Bang on the money again, Karl. Personally, I am the dreaded stereotype, dentist with Leica cameras. And I don't apologize for it. It is my only vice, gives me enormous pleasure, and if it annoys people, I seriously couldn't care less. I've arrived here via Canon, Lumix, Olympus, and Fujifilm. If nothing else, the build quality is so far better than other brands, it is mind blowing. So, I tape up my logos, and enjoy myself. Smile and wave, boys.

I'm not too comfortable with the revers snobbery of paying 15k quid for a camera and then put sticky tape all over it to signal something rather ambiguous. There's one unbeatable virtue of Leicas and that's simplicity. End of. It's funny you have to pay so much just to get that. I used an M4 and a Nikon F in the 70s and made a lot of pictures that are now getting a lot of recognition. Lately, I've done a lot of work with digital cameras and most of the times I've got decent results but the ratio of keepers has reduced dramatically. I've used Fuji X-Pros which are the nearest imitation and I find myself fighting with the cameras most of the time when they throw at me a mass of digital gimmicks I could never use. I carry my cameras in a side bag for street work and every time I pull the camera out some little wheel or knob gets knocked and you end up with something you didn't mean. Why not having a, say, 3 stage menu where you can have basics settings like a Leica on stage one and disable all the rest of the technology? Incidentally, most X-Pro owners I know use the EVF instead of the OVF, which makes them as much of a show off as Leica carriers.

This whole video is basically what I've been trying to say for a while now. Thank you! I love the quote, "Price is what you pay for something. Value is what you get." I've been able to afford an M6 for some time, but haven't felt the need to buy one. The thing is, I didn't need one. I had fun, generated $$, and did so much with what I had, but there came a time when I wanted to treat myself for all the hard work. Mission accomplished. The last year+ with my M6 has been delightful and, wait for it... fun.

Right on. I bought a Q2 Monochrom because I love B&W and what the heck. That camera quickly turned me into a Leica Fanboy. I have added an SL2-S, and am eagerly awaiting an M6. These cameras are so sensuously crafted, it is a joy to take photos with them. I ave a bunch of digital cameras (including a GFX 100S) which I use all the time but none of them make me smile like the Q2M.

I don’t want or hate a Leica but I do enjoy watching the history of Leica and the photographers who use them. Being a watch collector Leica reminds me of a Rolex. Is it high end ? Yes! Is it a bit overpriced? Sure! It doesn’t tell time any better than a Casio but it has history and prestige. So I get the love affair for them they just aren’t for me.

Thanks for the comment! As I said in the video it's not entirely fair to call Leica cameras overpriced as value is really only determined by the person making the purchase "after" the fact. They're definitely expensive but you could make a case that you get what you pay for with Leica gear!

You made some good points here. I’m somewhat indifferent to Leica in my own mind. As an outsider, there are two things I find strange about Leica however. One is that both the brands lovers and haters always compare Leica to cheaper alternatives rather than equivalently priced options. As though an individual might seriously be looking in both price ranges. It seems more likely you’d be looking at two equally priced options. 2nd, and this is more of a personal irk is just the advertising. It always seems based in the historic significance. When you consider Hasselblad and DJI, it’s seems entirely fair to be sceptical about whether past achievements really still represent the company’s values. At least at a “product by product” level. Idk, if the buyer is happy, and out enjoying taking photos. Does it really matter what the brand or what they payed? There’s an unfortunate amount of brand loyalty/competition in photography and I think it can subtract from actually taking photos at times.

