I like the tone of the first one, but I could never buy that it took place in the Mario universe. The characters/enemies didn’t share any design language with the Mario series, but with the modern interpretation, while it may not be as dark, I do think it makes more sense from a design perspective. The more wacky, cartoonish characters may not be everyone’s favorite, but they undeniably feel more accurate to the Mario universe!

I'm really glad that Nintendo is making a lot more LEGO versions of their games, in addition to making animated movies, or anime/manga. These two Mario LEGO sets are looking really good, can't wait to play with them someday

I love the sets, but the commercial itself has a few nods to horror themed films over the years. The two that I saw are the dad looks exactly like Egon Spengler from Ghostbusters, and the dog is the same breed from Tim Burton’s live action Frankenweenie (that and it looks most like Polterpup).

It looks like they mixed elements from all the Luigi's Mansion games into these LEGO sets, from the toads trapped in paintings from Dark Moon to the older ghosts from the original. This is also my favorite game series, so its nice to see it gain more traction! Also, I can't be the only one who heard the "High!" sound from Superstar Saga in the video.
