Lego Loco: Review

Not an April Fool's day joke. This was the first Lego Media Game released, and I remember playing at a kid, but couldn't remember what was all about. Well, take a trip back in time with me as we look at Lego Loco.

Did you know by placing buildings or set-pieces in specific patterns, you can generate custom, secret buildings and characters? 2x red houses side by side makes a big house. 2x of the IG skyscrapers side by side makes a giant robot. 4 radar thingys in a 2x2 grid make a rocket-ship on launchpad, ect.

I do remember vaguely knowing that you could send stuff between computers, but I couldn't really figure out how. It seemed so cool as a 90s kid. Nowadays, it's very unimpressive.

A lot of the stuff you used to do in the game is EXACTLY what I'd do, such as making tweaks and naming the people in my town after people I knew. I especially had fun with the mail delivery. But I think I'll end it there as what I would send would be crazy asf.

Loco was head of its time in a lot of ways, basically a cozy city builder before that was a thing.

god the memory is flushing back when i watch this, even then i thout the game was lacking and had nothing to it, but when i had finished my town, i couldent stop playing and just look at my town, watching everyone who lived in it walk around, take the train or cars to random places in the town, it feelt satisfying and fun, just to sit there and watch it all play out

I used to play this game a lot, and I felt a little sad that I couldn't remember the story aspect of the game - it's good to know there was no story aspect to the game. I remember packing in as many trains as I could all at once managing them to their destinations, I was an autistic kid and my ADHD aligned with this game I could happily flick switches constantly for hours.

In primary school around 02, a teacher put it on the class computer but since all computers were linked up it ended up on our entire school network, which may have been illegal now that I think about it 😂😂

This might be the game that would eventually catapult me into factory games. I used to play this along with lego island 2, lego rock raiders, lego creator and legoland. From time to time I still get back into rock raiders but the rest have remained untouched for ages. I tried to set up the LAN functionality to work with a friend but I could never get it working. At some point I really got into factorio and later satisfactory mainly because I saw the trains and remembered this specific game. I thought that I needed to try it because it allowed me to capture this feeling of managing trains that lego loco brought back in the day.

I used to play this game a ton back at my local train museum, it was so much fun. Never knew you could actually buy it until very recently, and now I might need it again. I fully blame this game for my interest in city managing and building game like C:S and Simcity back what that IP was supported.

I can imagine this working as a mobile game for kids. Something to distract them that's actually good for them, rather than the rubbish we see nowadays..

I loved this game as a kid. In a way, it's almost like a simplified version of Sim City. It'd be so cool if Lego could release another game like this. Because who HASN'T wanted to build their own Lego city?

I would love to see a modern take on a LEGO City builder in the same vein as classic SimCity or Cities: Skylines. You could have scenarios, a creative mode, start from scratch, etc. Currency would be Studs and population counted in " 'figures" or " 'figs". Plus, it'd be a nice opportunity to acknowledge the LEGO City meme. "A minifigure has fallen into the water! HEY!!! This is serious!"

This game was such a bait and switch, the train on the cover wasn't in the game!! At least I have a double length 4559 Cargo Railway in real life now. I have a windows XP machine in my kitchen and I've been playing this game while I eat 😅

I often question if this is actually a game or not. It seems more like a virtual Lego city builder than anything else. It is a mere alternative to building cities with real Lego.

The main two things I don't like is that you can't get the train from the intro which is much cooler than all of the other trains in the game as well as not being able to put top and tail locos on a single train

what if they remade it keep it this simple but with a bigger maps and more unlockable buildings by merging making it more a relaxing puzzel game were you can also build a large lego city without the puzzel part

Each machine is different. PCGamingWiki is what I recommend. Most old games have an alternative installer
