I honestly wouldn't complain as much about the price increases if the designs were always getting better, but it's just downgrades left and right. The minifigs aren't bad here, but nothing really feels too special either.

Genuinely think we're getting to the stage where Lego Star Wars outside of battle packs is becoming unaffordable for the general consumer. The whole point of a starfighter as a kid is that you're buying another one to have a battle with, 45 dollars for a tiny jedi interceptor and 70 for the arc-170 just makes it really unaffordable for a kid to really play with them. With these prices it feels like kids are being priced out of the entire theme, why spend 45 dollars on a tiny ship when you can buy multiple video games with longer lasting value?

Kids are becoming less interested in toys now that technology does so much for them. Rather than fight that and make toys more appealing to kids, I think Lego are trying to benefit from the growing demographic that is adult fans. They might not care that Lego Star Wars is not affordable for most kids if they make enough money from adults. Their original IPs like Ninjago are probably still heavily kids' sales, but Star Wars is one of their oldest themes still going, so has a lot of older fans for this strategy to work.

100%. No other theme is this overpriced. LEGO is expensive generally, but at least normally it’s consistent with inflation and set size. LEGO Star Wars is not at all fairly priced. I would love all of these sets if I didn’t feel like I was getting scammed buying it. But that doesn’t stop people from making purchases regardless 🤷‍♂️

Makes me wonder if the sales prices they offer on like May 4, BF, Boxing Day, Amazon Sales, etc. are what the actual prices should be, because the market for LEGO Star Wars has grown and LEGO knows people will pay high prices on Day 1, they inflate the cost.

@@Poopustheclown bruh literally the only one of these that's ever been made before was the ARC-170, FIFTEEN years ago. The Grogu one is arguable too I guess but it was a totally different scale and half of this one's build is the pram. The home one, the acclamator, and Ahsoka's interceptor are brand new and were all highly requested by the community. This is the literal worst example you could have chosen for the "lego just makes the same thing over and over again" argument
@KazudaXiono
@KazudaXiono Ай бұрын
I wouldn’t necessarily call this wave redundant. Most of the sets are vehicles from Star Wars which we either have never seen before in LEGO, or have not been made in 10+ years. The last ARC-170 released in 2009, almost 16 years ago. It’s a set that has been long asked for to be remade, so I wouldn’t say it’s completely out of left-field either. Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor has never been made as a set, and also includes minifigures of Ahsoka, in an outfit we haven’t seen in 10 years. The midi-scale Acclamator is a unique set of a ship we’ve never seen before in LEGO outside of polybags. The midi-scale Home-One is a set we also haven’t seen in a while, with it being 16 years since the Home-One playset released. However, the set did not represent the ship, but a hanger within it, plus the meeting room from the first act of ROTJ. While the buildable Grogu is something we have seen before, and it hasn’t been too long since it retired, (about a year) it is unique in the fact where it isn’t just a statue of Grogu, as it includes the pram, and is at a completely different scale. The 4+ N-1 Starfighter, while being released at the same time as the play-scale version, is obviously not intended as a “remake” of the set, but rather a version of the ship for much younger audiences. While value-wise, the wave sure is questionable, it’s far from redundant. Constant remakes aren’t even unique to just Star Wars. Take themes like Harry Potter, or LEGO City for example. I don’t necessarily view remakes as a bad thing, either.

Eh I don’t think the last one was overpriced. It was a pretty big set but flimsy around the wings and you got Kit Fisto. That’s what a triple A game was for the longest time. Halo Reach, Black Ops, New Vegas etc. These days you get a game and it’s $70 while it’s broken and unfinished. "$70 does not feel outrageous." Perhaps by the inflated standards of Lego Star Wars, but to me, it's pretty crazy for fewer than 500 pieces. I recently bought a Funwhole set (with lights) that was around the same price for over 1,800 pieces and a Pantasy set with 3,000 pieces for not much more. (In fairness, those included discounts, but since their sets are discounted or have promo codes pretty much year round, I treat those as the MSRP's.)

These prices in general are getting absolutely ridiculous. The only set that doesn't feel completely overpriced is the grogu set, cuz at least that thing has over 1000 pieces and some pretty big ones aswell. Which makes the prices for the other sets, especially the midi-scale ones, feel even more absurd. If the grogu can be sold at a 10c/piece ratio, with big pieces, printed parts, and even a minifigure, what is the reasonable justification for the midi scale sets being so above in the PPP ratio, even though they use only very tiny pieces, don't have minifigures at all...? (It's a rhetorical question, the answer is obviously because they know they can charge these prices and keep getting away with it.) LEGO has always been expensive, as Jang says, but it just seems like their only priority, their single objective nowadays, is maximizing the corporate profit margin above everything else, with complete disregard to respecting consumers, whom, may I recall, saved them from bankruptcy in the early 2000s. Sadly, LEGO seems to have unlearned the first thing about gratitude, and it still has this market cornered, and until such a time comes when we have more healthy competition in this segment, things are only going to get worse and worse. What a shame.