While I use a digital Leica (Leica M10), I have noticed the hate towards Leica and the owners since I became an owner of one 3 months ago. Mostly from the hardcore Canon and Sony users who have never experienced a different system other than modern mirrorless. They don’t understand that using a rangefinder is about getting a more pure shooting experience. I have never been so happy and gotten so much joy from using any other camera. And unlike those haters, I have experienced different systems in my short photography journey. To me the $4,200 I paid for my used Leica M10 was worth every penny and every time I use it it just reassures me that I made the right decision in buying it. The funny part is that I was choosing between a Sony A7RIV with 2 G Master lenses or a Leica M10 with a Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 II. I remembered my experience with the Sony A7III and I still vividly recall that I didn’t particularly enjoy my time with it. I knew it would be exactly the same thing if I were to go with the Sony A7RIV and while it may be a highly advanced camera, the shooting experience is what matters to me the most. When it comes to modern digital cameras outside of Leica, Micro Four Thirds is what gives me the enjoyable shooting experience. I originally started with micro four thirds, went to Sony full frame, I didn’t particularly enjoy it despite it being a very good camera, sold it, went back to micro four thirds, and now have a Leica M10 to go with my Lumix G9 and Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III. To me shooting experience is top of the list when it comes to what camera I’m buying. Modern canon and Sony full frame do not give me the experience I want. It’s way too easy to get a good shot with modern full frame cameras from Canon, Sony, and Nikon. I cannot stress enough how lazy I got when I used a Sony A7III. All the experience and techniques I developed from using an inferior system like micro four thirds were abandoned and almost forgotten during my time with the Sony A7III. Even my editing process and skills suffered as a result. Once I sold the Sony and went back to a Lumix G9 I somewhat had to relearn everything but was happy with the shooting experience. After 7 months of being back to micro four thirds I had a budget of $5,000 and that ultimately led me to get the Leica M10 with the voigtlander 35mm f/1.4. That camera is the best purchase I’ve ever made and will never feel sorry, apologize, nor regret my decision to buy it. It was worth absolutely every penny because it was the shooting experience that my heart always wanted. That’s what matters to me the most and that’s why it was worth every penny. Now I may go for a new Leica M10-R in a few months as my M10 definitely shows a lot of wear and that’s why I got it so “cheap”, but I’ll keep it as my everyday carry once I get the M10-R because it’s my first Leica and I don’t think I can get rid of my first Leica M camera.

Leica liker here, and owner of legacy cameras and lenses. Speaking of price and value - I would not be able to get the value out of lets say a Leica M11 considering the price tag. But I am very happy for everybody who buys new Leicas. And I am celebrating Leica for still offering film cameras and releasing the new M6. In addition I really admire Dr. Andreas Kaufmann who saved and repositioned Leica. Interviews can be found here on YT. Happy shooting!

I'm the third type: From auto white balance and exposure issues, to not really being able to see the range finder patch in low light, and low quality screens. It's just not for me and my style of shooting. I like the camera to get out of my way. I would consider getting a Leica Q2 or the old CL digital compact, but I would need them to meet the absolute minimum deal breakers for streamlined photography. Range finders look fun though, and I might have one to use in circumstances where I'm zone focusing at tight apertures, or not to worried about nailing critical anything for the photo and just going for sort of a vibe. I'd definitely shoot it at f5.6 or f8, set and forget everything else and make it a big old point and shoot. *Everyone should do limited edition versions of their cameras. The Ricoh GRIII street edition was amazing. Fujifilm's Durasilver was amazing. That new Q2 Ghost looks amazing.

As a Leica MP shooter, I find there is also subsets of haters within the Leica shooting community. Seems like there is a rift between Leica MP shooter and shooters of othere Leica film cameras. Maybe it doesnt help that I tell my Leica M3 friends that MP is short for "mechanical perfection." So the other rift in the Leica community is between film and digital Leica shooters, which is a rehash of the film versus digital arugument. Oh well. I do love my MP 🙂

Sure, my Bessa R has a better viewfinder AND a light meter, and My X-PRO2 can do a million things the Leica can't, but there's something about holding and shooting with the M2 that just makes the world feel a better place for a while. I waited for years to buy it but I don't care what anyone else thinks; I bought it for me. It's simple to operate but beautifully crafted and makes wonderful pictures. A true camera for life.

They are a few generations old, but take "Beautiful pictures." I just bought a Leica Q3. Also takes beautiful pictures, but a completely different animal. I've been thinking a bit lately and I think it comes down to this: Leica cameras are highly specialised tools. Highly specialised tools are pricy. Always have been. Just look at the highest end sports cameras or high end medium format cameras. Leica aren't that expensive when you consider those. The problem is that people don't understand the particular specialisation Leica is doing. With sports cameras or medium format cameras they see the many features and impressive technology and feel that justified the cost. But Leica specialisation doesn't come in that same feature list and tech form. I think Leica can be summed up as follows: 1. unique actual rangefinder system for focusing and framing. 2. incredibly compact full frame system Nobody else have those combination of attributes. For many kinds of photography they can be advantageous. For the record: only ever held a Leica in my hand for about a minute. I actually think I might really like it. I'm not a professional photographer though, so just like it doesn't make sense for me to get a Sony A9 with a ridiculous sports lens or a PhaseOne medium format camera, it doesn't make sense to get for me to get a specialised tool like an Leica. It seems like the right tool for you though. (I'm taking about Leica M here by the way) Thanks for making the video!

