Hi Matt. I usually bring 4 batteries for my M10. If I am going for a long day's shoot, I'll bring the Nitecore charger with a 20000mAH battery. I find the M240 batteries to last much longer than the M10 - insane. My discipline is always to stop once I reach 50% of the batteries' capacity and I switch to the next one. My rationale - trying to preserve the battery's shelf life as long as I can - hope I am right on that one. I do not use the Live View for street shooting. I use Live View for landscapes. I noticed that LV drains the battery rapidly.

Thanks Izzy! I see lots of negative reviews for this exact charger - doesn't fully charge, discharges if leave battery in charger, charges 1 battery then the 2nd not together.. I would be tempted but it sounds like it has issues. Yes for a full day I think 3 batteries is OK if drain to zero. I drain all batteries fully if I can. That's just me.

I get about 500 shots from my M10 and never use live view. I get about 600 shots from my SL2S using autofocus lens. Because of the way I use the cameras, I have 4 batteries for the SL2S and 2 batteries for the M10. No complaints about either camera. They are both a joy to use. And power is never an issue.

Hi Matt, had the exact same issue with buying an additional M10 battery, happened end of 2022, I’m guessing some store have had these batteries in stock for a long time and not having them hooked up to a charger in years has done detrimental damage (most people with an M10 already has their batteries so a lot is slow moving stock). Just return it and go to a Leica boutique instead and make sure you get one which hasn’t been sitting on the shelves for 3 years without being charged up, good luck!
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom11 ай бұрын

I agree with your view [06:30] that shooting with a rangefinder camera such as a Leica M will eventually help you see stronger compositions; it doesn't try to simulate the effect of a particular lens, so it doesn't lock you into any preconceptions and instead makes you rely on your imagination to decide what the final picture will look like. Of course some people do feel that's too much work! Incidentally, the real magic here isn't the rangefinder, but the direct optical viewfinder that goes with it… so, people who like the idea of direct viewing but don't think their eyesight is good enough to handle rangefinder focusing might want to consider a camera such as one of the Fuji X-Pros or X100s, which combine an optical viewfinder with AF…
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom11 ай бұрын
Thanks James! I think so.. you don't see all the sexy goodness while taking photos with nice lenses but that does help you focus on the photo framing/ composition.

Hi Matt, i think your battery problem, is down to the voltage of the new battery being lower then the threshold voltage needed for the battery charger to charge the battery. You would usually see the blinking amber light for a second before turning to a solid amber light. You will need to charge the new battery up in the camera for awhile if you can, then swap it over to the battery charger and hopefully this will recover the battery. I've come across this problem last month with a Nikon and Fuji battery, which haven't been charged in awhile. I hope this helps.
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom11 ай бұрын
Thank you! Much appreciated. The first 2 times I tried the charge ended with both lights blinking. I thought after maybe a little hair or something was shorting the circuit (guessing). I gave it a good blow and left it charging overnight. Success. It's charged to 100% (Very relieved as I bought it for a photo trip so I needed 2!)

The first part of this video was a great summary of my December! I went to short NYC trip before I flew out to Japan for two weeks then went home for the holidays and up to Toronto right after. It was the most extensive street photography trips, and month, since I had gotten my M240, and I was wearing that camera with a Voigtlander 35mm Nokton Classic SC in the front for the entire month almost every single day! I really do like your stealth setup as I was trying to do the same on my trips, so I will have to try that in the future to wear the camera under the jacket. I also wish I had purchased the Brightin Star 28mm before my trip to Japan, while the Nokton 35mm was a great walking around lens, I often found myself needed a bit more room in the frame, so a 28mm would be a better choice. For my short Toronto trip, I decided to live on the wild side and not bring my charger for my M240 and just have my two batteries. However, I managed to do two and a half day of photography (including a two hour model shoot) on a single battery!

Happy New Year. I have the m10r which is a little more power hungry than the 24mp versions and I get around 400 or so shots per charge on average. Auto review off, brightness on the lower side and sleep time at 2min. I don’t use live view often. if I’m in a fast paced environment where reaction speed is important then I set the camera at 10 minutes sleep as the start up time is not the quickest and then I need 2 batteries to be safe. If I use my fastest aperture lenses then I tend to use the visoflex and I need 3 batteries to be safe but have never used more than 2.

Thanks, yes she's new to modelling so was well up for a day of photos. I love this aspect of the job, meeting cool / creative people.

I expect 350-375 shots - but I have been using the Visoflex a fair bit with my M10-P so would expect +400 without. Being someone who learned photography in the old days of 36 shots on a roll I expect I take a lot fewer shots than many when I do go out shooting. 🤔

Thanks! Yes I thought maybe 400 as a guess. That's OK unless I do a full day and I'm with models as I often take 300-400 photos in a 3hrs shoot.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I do have a spare battery (have one for every digital camera I've had) Got it used from ebay for £85 - seems to have the same 'life' as the one that came with the camera (that I also bought used). Don't remember having to swap it out during a day out though . 🤔

My 27 inch iMac died then Drobo went out of business.....getting reputable models is also harder and harder...so I took a break from photography....recently got new Mac Studio and new BenQ monitor....was able to few photos with help of IT professional consultation and new RAID system....so I decided to do some shoots with the Leica M10 I purchased many years ago (bought and never shot it because I had access to a local film lab and was using my Hassy 503 mostly)...well film lab is gone now and the cost of film, processing, and scanning is STUPID EXPENSIVE NOW......still have my 28,35,50mm Leica lenses.....so I go to charge the basically brand new M10 batteries....and one of them will NOT charge.....both lights on charger just keep flashing.....come on Leica!!!! I still have my Canon 5D IV....and those batteries still charged.....the Leica batteries are $200!!!! beyond pissed off....I can't imagine being on a shoot buying a new battery and have it not work....so your video made me smile....glad it wasn't me.....took a look at some of your other "posts" on here....great channel....love your work!

Thanks yes lots of Leica stuff here (hopefully everything anyone could ever need for related gear info! .. so you're in the right place). With your M10 dead battery try to charge it several times. On the 3rd go mine charged and has been fine ever since.
