Unboxing: Leica SL3 + Comparison with SL2

I've had the privilege to unbox every generation SL camera since 2015, and today I get to unbox the latest and greatest SL3. I also have the SL2 so we will compare the size, and weight, as well as some of the functional and design differences. I do appreciate the smaller size and weight of the new SL3, building upon the great design of the previous SL2. I absolutely love the way Leica has handled the UI of this camera, I hope some of it can be ported over to the Q3 in firmware eventually, seeing as how it uses the same processor and sensor.

Yes we asked about that, and they said it’s not off the table, so the more we say it, the more likely it will convince them to do it.

📸 The stuff that DREAMS are made of & if you don’t have a dream how can you make it come true. Like a good ROLEX watch a LEICA SL3 is a good investment and wonderful camera to have as a family heirloom to hand down to the next generation of photographer filmmaker. Thanks! The TL2 and S5ii have tsken over my camera bag -- Fuji needs to release the X-Pro4! That with the Voigtlaender APO-Ultron, the VX50 Nokton and the VX27 f/2 pancake would out-M the M, bigtime.

Thank you for the excellent comparison video. It seems the SL design is getting more "noisy" with steps and lines and not as sleek as the "less is more" approach as it used to be. And they still kept that rubber for the ports...The issue I have the most is that the LCD is sticking out like it is with the Q3. This is really bothering me to the point of passing on the purchase. I wish they could learn a thing or two from Fujifilm X100V or VI.

I wear two for various reasons, mostly to communicate something to those who are discerning. Both watches are from a German watch brand called Kobold Expedition Tools. Since I was doing an unboxing of a German camera manufacturer, I thought I’d wear two watches from a German watch manufacturer.

My guess is that they won’t do it as there probably isn’t a demand for it, but interesting concept. Maybe video peeps would appreciate a high dynamic range hi ISO camera?

Can´t handle the brick on the back. This alone, can set me apart of buying one of these, as I was really eager to get one, to pair with the M10R.

Understood. It’s not for everyone. It does feel good in the hands though. SL3 is smaller and lighter, but still it’s a brick in construction, IP54, but of course you pay for it.

Unfortunately Leica SL still needs all kind of improvement in ergonomics to make camera usable. The On off button is kind of bogus thing and on a wrong side of the body ….you have to use both hands to switch on camera, it is also unclear what Leica chassing with two top bottons ? It is not classic layout camera and also not modern one but something in between.
