Abhijeet was my favourite singer in the 90's and after that it was Udit Narayan & Kumar Sanu. But he suddenly disappeared after few years and I used to always wonder what happened to him. It was nice to hear him talk in this interview but I feel the interviewer could have asked him more detailed questions on what was the reason he disappeared.

In all his concerts, he sings a lot of immortal R D.Burman composed songs originally sung by Kishore Kumar and to his credit sings very well. He also after 90's sang again under R.D's baton in Bengali films etc which were hits. It is also a fact that Jatin Lalit who were associated with R.D.Burman filled up his void as Abhijeet claims with melodic compositions. Ravindra Jain was also a great composer and it is sad he could not gel with A.R.Rahman , who is a champion composer. Though there are unbelievable talented superb composers in Bollywood, each splendid in their pwn way ,the trendsetters were Naushad, Shankar Jaikishan, R.D.Burman and finally A.R.Rahman. Another unique composer, who is a world class composer is Illayaraja , though he did not compose much for Bollywood. Then we also had brilliant maestros like Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji, Jaidev, O..P. Nayyar, Roshan, S.D.Burman , Salil Chaudhury to name a few. But honestly, even today 2 composers have really passed the test of time , the supreme Madan Mohan and the unbelievably versatile R.D.Burman whose compositions are as popular today as it was earlier. Amongst the living it is A.R.Rahman

@@kartik6110 Thanks for the pertinent question. Let me kindly assure you that all Bollywood composers have adapted from other sources. Shankar Jaikishan, O.P.Nayyar, C.Ramchandra, Salil Chaudhury, S.D.Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji , R.D.Burman etc all have adapted. But upto Rajesh Roshan the composers used to adapt a part and then elaborate the composition with their own piece of music. In fact that actually is done worldwide and is known as sampling. R.D.Burman particularly always sampled a few lines or a piece of music and then added his own prelude,interludes and matching antara( which is a quite difficult task) , added his own rhythm patterns and chords and most often excelled and made it better than the original. Artists all over the world get inspired and try to add their own to the inspiration to create something wonderful. Apart from that , kindly also note that Producers, Directors and even actors many a times force a music director to sample from a particular song they like and in the commercial world , one has to comply to exist. For example it is well known that Ramesh Sippy insisted that Sholay has a song based on Say you love me by Demis Rousseau. R.D.Burman added a great prelude , interludes and composed a matching antara on his own, added Iranian Santoor pieces, changed the rhythm completely using off beat and today Mehbooba Mehbooba is as if not more popular in the world with many Foreign bands playing it or singing it ( Say you love me does not have any antara- in fact Western songs do not have antara.) Interestingly, Demis Rousseau himself adapted the song , Say you love me from a Cyprus folklore song known as Ta Rialia and that is not his original composition at all. Nowadays the composers blatantly lift and most of the time it is not half as good as the original. Another important information- in recent past Apple commercials have adapted R.D.Burman's prelude music from Teri Nazar Hai Mujhpe of the film, The Burning Train for I phone X and the composer Pete Cannon conceded that he took the piece from R.D.Burman and later for another commercial strains of Dum Maro Dum. Heineken Deja Vu commercial just copied pasted R.D.Burman's Dance music from the 1970 movie , Hare Rama Hare Krishna. You will also be surprised to note that the famous James Bond theme music is adapted from an Indian folk song. So let us think of the gems the retro composers have composed because at most 10 to 15 % of their music is partially sourced from other sources
