Reminds me of the "DUKE" engine that 20 years ago showed great promise, and yet, is still in testing phase... I wish they would release it before I die... LOL... clever build.

Yeah ! I actually started wanting to build axial Lego engines since I saw the Duke Engine demo video... years ago ;) One of my subscribers showed me a motorcycle with a 25cm in diameter duke engine, recently released ! I can't remember the brand, it could be a Ducatti or a Kawazaki, if not mistaking ^^ Thank you a lot for your support & have a nice day, fellow !

Daniele Benedetti Hi I'm ur neighbor from German ( ok kind of there is Austria and Switzerland in between) you could mount a joint so the crankshaft does a l shape. Theconect it with a small gear

This could actually work, it would be a unefficient high torque engine
@robokid200016 жыл бұрын
Lardah420 This would actually have almost no torque because there's no rotating mass. It's all on a pivot. It would also be crazy unbalanced and shake itself to bits.
@ScironTheBandit6 жыл бұрын
Tyler Em I imagine there is a counter-balance solution that could be implemented, doesn't seem that difficult to create one.
@PhotonlcInduction6 жыл бұрын
Lardah420 They do work. Axial and swashplate engines are not new.
@robokid200016 жыл бұрын
ScironTheBandit I mean, you would need an entirely separate portion of the crank offset 180° from the one driving the pistons. It would definitely be a hell of a job to make. t. Machinist
@ScironTheBandit6 жыл бұрын
Tyler Em without drawing a kinematic model for it, I'm just guessing here, but to me you could counterbalance the ball fairly easily, as well as the (in this case) lego-motor driven crank. The vibrations from the pistons all facing the same direction might be able to be countered by a weighted disc, tilted out of phase to the piston order, riding on linear guides and possibly, rotationally driven by a planetary gearset. Just some spitball ideas.

Yes, it is for esthetic purposes, and adding a bit of mechanical marvel mainly ;) Besides this, you're totally right, If your goal is to drive the car, we should better go with electric motors !

Most often, just by messing around with parts... and when I'm stuck on a design, I cycle through every single one of my parts (nicely sorted inside racks of drawers) to see if there isn't one that fits the needs. Other than this, this specific design was inspired by the "Duke" engine. Have a nice day!
