Slight problem with older vehicles... They can't turn on the spot. When they turned, they had a turning circle, because the engineers hadn't yet figured out if you spin 1 track backwards, you can turn in place. Also, the inside of a Mark 4 was hell. Literally. Average temperature exceeded 60°C, because the engine compartment and the crew compartment were, well... the same compartment. It also didn't have suspension. So you can imagine what traversing a trench was actually like. Imagine. The shock from landing after crossing. Knocking you into a wall, knocking you out. Or even knocking you onto the engine, scalding you.
@Versa__Vice7 жыл бұрын
Doctor Doubt how about a Renault with similar conditions and the commander kicks the driver in the head or back to signal him?
@DarkThunderism7 жыл бұрын
Brick Boy763 Implying that didn't happen in the Mark 4? The Mark 4 took 4 people to drive it. And they signalled by kicking each other. The upside of the Renault FT is that it only had 3 people in it, instead of 8 and the engine was actually in its own compartment. Which means that temperatures thankfully weren't as high. And the Renault FT had suspension, so that's a plus. If I had to choose, I'd much rather be in an FT. Author's note: It might have only had 2 crew members.
@Versa__Vice7 жыл бұрын
Doctor Doubt yeah but still both aren't no carnival ride and yeah it was 2 not 3

There’s a funny story from when they were demonstrating the Mark 1 for the King. The tank was filmed going up over a steep incline and coming crashing down on the other side after which about half the crew got out of the tank to stand in front of it for inspection. The other half were still in the tank having been knocked unconscious due to the lack of suspension.

Seeing that little guy on your Legos brought back such good memories of my little friend. I actually kept him in the same enclosure as my snake! Could you imagine being at the Somme as a German when these were first used and for several minutes among the rest of the battlefield noise you're hearing a strange unfamiliar grinding and churning metal sound. Then. a wave of these emerge from the mist and smoke in front of your line.

There is cool, and then there is some dude building a functional rc WW1 rhomboid tank out of Legos cool... That can operate on wifi... With secret attack critters... All joking aside, that is one of the coolest, and finest, Lego creations I have ever seen.