Yeah it's pretty much the same as Luke's X-Wing from 2021 which was €50 back then. Same number of figures with an astromech for almost the same piece count. It's smaller in length but wider that that set I'm pretty sure although the images they give makes it look smaller all around (with no wing opening mechanism). Accounting for inflation, it would be about €60 now. So yeah they're blatantly "scamming" knowing that fans will blindly pay anything. The Horizon sets are the only things keeping me hopeful

@@ethanarndt6359Most of the people complaining about the price when comparing them to older sets were probably barely born when the sets in question came out, or theyre finally buying sets for themselves (ie youre not getting sets for free from your parents who, i assure you, felt they were also getting robbed spending a bunch of money on plastic building toys). How do you think parents from the 90s to the 2010s felt about spending $50+ on a bunch of plastic for a kids toy? PPP is the same if not better, and kids cant cope with the price of lego when its always been an expensive toy line. People are acting like some rug is being pulled from them when its been like this for decades. You gotta save up for things you want in life, tough cookies fellas.
@3xasfast811
@3xasfast811 Ай бұрын
@@ethanarndt6359 Lego has done an awful job at keeping costs low and continues to rise them across the board. They consistently put out expensive collectors sets while standard releases are smaller and more expensive than they were in other years. Lego does this because they understand they have whales which will buy every $300+ set and that's how they profit. Understand that Lego is one of the most successful toy companies EVER they make loads of money. If they really cared about quality we wouldn't have seen so many poor prints on minifigs or stickers in expensive sets in the last few years which demonstrate they are cutting costs. This entire wave is full of overpriced sets like the Jedi interceptor. Funny that companies like Bandai and Tamiya that make plastic model kits can keep their prices down and continue to reprint old kits without price gouging the consumer. They're both super successful companies! It's not about the rise in plastic prices it's just greed.

I dropped almost 100 bucks on a 2003 Geonosian Fighter on Bricklink a few weeks back. Complete with all parts and minifigs in fairly good condition. Pricey, because it's 20 years old and old gray, plus every figure in this set was exclusive, AND it had multiple exclusive prints and rare colors, not a single sticker. The Geonosian Fighter had an MSRP of 20 USD when it released in 2003. 20 USD, for TWO decent sized builds, WITH printed pieces, with FOUR figures, two of whom were standard battle droids, but in a special color, and two of whom had unique molded heads AND leg printing. Oh, and one of them had wings as a cape, which were also printed. And sure, here I am paying for 1 for the price of 4-5 of them now, but Lego doesn't make them anymore, and let's be real, I'm partly paying for nostalgia. But come on, they're actually good. These new sets offer exactly zero of those upsides. Gosh knows when we're gonna get any AOTC thing that isn't a gunship again, anyway.

This is a late comment, but on the subject of Ahsoka's starfighter, I'd argue that the canopy piece isn't subjectively inaccurate, it's *objectively* inaccurate. The actual Eta 2 fighter's canopy cuts off sharply at the back, but for some reason Lego decided on a build for it that curves down into a bulbous shape instead. Seems they're not only trying to see how far they can go with shrinking sets and upping prices, they're starting to screw up details they already got right years before. It's ironic with how popular this set and the ARC-170 are with people, while even if I didn't have one or the other, I'm quite disappointed in the faults of both that could've been easily avoided/fixed. The high price tags ($45 and $70 respectively) don't help either.

The starfighter line used to be ideal birthday gift price. $20, and repeat purchases year over year give you a nice army of fighters and jedi with them. Making them $25 after several years, understandable. $30... pushing it but fine. But $45... Thats a price increase of $20 since 2019. And it has been a consistent $5 raise with each fighter since the 2022 Obiwan fighter. No opinions on the Arc, its $10 more than the last one but scaled down a bit. Feels fine and in line with star wars scaling down the ships (like the 2021 x wing) to make them more affordable after Xwings and tie fighters hit $80. Also no opinion on the rest of the sets, ahsoka's fighter is cool but im not approaching that until it's under $30.

The ARC-170 and the Interceptor looks good but those prices are ridiculous. No reason to buy them on Day 1 tho, they are gonna be on the shelves for at least a couple years so plenty of chances to grab them with a 20% or 25% disscount if not more.

I think the Arc 170 foils might be opened/closed by that lever at the bottom shown in the same slide? That would automatically put it 4 steps above the original, and also explain the rather blocky underside, space for some mechanism

The Acclamator looks like a really nice and accurate build, with some interesting things going on through the center and the engines. The price is _rough_ though. For $10 less, I might've considered it, but this is not great

The other sets are okay priced, Grogu & pram is probably the best deal in my opinion. It is the ARC-170 and Jedi Interceptor that are bad, should have been $60 and $35 respectively.