I use to be a Leica hater thinking what’s the point of buying a overpriced box with a button on top. After owning an m6 Ill admit I was wrong and understood its philosophy and legacy. Your car analogy makes perfect sense. Some people will buy a old Ferrari or Porsche with the same hp as a new Honda Civic because of its history, design, etc. Those concerned about performance would buy a newer one instead.

I'm not a Leica "hater", in fact I don't hate any camera. However at 65 and having been a photographer since my late teens and used dozens (maybe hundreds) of cameras down the years, my opinion is.... Well first let me clarify. I've had four Leica's, a 1c and an M6, but it's the other two I want to talk about. Back around 2012 I had too many cameras and lenses so decided I wanted to get back to basics with one body and 3 primes. Leica had brought out the full frame M9 so I went for that plus a 28mm, 50mm and 90mm. I took the brand new M9 out of the box and did some test shots expecting to see some razor sharp images. They were soft! So I set up a test with a row of clothes pegs and discovered the rangefinder was off. This was confirmed by the technician when I brought it back to the shop which meant the camera would have to go back to Germany. They hadn't got another M9 in stock so loaned me an M8. But the M8 was a crop sensor which meant I hadn't got a true wide angle. They also gave me some center grad filters because the M8 had a metering issue?? So the camera I paid €6,300 for body only was faulty out of the box, something I've never experienced on any camera costing any price before or since. As time rolled on I began thinking about other things I didn't like about the M9, the way the rear screen couldn't be viewed in anything but subdued light, or the painfully slow recall of the image if "chimping". After three months of waiting I went back to the camera shop and they gave me a credit note for the full amount. I tried out the Fuji X-Pro 1 and immediately fell in love with it, which in my opinion was way better than the M9. I also got some Fuji lenses to go along with it and still had loads of money to spare. However I held onto the three Leica lenses with the idea of using them with an adapter because they're Leica, right? Not really, because I found when comparing that the Fuji lenses performed just as well so I eventually sold them off. So my thoughts on Leica is this. Yes they produced some long lasting quality cameras and lenses down the years (for a hefty price!), but they absolutely dropped the ball when digital came along. They are also waaaaay overpriced and there are plenty of other cameras out there now that perform just as good for way less money. I don't "hate" Leica cameras, but I think there's an element of "emperors new clothes" surrounding them and that when people pay BIG money for a camera they tend to love them and ignore any criticism because....they paid big money for them so they're going to learn to love them ("it HAS to be great because it cost so much right?") My go to cameras for image quality now would be the Fuji GFX 50r in digital or the Mamiya c330 for film, both bigger than a Leica obviously but both would blow Leica away for both image quality and price, and if I want to go smaller I'd take my Fuji X-T1 or Nikon FM. Just my two cents and I'll probably be classed as a Leica hater which I'm not, I just wouldn't buy one again?
@karledwards

Thansk for your comment. The idea that they're "waaaay overpriced and there are plenty of other cameras out there now that perform just as good for way less money" is covered in detail in the video. ;) It's really just another way of disguising the anti-Leica sentiment as a statement of common sense. My point is simply that the Leica M series (rangerfinders) offers a way of working that no other camera replicates. It might not be important to every photographer but definitely works for some!

Thanks for the comment! As i said in the video I don't agree that it's overpriced - a term that implies its price is greater than its value. We're not just paying for a style of shooting - these are hand made precision instruments that are built like tanks. For me they're worth the price. :)

@@karledwards well we can agree to disagree I think its still overpriced for the bodies alone at the end of the day it is a box if we are talking about digital then at the end of the day its just a sensor that is easily out performed by everyone what they are really selling you is the rangefinder experience which i agree is unique but if another company would make a rangefinder for half the price im sure everyone would immediately flock over now if we are talking about the lenses thats a whole other topic since most people are talking about the bodies and not the lenses the lenses are amazing adn worth the price in my opinion

