Based on my experience with my 28-70mm f/2.8 and my 75-150mm f/3.5 Nikon zoom lenses, I knew that a 75mm focal length prime lens was not long enough for my needs. Therefore, I purchased the Leitz 90mm f/2 for my Leica M6. I have been very pleased with my 90mm.

I chose the 90 over the 75 because pre-Leica my favourite portrait lens was 85 mm (and 42.5 in micro four-thirds). It's a beautiful lens, but I have yet to seriously put it to the test because of the lockdown. I have high hopes for it.

They’re easily some of the best lenses I’ve ever used, enjoy!

You left for Canon why not grab the SL2-S vs the canon r5

A very helpful (and honest review) review, especially paired with your review of the SL. I have a Q currently and want to get into the SL system; like all things Leica, its not perfect but my kit is only used for non-professional work and so I can at least overlook quirks (the Q occasionally will remain powered on with the switch in the off position for example). For portraits I have previously used and loved the Nikkor 85mm F1.4G and still have a Nikkor 200mm F2 and love the shallow DOF of both so I was tempted by the 90 but like the idea of something a bit wider but longer than a 50. the 28 on the Q and the 75 on the SL sounds like an interesting combination.

I just picked up the 90mm and its an absolutely amazing lens, this review is spot on, one thing Ive noticed is the separation with this lens is absolutely amazing.. For a portrait lens, I personally dont know if there is another lens that compares. He mentioned the 75 but I havent tried that, Im actually picking up the .95 noctilux next and looking forward to what that lens offers.. The 50 summilux is already such a great lens but hoping for a different look.

@@CryoftheProphet I know that 90 is an all star. My next SL lens will be the 35/f2. After that the trilogy. That alone is $15-16K. Pockets need CPR indeed :-)

@@rumporridge1 My logic was like this.. I knew I wanted a telephoto, so the 90-280 had to happen, besides is the only real option from Leica. I can swing not getting the 24-90 because I have a few primes in that range, and the 90cron for the SL is my portrait lens of all time, the 50 lux is an absolute dream of a lens. Ill probably just get some zeiss or sigma glass for the wider lenses since I dont really shoot it that often, but leica glass for sure where it counts.. The 90-280 is an absolute unit, easily the greatest telephoto you can currently buy.. Id love to see Leica spit out a few longer focal lengths eventually, the SL lineup really needs to be their focus moving forward, they already destroy the competition, and maybe if they could swing a noctilux for the native L mount just to show the competition how its done.. Needless to say, it cost me over 25k in sold sony gear to fund this and Im honestly not complaining.. Not one bit, leica images have no equal, I stand by that..

@@CryoftheProphet Brother on this Good Friday night I would be buying you a beer. We are on the same page indeed. I sold my entire Canon kit to fund the SL2 and a 75mm APO. I actually thought about getting the 35mm f2 but found a pristine used Q-P (strap was new too). So that takes care of my wide angle needs. The 90-280 you mentioned is definitely on my short list. I agree that it’s the best telephoto zoom ever made.