The starship series has once again proven to be a great group of sets, I love both of the sets slated for the early portion of next year, and the price points are pretty nice, too all things considered. I was not expecting a home one set, and I am wonderfully surprised. I know everyone is pretty disappointed with the Arc-170, but there's some cool stuff here, and the creator sets revealed for the same time are neat, too.

Looks like the ARC-170 uses a sliding mechanism down at the base to make the wings pop open. Not finger hinges. That might explain some of the bulk at the bottom of the model.

I love the midi-scale series, but man that home one is a tough pill to swallow. The acclimator is at least in a range where I can afford a little overpricing but man... these are getting ridiculous. I liked the 170 and interceptor, but there is literally no way I could afford them

I'm torn on the ARC-170, I could never afford the previous models as a kid, and I can appreciate the idea of scaling it down like other recent fighter sets, but the ARC is kinda supposed to be a big fighter and this one looks kinda weird. Something about the pilots really hits a good spot for me though, really like those figures. Ahsoka's fighter looks really nice to me but is absolutely overpriced. I love that the Acclamator is getting appreciation but I'm also a hypocrite because I don't think I'd buy it, even if it was like 10-15$ cheaper.

Thank you for your reactions Jang! I love Star Wars and Lego… these prices however, they are so much ughh ☹️ I am interested in Ashoka’s interceptor, I love Clone Wars and I want it! Will wait for a sale of course, it’s the only option. I hope the new year brings more playsets and affordable options for us! Excited to see your reviews for any of these ❤️ I wish you well idk where to express this but it makes me sad that Lego won’t do any Acolyte sets or Bad Batch season 2&3. No more sequels stuff… I hope the Skeleton Crew set does well and Lego and Star Wars will wanna do stuff from the other shows :D

One flaw with the new interceptor piece is that they made it stick to the front glass piece, which should be attached to the ship and was accurately represented in previous models. A minor detail to some, but you can't say they couldn't have gotten it right.

I don't know much about the lore but if I remember correctly in the 2005 battlefront game the ARC-170s land on their belly. Also I quickly checked the opening scene from revenge of the sith, and to my eye it looks like the interceptor is almost in the same scale which is nice.

I dont even bother with new releases unless theres a nice GWP for it and I feel like spending Insiders points for a discount. Hell Iv gotten to the point where I mostly focus on retiring sets that usually are on sale periodically online pretty much everywhere. i have adapted to Lego's increasing prices by not chasing the new thing and focusing on what thing is about to leave. It has saved me so much money over the past 3-4 years when I started to buy things like this

The Lego Disney Buildable Hei Hei set just got revealed and oh my gosh. Holy cow is that thing absolutely beautiful. The colors and pieces used are phenomenal! And the price for piece is really good! 566 pieces for $40 is really good. I gotta start being more mindful about what sets I buy. Star Wars is getting ridiculously expensive, and I can’t justify paying $45 for a starfighter and $70 for an Arc-170.

I was so hyped for this set and planned to get few becuase i never got previous one when i still could (and i hate myself for this) but i think i'll get one perhaps and hope for some good mods

I'm so glad I'm not a Star Wars collector, the prices on these new sets are insane. The Mandalorian N-1 fighter really threw me, as did the Jedi Interceptor. I remember only a few years ago a set like that would be 20 bucks and the Mandalorian fighter seems more expected for 10 than 30. I imagine they will have trouble making a significant percentage of their sales on these sets at MSRP or will be rather slow moving as inventory if retailers don’t realign prices with discounts.

Haha! That Grogu looks very Gizmo/Furby-esque lol Especially the mouth. Acclamator is... kinda dissapointing to me. I was very happy and excited to hear they finally made one, but then I looked at pictures, and the profile was all kinds of wrong. Midi-scale ships aren't always accurate (Executor was very fat for instance), but I wish it was a bit better.

Personally, I like Ahsoka's interceptor much more than the ARC-170, and I've always adored it. But as Jang said perfectly here, it just doesn't give me that feeling. Compared to the 2010 ARC-170 I would much rather have the 2010 one, despite its flaws such as the wing sagging, it just felt good to me. Ahsoka's interceptor gives me that feeling, it looks more like a classic Lego Star Wars set from the 2010's and overall. I do like the design, even the canopy to an extent, and I missed out on the older interceptors and have always wanted one. But I rarely buy Lego Star Wars anymore because of the insane size decrease and price increase. Ever since Disney bought Star Wars, and inflation in general, Lego Star Wars went from being my most purchased theme to my least purchased. I would by the ARC-170 but 70 dollars for under 500 pieces is so hard to accept and the overall model doesn't make me feel good, especially the blocky underside. $45 for the interceptor is insane as well, but I like it enough to make it one of my few Lego Star Wars purchases for the year.

That astromech is a remake, actually. That being said I plan on getting this set for R4-P44 as well. Landing gear is not necessary but would be a nice inclusion. Over all the arc 170 should probably be 50 60 dollars; However, 70 is not bad due to the 2011 set being 60 back then.
