want something Stratocaster-shaped to put on display? For $100, you're more than halfway to an actual Squier Stratocaster. This thing looks like a kid's crayon drawing, to me.
