Did you buy a q3 again in the end? I have had mine for 4 months and i cant decide whether i should keep it or not. I had a sony a7iv before hand and it was way better. The GM 35mm 1.4 was much sharper than the q3.. and sometimes the distortion on q3 can make my kids have stretched heads... So i have to decide whether to live with the limitations or to get something much bigger and less fun to shoot with. Some of my pictures look incredible. Im worried i will miss it, though if i replace. The video is beautifully detailed but hardly usable if you use autofocus.

I had the opportunity to have the Q3 again for a few week in my hands and now the Q3 is at least for me out of my system. After selling my Q3 I thought I might make it work my using the framelines of 35mm to avoid distortion of my family, which did in fact work for me. But in the end I prefer the much more compact size of the X100VI over the amazing image quality of the Q3. The X100VI image quality is still amazing in my eyes. And if I want to have Leica image quality, I have my Leica M cameras and glas. To answer your question if I didn't have any camera or don't mind having a boring camera (in my opinion), I would buy today an A7CII ( or A7Cr, if resolution is important) and use one of the small G lenses with 40mm for example. With that combo you have class leading AF with a compact full frame setup. Hope this somehow helps. Thank you very much for your time watching and commenting!

@@IntrovertAmateur yes I was thinking of this. They're better cameras without a doubt in terms of versatility but just not as fun! I played around with the 7cr and it feels so cheap and plastic after coming from the q. 2.5 is not bright enough. I'm thinking a 35mm GM if I go for it. Have to sell the Leica first.

I’m pretty disappointed in Leica in 2024. The build quality of the Q3 and SL3 took a step backwards. The paint is way cheaper on the latest gen cameras to the point of being laughable. The new autofocus is terrible compared to other cameras. I needed more reliable autofocus to get snaps of my children so I picked up a Nikon ZF. That camera is amazing! It’s so good that I sold my Q3 and SL3. The heart of Leica is the M system. M cameras and lenses are with the money because the experience is unique.
@IntrovertAmateur7 ай бұрын
I agree with you. The M system is currently out of competition, because Leica has the history and heritage + no other brand is building competitive rangefinder cameras ergo these Leica prices. Thank you for your time watching and commenting!

@@IntrovertAmateur I agree, I'm not a leica fanboy who only buys them for the prestige/ego, I bought an M240 because it's the only digital rangefinder in existence, I'd jump to any valid competitor in a heartbeat who could undercut their prices

The Q1 is the one to get. What makes the Q special is the build quality and the lens, not the software or tech. Getting the Q1 under 2k is the way to go

Totally agree and not gonna lie, I'm currently looking out for the Q1 for under 2k - although I owned it a few years ago and know why I sold it :D (for me it was lag of weather sealing and the battery life). Thank your for watching and commenting! Much appreacited!

The comment about the 28mm lens distortion and your wife’s legs 😂. I think for amateur photographers, our wives/partners can put up with it (spending money, obsessing about gear, interrupting trips constantly to take photos) as long as the photos we take of the family look good and are flattering…at least in my case. This is what I wrote to Leica as a feature request 🙂: 1 - screen flat with the body. You destroyed unique Leica body look ( all understood why) but still a big thing for many Leica lovers 2 - make visor gummi same shape as body, meaning as on original Q. 3 - internal memory please for 600 of 60 MP photos 😉 4 - match Sony / Canon autofocus Otherwise I think it is a very capable camera, I shoot it mainly for people portraits etc and love the fact that I can hold flash in one hand, forget about focusing and just roughly point the camera towards the subject. Matches my style and need currently. Big files allow easy cropping. It is my first Leica though, so not much more I can say. Greets to all you happy shooters

Hows your experience with M9?
@IntrovertAmateur7 ай бұрын
Despite the low dynamic range the experience is great on the M9! This camera is from 2007, therefore the tech inside is very basic and the screen is crap. But because of that the camera just works like you expect it. I personally treat it like a film camera and at the end of the day I get my SD card out instead of the roll of film for development. I got my specific M9 under 1000€ because of the damaged sensor. I made a video about this on my channel if you want to check it out. Normally M9s goes around 2000-3000$ depending on country. For that price I probably would not buy myself a M9.