@@Hackzyyz Yup, I agree to disagree. But I have to say that you're basically mirroring the same arguments any Leica hater would make. "It's just a box" "Any other camera does the same or better for less money.." I've heard it all before... :) To say its overpriced is to say the price is greater than the value. But as I said in the video, value is a relationship that exists betweeen the consumer and the product the have purchased. This is not something that can logically be assigned as a blanket statement. Leica cameras and lenses are definitely expensive but that doesn't equate to being "overpirced". I'm also not so sure most people are talking about the bodies. Again, this sounds like a rationalization determined to paint the Leica user are irrational. Leica as a brand exists as the pairing between its bodies and lenses. And I'm not sure anyone would think a camera body itself would change the final image. It's much more about the experience of shooting with a high quality tool... Thanks for the comment though! :)

Enjoy your presentation. Lifestyle. Thats what I tell folks at work (I'm a working man) when they ask why I would purchase a Leica. And I go on, look at me do I look like a Harley owner? This generally gives them pause for thoughts and I then remind them I am a photographer, it's my passion, obsession, and I love photographing with my digital Leica's, the SL2-S and the M240. Having said that, I will say I do love photographing with film as well. Problem is, I have all kinds of film cameras and it's because I just love the mechanics, sound, feel, the tactile operations from start to finish of old film cameras. And then again, maybe, I am just biased because I grew up during the age of film. With that, my two steadies are the 1984 Leica M6 and the Leica M-A. Those who criticize Leica does not make them "Leica haters." Let's put this way, if I show you five photos without telling you if these were taken by a Leica, can you tell which photo(s) were taken by a Leica? If not, it means it doesn't matter what equipment that one uses because it's the person behind the camera that matters. Without unique vision and personal sensitivity, a Leica does not make one a great photographer. Anyone who thinks that a Leica makes him a great photographer, he is clueless about photography. Leica liker here! ha ha! I am not in the 'wealthy' demographic (university professor - so not poor by any means, but not rich). I owned an M8 and now own an M9. Sure, they cost more than comparable 'high end' cameras of the same era (Canon 5D etc.), but as you say, I chose the Leica for subjective reasons - I have to use it, so I choose what suits my preferences and use case. My Leica is small, has great lenses, and is unobtrusive in public, and I love the way I interact with it (rangefinder, manual settings), not to mention it produces great quality images. I also own a Fuji X100T - I also love that! If I could afford an M11, or a new M6, I guess I would buy it. I can't afford them - but I don't hate the cameras for that, or the people that can afford to buy them. Thanks for a great video!

Photography is about the resulting photo, it doesn't matter what tool you use to achieve that result. Any camera that gives you pleasure while using is the right one for you. If it happens to be a Leica so be it. Some Leica afficionados (users or wanna have) arguments are also just copy-paste B.S from each other. And yes, I truly love Leica, I could afford it but chose to go with another brand because I always choose the right tool at X moment to do Y. But I hope to buy one or two one day. Why? Cause it's a damn well made, sexy and attractive tool! And also because I want people to think I'm a rich and good photographer.

i recently got my hands on an M6. Made the decision in a split second when i compared the M6 rangefinder with the Canonet QL17 G3 that i was using; the difference in clarity of the patch was night and day! Also the light meter pointing the direction you need to turn the aperture felt second nature as soon as i used the camera. These don't sound like a lot to shell out $2800 for a 3rd or a 4th hand camera, but to me it just made sense. Fun part, i don't have buyers remorse (yet) and i have been carrying this camera and shooting it ever since i bought it. Every part of the camera is refined and a joy to use, The film advance crank is butter smooth, the frame counter looks splendid, the camera feels sooo good to hold. Its a luxury item and i think i am going to click a lot of more bad pictures on film than i have been doing for the last 4 years.

I compared the M6 with my Fuji gs645s, I strongly recommend folks to try the gs 645, the rangefinder is not as good as the M6 but still very usable, the widest aperture on the fixed lens (close to 35mm on ff) is f4 and the build quality is not as nice as a leica. It costs a fraction and you get the resolution of medium format. I am now trying to bulk load 120 from 70mm spool film to use this camera in an affordable way.

Great video, I mean on point on most of „haters”. But I feel like Leica might not be for me. I want and could afford one... but then here it comes: parallax issues, no corners in viewfinder frames, M6 lightmeter works only when cocked. It’s just not for my style of shooting. I know I would love one, despite its flaws, because it’s a mechanical masterpiece. But my pet peeve is most Leica articles/videos omit those facts, while in fact every tool has it’s cons.
@karledwards
@karledwards Жыл бұрын
Not sure it's an omission to not cover facts that don't come up under most shooting situations. The rangefinder system is far from perfect but the advantages far outweigh the lack of frame accuracy at closer distances (at least for me...) It's all about the psychology of the frame so I'm not afraid to clean up the edges when needed. As for the M6 light meter only working when cocked... That was a battery saving measure that's not present in the MP (which is essential the same as the latest revision of the M6.) This being said most Leica shooters aren't metering per shot and instead meter for the lighting in the environment so it doesn't come up that often.

