How was the autofocus? Is eye focusing as good as Sony, Canon, or Fujifilm? Was AF similar to the Panasonic S1/S1R? What are the choices for strobe triggers? How did the SL2 perform in low light. Did you try any adapted lenses on the SL2?

Yeah this is still a bit pricey, but cheaper than most flagship DSLR or mirrorless camera's such as the Nikon D5 or Canon 1Dx Mark II, Sony A9 II, etc. This is actually $2k less than I thought it would be when I clicked on the affiliate link. I was thinking it would be $8k at least, so this is pretty awesome for those who have the cash and prefer Leica. I certainly wont be buying one, not because of price, but because I'm a photojournalist and need faster, better AF and native super-tele lenses like my Nikon 400mm f2.8 VR.

The 28mm fixed lens Leica Q2, which I own and love, is actually about the same price as a roughly equivalent Nikon Z7 with an equivalent (28mm f/1.4) lens. So although Leica is not cheap, I wouldn't say their more modern cameras are as outrageously expensive as the M. Alas, the Leica 24-90 used in Sara's video is $4,995, a lot more than Nikon's. But it's a lovely piece of glass. Maybe 2020 will be my year to finally own a SL, well SL2. The only real drawback is how great the Q2 is. I do 99% of my photography with it and don't really need to buy another camera. Unless I want one. And recover from the full-boat 16" MacBook Pro I just bought. Need the 8TB for those 46 megapixel images, don't you know? :).

@@DavidHDennis I agree one hundred percent with you. If I was not a photojournalist that covers mostly sports and breaking news, I'd buy the SL2. I had a D850, bought it when it was first released, but it was too much camera for my needs. I was able to sell it for a profit, because there were none available when I sold it. I miss somethings about it, namely the files it produced, they were gorgeous. Leica has produced some truly epic camera's and some have very unique sensor otput. In my opinion only Nikon and Leica produce such an image, like the D700 and D4/D4s. There is something truly magical about those sensors and output, that's why I still use two D4s bodies. If Leica produced a true sports camera and 400mm f2.8 VR that could compete with Nikon, I'd seriously consider them. Most people don't even see what I'm talking about, tonal detail and image fidelity or micro contrast. Sometimes it takes a true monochrome camera to show the masses these qualities they consider unicorns lol, but I see it with my naked eye. I guess when you're someone who came from film and have a special eye it's more noticeable. It probably helps to that I have 20-10 vision, there are only a few people in the world with better eyesight, but then again people see what were talking about that don't have great eyesight. Maybe the masses are just blind to what makes certain lenses or sensor's special. I always laugh when people compare iPhone's to full frame or crop sensors to medium format.

$5,990 plus $4,995 for the 24-90 zoom lens used to get those lovely images. So a total of almost $11,000. Leica dealers often sell used gear that helps on the price a bit. Figure on a $1,000 discount on a used example of the lens, bringing down the total price to just under $10,000.

I love how retro the camera looks. I can imagine clients wondering if they hired the wrong photographer, thinking I'm using a really old camera, then amazed at the results. My dreams were crushed (for now) when I saw the price tag 😞) Also, Pro Tip: Drink your coffee without sugar. You won't have the crash afterward, and if you acquire the love for unsweetened coffee, you will find a love for it's taste that will help you appreciate and love coffee so much more!

Excuse me? We don't buy a camera because it is a beauty. We buy a new one because the performance is great and it is offering functions and features which bring us forward. The new Leica SL2 unfortunately does not offer anything what I cannot get already since at least 2 years. 47MP? Not new. The Panasonic S1R offers it, the news Sony A7R4 is even at 61MP. It is really interesting that companies like Hasselblad and Leica offer just standard products just with their brand name on it and there are people running behind them begging for a copy :) In my opinion, no Leica is worth the money. Same as Hasselblad, it is a company from the past. Outdated and outclassed by the competition today.

I have a Q2, not the SL2, and I can confirm the autofocus does hunt. The best way to use either camera is going to be manual focus + focus peaking, which can produce very nice, smooth results. I don't think this is different from most other cameras, although I have not tried all the newest mirrorless cameras.

I used to really really love Leica cameras. I had the M4. M4-2 and M6 with 35, 50 and 90mm lenses but now I really don't see the value in these cameras. I love my Nikon D850 and don't ever see going back to Leica. Sorry .... very nice video though ... thank you

Not as effective as tracking subjects as other cameras. Besides that, Leica is really catching up with the SL2. Picture quality with Leica is always great. For me the focussing speed and accuracy is just crucial. Keeping A9 for now. Great Camera though...
