If my viewfinder does have the balsam leak (brown clouding), how bad is that?

It probably won’t affect performance. A good optical repairer may be able to repair.

If the horizontal alignment reaches infinity properly, can you assume that all other focusing points on the lens are accurate? Say at 1m, 3m, and 5m?

If the rangefinder aligns vertically and horizontally at infinity you can be 95% sure the lens will focus correctly at closer distances. Whilst the vertical alignment doesn’t necessarily impact focusing it is a sign the mechanism needs adjusting (a knock perhaps) so it shouldn’t be ignored.

Focus on a subject close to the lens’ nearest focus and take a test shot. Obviously use full aperture. Bear in mind lens and body are adjusted within narrow tolerances so allow some leeway.