I’m in the later group. I don’t care what gear others are using. I am a hobbyist. I know the gear I use will not make me a better photographer. Too bad. It is about seeing and using the features your gear has to the greatest advantage. Does Leica gear cost a lot? You know it does. Maybe the quality proposition is there. Maybe industrial design works for you. I don’t need the best in anything other than a physician or surgeon if I’m in need of healthcare. I hope never to have charges against me that requires my appearance in court. Again, having the best legal counsel may save the day. This does not translate to my use case of camera gear. I buy used. So I’m not using the latest and greatest. I use APSC and micro 43 bodies. They make sense for my use case. I’ve used Leicas on loan when on camera store photo walks. During the short periods I’ve used the gear I haven’t been impressed by the output I produced. Yes, too brief a period to make a statement about the quality of the gear. I can say using the gear briefly hasn’t made me want to purchase a Leica. I do not hate Leica. Most of my photography heroes used Leicas. That says something. None the less, the enjoyment of my hobby will not be enhanced by my using a Leica. A part of me wants to purchase a Leica. I will retire in a couple of months and will be on a fixed income. I don’t see a big ticket photography purchase in my future. For me, enough is enough. The gear I have is smarter than I am. I don’t use all the features build into these light capturing machine. The new models are getting better. I am happy with my two to five year old gear. I am satisfied with the results I achieve. My money is better spent on taking workshops and reading books than purchasing better equipment. For those that fell you need a Leica, you probably do. I don’t feel the need for a Leica. I can use my gear and purchase a red sticker to place on the body. I can make believe I am using a Leica and I am a better photographer than I am. Some day I may have the feeling I need to make the Leica purchase. Not now. God bless those who make that decision. Mask On Nurse Marty

I get a certain amount of judgement for owning two Lexuses, one of which is only a couple of years old. Oddly enough, that judgement comes from a very similar set of demographics as Leica haters. I bought them because they’re going to last me a very long time, they make driving an enjoyable experience, and one of them is basically a Land Cruiser in fancy dress 🤣 I imagine having a Leica is about like that. I’ve been so close to buying one many times, but I look at the price and see how much good I can do for my business and how much return I can bring home with that same money invested into gear for the business, and practicality has (up to now) won out. I often wonder if I had the chance to get some hands on experience with one it might make pulling the trigger on picking one up a little easier, but I’ve just never had (or rather, allowed myself) the opportunity.

I believe that the current prices for analogue models are still correct and affordable (I won't say the same for digital). With care and service they will last forever. They also each started out as being expensive but affordable and have evolved to luxury brands because capitalism. (Some owner don't even drive then (Petrol states) , they were bought for status.Not saying all LEICA photographer buy for status only but most LEICA sold are for status.

It's all of the above. Leica telegraphs the status ...which is not actually warranted. It was definitely earned during the film era...MUCH less so in the digital realm. Leica rides the rep like Rolex does. Not sure if it pure economic envy since Leica's are not THAT expensive...compared to the difference in cars. Absolutely anyone can own Leica's with just a little discipline...anyone. My good friend has the Leica M...we switched for a month. I swapped out my Sony A7RIV and a few Sony prime GM's...he did the same...not as deep with lenses...but no matter. We both enjoyed each others cameras...both wanted ours back...which is probably just human behavioral bias. I say that because a few months later...my friend bought the Sony A7RIV for a trip to Africa. He liked the body all right...but the glass drove him over the deep end ( I know...shocking blasphemy). But that's the dirty little secret today...the glass from Sony is just as good as Leica's...and for the same money...my friend went with 5 lenses...instead of his two Leica's. It works both ways. The digital Leica isn't the film Leica. It's mostly all reputation now. Still great...but nothing special anymore...not like it was.

Thanks for the comment but I'm not sure I agree with you on a couple of points - To say Sony glass is as good as Leica glass is completely subjective Different lenses in each manufacturer's lineup will render the scene differently and the "better" lens will always come down to preference. And when it comes to Leica M glass you definitely have to take size into consideration as well. And I think this is a huge consideration for a lot of photographers especially in the street / documentary world. The ability/desire to take 5 huge Sony lenses with you is one thing but having more for the same amount of money doesn't make it better. Really comes down to shooting preference at that point and how each photographer prefers to work.

