Sorry to hear, I got mine pre-COVID and have been extremely happy. The recent firmware update made something good even better. I started with canon but wanted to move to mirrorless and always loved the color science of Leica. The R5 looks great though.

Interested as to how Canon blew it out of the water . I have a few Leica cameras but am debating between an SL and the Canon R5 . Can`t find any comparisons on the web....The differences may not matter to me , of course, but interested to know what you though were the advantages of the Canon .Thanks

Oh it is more common than you would think. Being a Leica owner for almost 10 years, and having purchased lots of cameras and lenses brand new, there's been a lot of cameras and lenses delivered out-of-the-box with tons of sensor dust from the factory, dust inside lenses, wobbly lens focusing helicoids, grinding lens gears, dust inside the viewfinders, rangefinders that are out of calibration and spec, and so on and so on. And then you have to wait 4-8 weeks to have a brand new product fixed since it has to be shipped to Germany. And then when you get your camera back from Leica CS, there is still a lot of dust on the sensor, even though they claim to have cleaned the sensor. Manual hand-assembly might be the source of this. Assembly machines are more consistent. And human beings are the number one contaminator of "clean rooms".

At the price, I too, would expect perfection out of the box.

Exactly!!

Compared to what.....guess you’ll never own a Nikon, Canon or Sony with that standard.

William Inbody, I've owned in the past, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Fujifilm, Kodak, Sony and many other brands of cameras including two Leica cameras (an M9 and a D-Lux5), digital and film, including Russian cameras so I'm not sure of your point. The more you pay for something, the more I expect it to be as near to perfect, or flawless, as possible but if you're paying £6/7/8/9,000 for a camera then yes, I expect it to be perfect; and I assume those buying Leica’s will expect that too... My M9 and lens (35mm Leica lens) cost me well over £6,000 (probably nearer £7,000) and as far I could tell, was indeed flawless and in that context, perfect. In the case of the story, two faulty sensors are not ’perfect’ and, indeed, not of a quality you'd expect from a manufacturer of Leica’s quality too. The worst cameras I've ever owned were all Nikon’s each of which had faults over time, the first after some years use but the last, was the one that finished me with Nikon where the sensor was getting covered in oil and shutter debris: the D600. In the cases discussed in the video, prefect is being referred to the fact that the sensors we're imperfect, in both occasions... Hence my comment. I hope my answer clears that up... Best regards.

Can’t blame ya there, dead pixels are a major bummer and the R5/R6 are going to be hard to beat

Good afternoon Alex from Andalucia (Spain). I follow you on You Tube and I have seen the problem you have had with the Leica SL2. I see that you also have a Leica Q2, I also have one and I would like to ask you if you have noticed. With the Q2 turned off, when you move it up or down in your hand, it makes a noise as if it had something loose, does it happen to you too? Is it because of the stabilizer? Due to the problem of the Covid -19 it is difficult to approach the store where I bought it. Thanks for your time and for the answer.

I'm not sure why you are so unlucky, I have three Leica (SL and SL2 including) and had no problems with any. Good luck with Canon. I moved from Nikon to Leica and happy where I am with no regrets.

I can understand this kind of frustration when you have spent so much money on camera equipment. But i wanted to ask how you stand on the lenses still. Camera bodies come and go but i think you buy into a lens system. What is your opinion on the lenses for the sl system from Leica? Overpriced? Do they give a different look? Lately i find myself looking for a certain characteristic in lenses and on how they display roundness and gradations more so then sharpness.
@ABarrera4 жыл бұрын
It’s a tough question because the lenses are great! The RF Canon lenses are also great and cheaper.....
@benoitpiret90654 жыл бұрын
that sucks lol. I did have the spec of dust too as you know. I agree they could have rushed the batch out that would make sense. The only real reasons to justify the SL2 over the R5 IMO are: 1) you have several M lenses and thats the only mirrorless that can support the M lenses properly 2) you like the output better 3) multishot 4) ergonomics/simplicity Otherwise the R5 seems a much better all around IMO

My original SL has that same spec on the EVF..... it doesnt bother me, but yea, sometimes its annoying.

I had dust as well on the viewfinder of my S1 after a few months of usage. I had to send it back to have it replaced. It's the same 5.6 Mdots EVF made by Sony.

I’m a little disappointed but understand your reasoning for sure. My SL2 is great but at least you have a Q2 still. I hope you’ll also use it for your wedding shoots (although not exclusively of course)

Leica like everyone else can have a dust speck these are in my Nikon d850 all the time. That being said ssing a Leica is very different than anything else ( i own several) , it separates you from the run of the mill, Its considered a benchmark and to your clients it demonstrates a greater degree professionalism. Beginners, novice and casual hobbyists chose spec sheets, utilitarian, inexpensive and perfunctory gear. Professionals choose and invest in gear that lasts, is reliable, provides an image quality that suits the individuals best way to represent themselves. Professionals also choose lenses they need and want based on look and rendering before they purchase bodies. I am curious about the store your using, I’m in LA and I am frequent flyer at Leica, its the most professional and gracious service there even if I am just stopping by and not purchasing anything. The pixel issue may have needed a remap from the software and the dust issue, well it seems like it should have been an easy fix. I am curious why you didn’t try an S1R as they are virtually the same camera in different forms. I have shot pretty much everything, and once you work with the Leica images, you have a q, you know how wonderful the tones and roll off can be. All cameras are wonderful these days, just get what inspires you. It seems you purchased the Canon based on what it can do for you, its spec sheet details, But is it inspiring to shoot with. The Canon seems more like a work perfunctory work tool, and probably a very good too,.

Shit happens but as we can see not equally divided over all people ;-) Sorry to hear your bad experiences. I know a guy who had to return his Fuji XT3 - 4 times with problems and I know lotsa Fuji shooters who have no problems at all, and he is still a sort of a fanboy. I shoot Leica but came from Canon but now (October 2020) that Canon R5 is out , man there is this voice in my head ... Anyways good luck, happy shooting and stay safe.

Imagine you buy S3 and go through that. Leica reminds me Landrover charging fortune but then telling they didn’t guarantee that it won’t break all the time. They exist thanks to the fools who sponsor them.

It should not be a surprise to come across imperfections in a camera/lens. Leica is no exception. I have owned Leicas for many years and have personally come across flaws in their lenses. And I believe most major cameras are hand assembled so there is nothing really unique about Leica camera being "hand assembled". Don't get me wrong. I am not putting Leica down. They do make great lenses and their quality is usually very good. But at a price. And for that price, it is right for every customer to demand the best.
