Leica M6 - Long-Term Review

Today, I take you on a journey with my Leica M6TTL Film Camera. This Leica is in black chrome and was my daily driver for the past 3 years. I shot a ton of 35mm film rolls on my trip from New Jersey to Key West in Florida. Along the journey I make stops in different towns and go through my thoughts about if the Leica M6 is the best camera ever created.

Over the decades, I have owned and used the following 35mm rangefinder cameras: My first was an Argus C3 with 35, 50, and 100mm lenses. My second was a Minolta Hi-Matic 9 with fixed 45mm f/1.7 lens. My third was a Canon Canonet QL17 G-III with fixed 40mm f/1.7 lens. My fourth was a Contax G1 with 21, 28, 45, and 90mm lenses. My fifth was a Leica M6 titanium with 21, 35, and 90mm lenses. All five were great cameras that produced excellent images.

Totally agree. For a very specific type of photography this is the perfect camera. But for most scenarios not. It was also my ~15-18th camera. BUT I'll not understand that you change to the non TTL version, the bigger dial is so useful for me. And also paired with the SF20 flash it makes fun and works like point and shoot with the flash attached. So I would add for myself "the M6 TTL is the best camera for me". Great video as always!

I think I’ll regret the TTL downgrade and I’m going to keep my eyes out for a well priced titanium TTL to hopefully get back to the better body!!

Love your videos. I’m fairly new to film photography. So are you shooting with your light meter in your M6 “correctly exposed” or are you stopping up/down? Thanks!

I love the M6, a beautiful camera! But most of the time I reach for my Contax T2, and the M6 stays on the shelf. Kind of sad, but the Contax feels better, I'm more in the moment and care less about exposure & focus.

i love it, but it seems to be sitting in my bag more times than not because i am slowly not reaching for film anymore. Hurts me, but I have to sell mine and gonna pick up a fuji for convenience :(

Specs wise I could agree! All comes down to personal preference. I loved my f3 but the Leica makes me shoot more!

I love the M-A. If they did black paint instead of black chrome on it then I think I’d have to pick it up again

@@KylerSteele perhaps a full BP M-A (I mean full, without these nickel and plastic parts from the current MP), would be a perfect looking camera (other than a perfect tool). Until then the black M-A is a solid choice for many of us ;)