@@karledwards As for the glass, I can only go by optical tests. Sony has some 'perfect' lenses...and much more bells and whistles on them...on the extreme cheap compared to Leica. Oh sure, Sony has a lot of good to average glass (usually by gen level outputs...which Sony keeps updating)...but Sony has 'perfect' glass where it counts...certainly against any Leica lens ever made. As for the trip to Africa...of course he took all of his lenses. But yes, street photography is a niche that Leica competes very well in. But we all know that is now completely taken over by cellphones...with no slow down in sight. Getting into micro 4/3rd's territory now....trying to hang on to a niche category of photography...which is shrinking overall. Oh, Leica will prosper...in the same way Rolex does...it's really a status symbol...it certainly isn't a tech symbol.

@@JACKnJESUS Again, saying Sony has "perfect" glass where it counts is just another way of saying "other cameras do a similar or better job for less money". This is one of the fundamental arguments that all Leica haters use in an attempt to prove the brand is somehow flawed. I actually cover this tactic in the video... LOL! But apart from that shooting test charts can measure sharpness and other factors but the results never describe the character of the lens. If you like the look that your "perfect" Sony lens provides for you then you're set! But that simply doesn't work for everyone. As for cell phones taking over street photography? I totally disagree with this statement. It may be that you're trying to pigeonhole street photography as something that "anyone can do" with "any gear" and while that's fundamentally true it's really a matter of usability. People may be using camera phones more and more but they lack the basic camera workflow that many photographers rely on to get the job done. Not to mention that the tiny sensor with fixed aperture has limitations that quickly limit the usefulness for a lot of photogs. My phone is with me pretty much all the time and I wouldn't hesitate to use it if I didn't have another camera with me. But I'd never deliberately reach for that over my full size gear. Can't speak for everyone though!

@@karledwards I'm just saying back to my original point...Leica during the film era had that special sauce...not so much today. I can slap on my Voigt 65mm apo and go toe to toe with any color Leica camera setup. My friend found that much out by direct comparison. You get a heck of a lot more options with the Sony line...and with post processing...well...where the rubber meets the road today. Color profiles are a slider away today. I get the appeal...I do. I enjoyed using one for a while...but I don't miss it. Now I will say the monochrome Leica is special...very. That is something I would drop coin for. Color Leica's...not so much. But I get it.

@@JACKnJESUS Going toe to toe is entirely dependant on your perception and expectation though. Like I said in the video, the "other brands do the same thing or better for less money" is not an iron clad indictment of the brand. But definitely reflects your preference. I've also heard the idea that Leica was innovative back in the film days before releasing any digital cameras. As if Leica somehow lost their mojo for continuing to create cameras that use the same lens system as their film counterparts. While I don't entire agree (the M9 when released was the smallest digital full frame camera on the market) I'm not sure camera company needs to be innovative in order to create excellent usable products LOL! Recent M releases build on that legacy rather than reinvent it. And I'd argue the large percentage of Leica customers buy into the system for that very reason. Might not be for everyone but that's exactly why there's choice in the market. Thanks again for the comments. It's clear you're very passionate about your point of view. As you are about having the last word on the subject. ;)

What can one say to Leica haters out there? I remember in the 50’s-60’s there were Chevy ppl and there were Ford ppl neither could understand what the other saw in their cars. My first 35mm camera was a Nikon F, then a Nikon F2 which I still own. Always wanted to try a Leica M3 or M2 but then Leica quit making them. Sometime in the 70’s I bought a used M2 with a 50mm Sumilux and 90mm Tele Elmarit and started using it. Since then my Nikon F2 has been collecting dust. Since then bought an M3 and another M2 plus lenses. Leica M’s aren’t for everyone, it’ll depend on what you like in photography. For me it’s been a perfect fit. Would I buy a new Leica? As long as my M2’s and M3 work I don’t see the need. If I were to though I would get the MA

I guess I should add to my comments….. there are film ppl and then there are digital ppl. Being a film person I am well satisfied with my M3 and M2’s. Some years ago bought a Leica IIIa as part of my Leica Barnack collection…..recently dusted it off and started shooting it….. totally different experience….really loved it but sending it in for an CLA and will use it more.
