This video will be the first of many (hopefully) showcasing the development and "evolution" of my LEGO strandbeests. I hope to improve them in future generations, but if you would like individual videos that go more in-depth on the strandbeests, let me know!

Probably there will be someone who will wonder about the strange footprints in the sand :) Jokes aside, it's really impressive how you managed to make the Strandbeest so smooth that the wind is actually enough to power it
@redshoebox2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Keep in mind both strandbeests are geared down 1:25, so when you multiply the wind's strength by that much, it isn't hard to get even a large walker going. The smooth gait of the feet does help, however. The more halting and bumping, the less efficient it is.
@in12 жыл бұрын
@@redshoebox Yeah, when I tried around with that, the wind wasn't even enough to turn the gears even without anything connected to them, probably because of my propeller parts.

Imagine setting a squad of these up perfectly aligned and letting them run loose across the beach as far as possible and just watching people’s reactions as it goes by…maybe a gopro on it would help with “anti-theft/tampering”

This is really COOL!!! I have made many Lego strandbeests but never one using wind power. I am keenly interested in getting or making building instructions, given enough still pictures. I would like to see more of the framework that holds everything together.

In the future, I plan to make a video showcasing both strandbeests in more detail. Until I release such a video, if you would like to build the small one, you can check out the following video that it was derived from: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHa9dHuvZaeNi6M

@@redshoebox I already made building instructions & built the small one. I was hoping for still pictures or more indepth video. Is there a way to email on KZbin?
@redshoebox Жыл бұрын
I have a pretty inactive discord server where I can send you detailed pictures of the strandbeests here: discord.gg/kZstya8B. I unfortunately don't have an email dedicated for questions, so until I publish a video of the strandbeests, the discord server would be the best method. Sorry!

How can the legs keep moving when the propeller stands still? Or have I seen this wrong? Yes, I would like a video on how these were developed.
@redshoebox2 жыл бұрын
The propeller appears to be still but this is due to the fps of the camera lining up with the rpm of the fan. In reality the fan is still spinning.

depending on the dialect, "strandbeest" directly translates to "beachmonster" or beachanimal" from dutch nice video and i cant wait for future strandbeests videos! perhaps you can make it unidirectional by using a vertical axis windmill?

For these strandbeests, there are no dedicated instructions at the moment. I modified the small strandbeest off of the following video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHa9dHuvZaeNi6M, but the big one is completely original and there will instructions for it later. I'm planning to post more information and instructions on my website, but for the moment this is all there is. Sorry!

This is so incredible. I've watched it a few times and it is still just as fascinating. It seems like the amount of moving parts would result in friction being too high for it to work. What is the minimum wind speed for the strandbeest to get moving and stay moving?
@redshoebox2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! In terms of wind, the strandbeest can run off relatively slow wind, but the wind needs to be consistent. Due to the 1:25 gearing, it does not take much for the blades to get going, they work just fine off household fans too.
Why do they look fake. But I know they aren’t. Atleast I hope so lol. Nice vid
@redshoebox2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! They are not fake, but the wind blades "hovering" and staying still while the strandbeest moves might make it appear so. This is due to the fps and rpm of the blades lining up occasionally.
