This reminds me of something I had as a kid. It was k'nex, not lego, and it was named Big Ball Factory. It was a gargantuan tower, as tall as kid-me, that sent plastic balls (a little larger than ping pong balls) down four different paths from top to bottom. Each ball was delivered to the top with a mechanism like your #6 lifter, then went through a set of dividers, which routed balls down alternating paths by flipping an upside-down T-shaped object as a ball went through it. There was a loop-de-loop. Kid me loved the loop-de-loop. Thank you for the nostalgia trip. Great build.

If somebody were just starting out with building mechanical Lego models today, which sets should they buy? Is there a line of Lego sets that are mostly for building machines and not things like, for exmaple, a specific model of muscle car? I'm thinking of a mechanical version of their classic building sets. I had a couple of "Expert Builder" sets in the 1980s (auto chassis and helicopter) that I loved. I no longer have them, sadly. My kids would like to get into mechanical models, but it doesn't look like Lego sells "Expert Builder" sets any more or an equivalent.

I suppose you are talking about Lego technic sets? which comes in many different varieties, in both sizes and complexity. I recommend surfing around the web to find sets that look cool that you want to build. But keep in mind that Lego technic isn’t the same as in the 1980’s. It’s much more complex and they rarely use “technic bricks” anymore. Instead the building is mostly made out of many different shapes and sizes of “technic beams”, which is a stud less type of the classic technic beams. Hope it helps:)🙏🏼
