Thanks for an informative video. Of all your photos I really like those of the lens on your camera. Magic!

One note of Caution with this lens: The front element protrudes, and the glass in some thin-ring filters will hit it. The Nikon L37c filter will hit the front glass, Tiffen and Hoya are fine. If in doubt- put a drop of lens cleaning fluid in the center of the glass of the filter and screw it in. I transplanted the glass from the Nikon filter into a Tiffen filter ring. With the M9 and M Monochrom: use a UV filter to prevent "purple haze" from the CCD's sensitivity in the UV. I also tested this- makes a big difference. And- Did you buy one?

Hi Ashwin, thank you for the review. However, since you said you had previously used the Leica Noctilux, it seems to me you left out a comparison of the rendering of this lens with the Nocti, specifically sharpness where focused and the bokeh. How does the out of focus blur on this CV 50/1 compare with the Nocti? TIA

Thanks for a great review, best of luck with the channel. Currently my favourite Voigtlander lens which is worth a review is the Voigtlander Nokton 40mm F1.2. It is light, sharp wide open ( all be it with a little glow) and delivers great 3D pop as a slightly tighter and faster 35. I use the 50mm frame lines knowing I have a little extra in shot… also it is a bit of an unloved bargain… anyway, just a thought.

I would love to try this one on my M5. But I wonder if the rear protrudes too far for the M5. Would you Ashwin or anyone here know?

Nice to meet you, suika.d! I will be using this lens for portraits of people and dogs. This lens produces a wonderful bokeh effect, which makes the subject stand out beautifully! My cameras are the Leica typ262 and M3. The Leica typ262 does not support Visoflex, and for the M3, I need to ensure that I focus precisely within the viewfinder, so I am a bit concerned about purchasing this lens. However, since I can control the shutter speed with an ND filter, I am not too worried about that aspect. When considering using this lens with a Leica M, although it is a large lens, would you recommend it overall for its focusing, handling, and color?

Great video...I love my Voight 50mm Nokton f1 as well..... Its more modern rending like the Leica .95.... I also have the remake 50 f1.2 noctilux when I want even more a retro look especially for b&w... Subscribed...Can't wait to see more from you!

I tried 2 copies of this lens for portraits. and minimum focus distance there is a focus shift and does not match the rangefinder focus... It is unfortunate, but for the rest, it is a good lens, and nice to see new options on the market.. Just a note on the filter. I would use a quality ND filter, breakthrough photography makes a good one... The vario ND filter is based on Polarizers, and they make the skin look dead in portraits.

Which camera are you using it on? I keep a 1.25x magnifier on my M9 and M Monochrom, neither has Liveview. No problem focusing wide-open at minimum range through to infinity. With my 50mm F1.1 Nokton I use one strip of Copper tape on the RF Cam of the lens to correct for back-focus. I suspect the 50/1.1 was fine-tuned for the Bessa film cameras. Ashwin probably has to approve replies with link, if he does- I put up a link to RFF with several up-close/ wide-open with both Noktons.

I haven’t had any issues with my copy nailing focus. Sometimes some ND filters cause focus shift but I got the cheap ND just to test it out, since I haven’t yet purchased the lens…. Though I am currently contemplating it

Well it's about time that Ashwin, someone with years as a pro with the Seahawks, finally gives us what we needed awhile ago! Great job! My conclusion: Voight Nokton 50 1.0 is very much worth the cost for this great 3-dimensional rendering. My Variable NDs are by B+W. Ashwin I hope you bought the Nokton. 😎

I sure did buy it. The three dimensional look and unique rendering we’re enough to keep me in the game with this lens. It’s reminiscent the night identical to other ultrafast lenses it has a character of its own that’s well worth exploring over the next couple years at the very least.

Beautiful lens and pics. As for me, I think I'll stick with the Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 Nokton. I find it more versatile for my use.

It seems that the only advantage is limited depth of field for an expensive, heavy lens that will partly block your view. Only for a small niche, I think.

Not convinced about the look of the photos taken with the Nokton compared to the Noctilux 0.95 so far. Seems to be a sharp, modern lens but without adding anything special to the photos (besides a narrow depth of field, of course). Does not mean the Noctilux is technically superior but the bokeh usually looks more artistic, more painterly. However, I have to admit that's completely subjective somehow... Looking forward to hearing your opinion regarding this.
@daveandrews6384

In soft lighting it does give a very charicterful painterly look, just like the Noctilux's.(I have these lenses). Honestly the Nokton is great.

@theleicarevue-reviewsfromt2229

Actually it's sharper, in my opinion. There's less 3D pop to my eye than the Noct, which has a very strong blur effect in its center, which I have always attributed to field curvature, when shot at mid distances. This one seems better corrected, albeit with a bit less character (or should I say, different character)

Voigt 50mm f1.0 is ok comparable to TTartisans .95 - Both are not sharp , zone focus is non-distinct, too much distortion, bokeh sucks.
@WeltedWare
@WeltedWare 2 жыл бұрын
In my mind, the voigt is definitely not up to the rendering of the Noct, but it’s a totally different price point. It’s plenty sharp in my use wide open . The TT artisan as some glow, nice for portraits wide open, and the Bokeh is situationally dependent