Did you got a good price selling the Q3? Selling Leicas online is always a bit nerve-wracking. I never get along with the Q2, not only because of 28mm but because the lens is probably closer to 24mm to accommodate distortion control around the edges. I want someone to make a fixed 50mm equivalent camera please. Hope you're doing well!
@IntrovertAmateur7 ай бұрын
I sold my Q3 in the beginning of 2024, when the availability was still quite rare even in Germany and therefore I was able to sell for a good price despite the marks and scratches. After shooting my M9 and M6 for a while now, I would like to give to the Q2/Q3 an other try and treat it as a fake rangefinder, by using the 35mm crop frame lines as warning lines not to enter, to avoid distortion. Let’s see, what the future will bring - because since your M10M video I’m now also keeping an eye on that beauty and scouting on eBay 😂. I wish Leica would make a 35 or 50mm Q, but I think that will never happen because of cost of developing a new lens. That would drive the price up and then people might not buy it. I think current only Ricohs GR is close to 50mm with the 40mm version fixed lens. All others if they build them, stick with 35mm. If that will come out ever Sonys RX1R successor will also get a 35mm 🥲 Thank you for checking and watching! My daughters were a bit sick, but all is fine now. Hope you have still a pleasant trip and a good time with your family in Japan!

I totally agree on the build of the Q series, worst out of their signature lines (M,SL,Q). It’s better than others but lower in Leica standard. It feels hollow and less dense than the others and my first time with the Q and Q2 Reporter which I’ve owned left me disappointed. The paint on the Q is just simply horrible

Yes 100%. I wonder what kind of paint they use on the black M11. Thank you for your time watching.

My wife is the reason I don't own a Q. Exact same reasons as you mentioned, she hates how she looks because of the distortion. I like 28mm but not as an everyday focal length.
@IntrovertAmateur7 ай бұрын
The more I watch videos about focal length, the more I understand how individual this topic is based on my experience. 28mm (or in case of the true Q focal length of 24mm) is great for streets for me, but not an everyday focal length in my current life chapter, like you said. This topic about my wife and focal length was also funny, because later I purchased and justified a 50mm purchase with that arguement and then said: "Look honey, this new lens doesn't make you look big!" :D She was please to see the results, but still can't understand my camera odisey :D Thank you for watching!

I have to disagree- my Q3 has made me the happiest I’ve ever been with a camera, after selling my Q2, getting an X100vi on launch, and immediately regretting my decision- I got a Q3 and I’m in love with it even more. I do agree with the paint markings, that annoys me as much as it did with the Q2. However the camera itself is unbelievable. Also, and I’m no KZbinr but the editing on your video between all the start/stop is really off putting. And also, show some photos and break it up a bit, after a while I gave up listening to you- you ramble on too much my friend

Point taken, I will keep your feedback in mind. I'm still at the beginning of this YT stuff and with two small kids with the age of 1y and 3y, full time job and 4hours of sleep in the night at max, this is what I can currently produce. But areas you mentioned I'm aware and want to improve along the journey. Regarding the Q3 and X100VI I guess it just depends on personal preference what you prefer more. Lately I shot a lot with my M9 and a 50mm Summicron and that combo made me realise how much I personally missed 50mm, since I shot a long time with 28mm and 35mm. Thank you for watching!

Canon R8 or R6 II with the 28/2.8 pancake lens (or the Nikon equivalent) will eat a Q3 for breakfast (and an X100V)... and before I have fanboys and girls slaughtering me in the comments, I actually owned an X100T (not in love at all, I prefer my Canon M50, and would have bought an Canon M5II if they had made one), and I also own a Leica M6 TTL which i really enjoy shooting because it is a pleasant experience (but doesn't beat my film SLRs with premium glass, AF or not). And yes, what you point out about the hardware and mostly the software is unacceptable, Leica treats its customers like beta testers, this isn't luxury at all, this is pretend luxury... and when on top of that the result is inferior to the result produced by Canon/Nikon/Panasonic for smaller budgets then you have a problem! As for the Leica colours some will say, if you shoot RAW and can edit on Photoshop, it isn't really a problem, you can even make a custom profile to mimic it, I am sure someone has done it, it won't be exactly the same but also it won't matter at all that it is not exactly the same as nobody will ever know it isn't.

Waiting for replacements and was sent the same scenario again. 3 bodies with dust inside the viewfinders. Not brand new and resold to a new customer. I refunded 16k worth of an order. Never again. Bought a 2nd hand M4 and serviced it with a 3rd party I had emailed Leica HQ 4 times and didn’t even get a reply. Their support and service is an absolute disgrace. I’d never again buy new from them. They don’t give a FK about their customers The Q should have had a port hole viewfinder as there are plenty of glass wearers that have damaged the glass on the EVF. It’s wide open to be damaged. €250 to repair and its join the 3-6 month queue with Leicas useless repair technicians where as Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm are 2-3 weeks turnaround There was a guy on the Leica forum who had stated he sent an €11k 50mm noctilux in for CLA and it came back with oil all over the blades and he contacted Leica and they denied it. You have no comeback and they are training monkeys
