Love this set! I got this for my (now adult) kids back in 99. We had loads of fun racing...and subsequently rebuilding and continually putting pieces back on the things. It was so cool back then. Thanks for showing this!

As a kid I wanted this set so much, but it was really expensive, so my parents never bought it for me. I remember it being around 3000 CZK back then, which is around 129 USD using today’s rate. Of course the price includes VAT in the Czech Republic.

2023 here!! I had so much fun with this set as a child, so many memories!! I played the ‘Episode I: Racer’ game so much on PC, followed by the PS2 ‘Racer Revenge’ game. I had the original Anakin podracer, then this set (with a second Anakin) and also set 7186 ‘Watto’s Junkyard’, with Aldar Beedo and the destroyed engines of Mawhonic. I scavenged parts from my second Anakin podracer to complete Mawhonic’s and built my own podracers too to race them around my room 😂 Wish they’d go and make some more official podracers. My favourites from the original Episode I: Racer game included: Ben Quadinaros Neva Kee Wan Sadage

Not only is this the only time we've gotten Gasgano's pod in a set, it also marks one of only two appearances of the 4x4x2 cone w/axle hole in "Mata green", with the other being "Watto's Junkyard" (7186) from 2001, and the 2x2 "macaroni" round corner brick in that color is exclusive to this set. The 1x4 vehicle hinge holder in that color only came in one other set before, (6543) and one other set after this (7124). Some of the parts in purple such as the 1x1 flat tile and the 2x2x2 cone w/open stud are exclusive to this set, while the 1x2 grille in that color also came in an "Alpha Team" set (6772) in March 2001.

I got this set back in 1999 and I loved it to death. I used to build my own Podracers from my collection and race them, so my parents got me the big set for Christmas. I still have Sebulba's racer built and I've been thinking about rebuilding the rest and doing some mods to make it look more modern.

4:03 every single piece was custom made for R2-D2 and surprisingly the design hasn’t changed over the last 25 years 4:38 both him and Aldar Beedo (2001 Wattos Junkyard) were both created using a process called static charge molding where they would take the plastic and use static electric shock pressure to mold the pieces together instead of heat which gives it the rough rubberized material texture it was very effective for its time but extremely costly so it was hardly used for Lego Star Wars in that regard or any other sets unless you want to delve into the early Lego Harry Potter sets which heavily used it after the success of Lego Star Wars

Brother had the stand alone pod racer set from 99, but never bothered with this one. Having the most recent rendition of Anakin's podracer it's unfortunate Lego doesn't release stand alone updates to some of the other pod racers. Great, honest review though.

Aww! My first and favourite Lego SW set! I would disassemble it, rebuild and assemble almost every day while in my mid teens. Still keep it carefully in the orginal boxes - all the 3 in 1!
