I feel like Lego is approaching their "Marvel/DC in the 90s" stage where they feel like they can just put out any random stuff and people will just buy it because it's Lego and anything Lego is "worth it"

This year? Lego's been doing weird stuff for the past couple of years. Ever since the pandemic, it feels like they saw more people buying adult sets and felt like they can put out anything under the 18+ branding or aimed at collectors and people will buy it. Stuff like this, the modern art set, the big expensive Hulkbuster that was so fragile and out of proportion just so it could fit a buildable figure made got kids

​@joevictor53 That, and judging by some of the sets being discontinued after not even a year on the market, some of these sets are failing badly. Sure, you'll get some 18+ successes with surefire hits like Avengers Tower or Barad-dur or presumably The Deku Tree. But there's also all of the modern art sets, the Batcave Shadowbox, etc. And that's not even mentioning the Indiana Jones revival crashing and burning and most of the Mario expansions failing to catch on. LEGO is simply putting out far too much product at far too high a price. While the tried and true will still sell, their approach of throwing absolutely everything at the wall to see what will stick has led to a lot of stuff just failing to catch on in any way.

Ok, so I'm a huge fan of Shadow the Hedgehog. A ton of my friends are huge fans of Shadow. Most Sonic fans I've ever seen in person or online are huge fans of Shadow. Everyone loves Shadow the Hedgehog. I cannot find a single person who would ever want to buy this. It barely looks like any model of Shadow ever used, & you can't do anything with it. A posable Shadow figure? Sure, i can see there being a market for that, I'd probably buy one. But a random bust of his head for 70$? There is no way this would ever sell.

The finished product looks like it is only halfway done. To me it looks like this would be part 1/2 with a second box with booklet to build the rest of the back of the head. I wonder what people will come up with to improve this version.

I think on a purely conseptual level it's kinda strange, if Lego were trying to hit the "18+" market they've already done it perfectly with that ideas set, that clearly sold well, I think something like that again or something more like the diorama sets of recent would've been a perfect fit, there's plenty of iconic scenes from the games to pull from but for some odd reason lego seems scared to reference any game directly, although saying that this one's box does have sonic adventure 2 on the back for some reason

There's so many 18+ sets that could sell, they could of done something like the spiderman art set or a pixel art version of one of the murals of Perfect Chaos, They could have done a bust of metal Sonic to avoid the fleshy issue and simplify the silhouette a little

I feel like from the front or just a smidge to the side it looks…fine enough? but the back of the head, like you point out, and top quill feel short and that really throws it off to me. That and, like you also said, an actual head on it does feel very “decapitated head on a spike” compared to the helmets. Maybe if it had a base akin to the Venom bust, where it’s black pieces? I think if it could’ve been designed to look more like a neck/top of the chest (with the way he has that white fur patch), that might've come across better.

I 100% agree that the back of the head needs bulked out, but in opinion the eyes only really look right at a side view, the spacing between them is just too wide.

Even though I personally do not collect many display sets and have little interest in them, my son (between the ages of 8-12) has several displays sets of various themes and I could see this being fun for a Sonic fan. Just because it’s not for me doesn’t mean it’s not for someone else.

Besides the concept itself being weird, I think it just looks ugly. That head looks super awkward to me from every angle. None of the proportions are right. It's evident that it was a real struggle to recreate any part of Shadow's head, since his head is supposed to be so smooth and rounded.

Well the thing is that Shadow actually does have sharper features depending on the artist. But this set just recreates none of that. His bottom two spikes are supposed to jut downwards at a far steeper angle before going back up, and the front of his muzzle is also supposed to have a far steeper angle to it, flowing into the nose. The muzzle is also supposed to follow the line of the eye, which this just... doesn't.

I actually like this Shadow set - in large part because making a very complex shape like this one (out of Lego) is a monumental task, as evidenced by some of the Star Wars and Marvel helmet builds… also, having a couple of hidden easter eggs is kind of fun too.

i was waiting for a final chase set, a radical highway set, maybe even the first level of shadow the hedgehog or some level from sonic 06, but no, we got a decapitated head that is not even well built, the star wars helmets work because they are helmets, so it makes sense, but this just doesn't make sense and also looks bad, cuz whoever built this is stupid
