I’m fascinated by the movement of these watches, especially the unique mechanism of the push button for quick-setting the time. The date change function, activated with just a click, is a rarity in the watch market. Imagine having this same feature on an A. Lange & Söhne -it would easily triple or quadruple the price.

In the camera market, Leica is alone in the very high quality, astronomical price tier. They have no real competition. In the watch market, they've stepped into an arena where there are dozens of established competitors in the nine to fifteen thousand dollar range. Interesting watch, but I'm not sure who would buy a watch from a maker with no history, when that buyer could buy an Omega, or IWC, or Rolex. I think Leica may have shot themselves in the foot.

Agree…they should stick to cameras. But if you know Sean, you know he loves watches lol

I think the future will show what Leica's intentions are in the watch industry, but I don't think they shot themselves in the foot. They do have very passionate and very wealthy customers who absolutuely love Leica as a brand and for them picking up this watch during a visit to the Leica store is pretty much equivalent to a normal middle class person picking up a Citizen watch at the shopping mall, so there is definitely a market for these watches. If these super rich customers are rellay into watches, they probably already have their Rolexes, IWCs, Omegas and APs at home, so why not get something different, and if they don't like watches that much, they might just buy it because they love Leica. If Leica really wants to become a respected watch brand, I do think they will have to realease some more affordable watches and if these are well made, they could build some reputation in the watch industry. If they stick to their current price range, I'd think their main target are just wealthy leica enthusiasts.

Leica actually started in watchmaking, however they used that know-how and experience to create the world's first 35mm camera, and the format that would be used to capture history's most iconic pictures. Therefor it makes sense to pay homage to their history and work in a field that is not that unlike the one they currently work in - they share very similar manufacturing precision, materials and design elements. Leica could have made watches in the late 1800s/early 1900's so it's exciting to see what they will do now.
