Hey LEGO Maniacs! In this episode of OLD SCHOOL WEDNESDAYS we'll be reviewing the Rocky River Retreat... how many R's can you fit in a set name ;)
This set is pretty interesting, lot of different techniques used with older pieces, and to top it all off one of the strangest minifig heads I've come across...
As always let me know what you guys think? Thanks for watching and may the brick be with you... always

Completely agree, the baseplates from the 80s and 90s were honestly amazing 👌

This set is the same age as one of my cousins. 1993 is a year of Lego I'm not as familiar with, and I'm oftentimes not sure whether to classify the year itself as being part of the early or mid '90s. As for the set itself, it is the only other appearance of the 6x8 10-degree slope with slate prints outside of two sets from the "Paradisa" subtheme the year before this. The fence in white also debuted there, and was retired four years ago. The door in yellow would only be seen in bulk bricks for the rest of its usage before being retired in '99. The 1x4x2 window element in yellow also makes its third and final appearance here. The horse saddle in red was actually retired twenty years ago after appearing in a re-release of the "Black Falcon's Fortress" (10039) originally from '86. The smaller trees in green were actually retired last year after appearing in the "Town Center" (60292) from City.

Interesting, and I actually have the same problem with alot of sets from 93 to 89 roughly, they were just before my time that I got into LEGO and sometimes gets murky

I agree, it's an odd one. I've seen it a couple times in used hauls I've gotten. Apparently it was used in a ton of figures/sets back in the day.

Oh you have a review of this set! :D Pretty cool set and like I said earlier, exactly the type of shack I love when I'm around the world travelling with my friends. This set just makes me happy everytime I look at it (and in a few days from now, one will be mine, local store has it and just waits for the final piece from Bricklink to arrive, my name is already on that one, alongside the Renegade Runner and the Sheriff's Office)

@@TieTheLegoGuy I'm not gonna reveal that ;-) There are still maaaany sets missing. The most problematic being the Amazon Ancient Ruins and Dark Forest Fortress... these were US exclusive and therefor are so expensive in Europe... :/

hi. Im not trying to be mean or invasive but you know how you did all those lego castle theme vidios, how did you get all the sets? Did you use ebay or is there a cheeper place?
@TieTheLegoGuy
@TieTheLegoGuy 4 жыл бұрын
Hey no thats not invasive at all, um most the sets i bought when they were out in stores. But some on ebay, also bricklink works well. You can part out a set on bricklink too which makes it cheaper

Cool little set. Love the base plate. My first time seeing it. I added it my want list on Bricklink in case I come across one, but currently only one US seller has it. There are a handful of sellers with the whole set which isn't too outrageously expensive. Funny to see some things they were doing...crazy that little piece was a fish haha. That shutters over the windows build goes back at least as far as my childhood in the 70s. Pretty cool fishing pole too. I added it to my want list too.

I really appreciate this Lego set, because they leave enought elements for to play integrating nature and animals on regular and relaxing situation; vs now a days police sets, that actually sets that are all so similiar between them, based only police-robbers hollow stereotypes
@TieTheLegoGuy
@TieTheLegoGuy 4 жыл бұрын
I had never really sat down and though about that. But thinking about it now it does bother me, new sets are often times too flashy, i tended to not buy them but not sure exactly why. Great point, LEGO needs to revert back to more chill sets, instead of typical good guys vs bad guys

Man when I was a kid in like the mid 90s my mom gave me and my brothers a ton of old legos from an older neighbor kid. I remember certain legos like those minifigs outfits and I always wondered what sets they came from. Good nostalgia trip lol
