Thanks for this - really helpful description of the differences between these cameras.

Hey Dan, I’ve purchased 3 cameras from you, two last year and one this year. MM246 Monochrom, M6 classic, and the latest a M5. Very happy with everything. Tell Ernie “hi”

Great as always, I have learned if I switch my M6 classic to bulb it functions the same as an off switch. I've killed a few batteries before figuring that out.

I have both the M10 and the M Monochrom (246). Just got the call today that my MP is on the way! So excited!

Funny that the major difference between M6 and MP was only mentioned in a side sentence - the often cumbersome patch flare was finally removed fully in the MP. This is actually the main difference and advantage of the MP over the M6. The M6 can be upgraded with a MP rangefinder patch, but it is expensive. Later M7 models also use the MP rangefinder patch avoiding the flare. Using my M6 classic since 6 years now, the patch flare is the only complaint I have with this camera.
@AndrejsZavadskis2 жыл бұрын
what is "cumbersome patch flare" ?
@andyp11704 ай бұрын
I was wondering whether this patch flare was removed or fixed in the new 2022 M6? Thanks
@MB-or8js4 ай бұрын
@@andyp1170 Yes - the new M6 uses the same patch as in the MP. This and newer electronics for the meter system are the only benefits.

Does the mp have the same ttl flash metering that the m6 ttl has?
@thebarnackhour18722 жыл бұрын
It is our understanding that the modern MP camera has the same flash capability as the M6 TTL

2:48 --> if classic M6 is in Bulb settings, it should not activate the light meter, with or without shutter cocked.
@MB-or8js2 жыл бұрын
correct - wish this would have been more elaborated about in the video. It is possible though that current still flows then the shutter button is pressed even the light meter markings are not activated in B mode. I never heard or read about it, but this video implies this as an option.

Picked up the MP this afternoon. I am lucky that I don't have to wait. Last Friday I saw one in the shop and paid 10% deposit. Organised my finance in the weekend and bought it today. I am so happy that I got one in time. Rumours said that Leica will introduce a new film camera in October. Will the MP be replaced?

Good video, but i know I need to ask. If Mike Ditka was rewinding a roll of film, considering the sausage size of his fingers, which would be easier to use? The crank of the M6 or the knob style of the MP?
@thebarnackhour18722 жыл бұрын
hahahaha - MP rewind knob for sure!

Another interesting Barnack Hour - nice work. A suggestion when Keith can't be your co-host maybe a guest "co-host" photographer on zoom like the Phil Penman Zoom you presented. They can have a mini-presentation on their work and camera choice - could be a very interesting addition to some of the Barnack Hour episodes. Keep it short along with the other interesting topics presented.

Great info here! I’m in the market for an M6 TTL but been seeing information about bubbling on the top plate caused by a reaction in the zinc. I heard this issue was fixed in the production of later M6 TTL but can you confirm? Or are all M6 / M6 TTLs susceptible to this?
@denbeigh Жыл бұрын
I've seen ttl m6 with "chicken pox" but if you find one without it, I would assume it's safe from harm after all these years. I did hear the very last ttl's were brass but I can't confirm, it would be rare anyway. I've had an m4p with slight bubbling. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it's already popping up.
@isiahwarren_7072 жыл бұрын
If you put the non TTL m6 in bulb it does the same function as the TTL’s off button for the light meter
@thebarnackhour18722 жыл бұрын
Yes it does so long as the shutter is not wound!

What's a fair price for a great condition M6 ttl going for today?
@thebarnackhour18722 жыл бұрын
Depends on the details - and what you deem is fair to pay. Typically around $4000

Have you heard anything about the M6TTL not being serviceable anymore for metering specifically if you have an issue? I have read differing opinions, and am not sure if the 'TTL flash metering' is not serviceable, but that the traditional light metering is serviceable? Or, if it is an issue that affects both 'TTL flash metering' and traditional light meter?
@thebarnackhour18722 жыл бұрын
Yes we have heard of that but whether or not it can be fixed depends on the exact problem

11:36 With all due respect, Leica's functions don't come before their form and appearance. If it were only about the innards (value for dollars) every person watching would be shooting a Fuji GFX 100s or something. Leica is the Gucci or Hermes of cameras. Let's not sugarcoat that.

We want a M7-2, electronics that work and use USB-charging, instead of the difficult to get CR1/3 type batteries or over 12 LR44 per day. ;-)

There is no difference. They are all obscenely, ludicrously expensive. They do not make your photography better any more than a Rolex tells better time. Save your money and get a Contax or some such equivalent.

For me most important part of Leica is that I can use Summar, Summitar, Elmar and some other lenses that will give me unique look, that I cannot have with my Nikkor lenses. I prefer M3 of all M cameras. I agree your comment about the price, but lots of people have more than they need, and they like to have expensive, precise (and of course overpriced) equipment.
