Nice to see you again !!!
11:15 SLIDESHOW of pictures...
I've been shooting this 50 mm Summilux for quite a year in few occasions and tomorrow it will leave my home and I considered it was the best time ever to make a short video about it.
Yes, I exchanged it for its manual version and a small cash balance in order to respect my personal commitment to capitalize cash during these difficult times.
So here is the LEICA SUMMILUX SL 50mm f/1,4 ASPH.
Is this the best lens ever ? Let's see in this video !
It's incredibly crisp and sharp in the point of focus and brings dreamy smoothness to the background and foreground area. the transition is so delicate and refined that it transports you to another universe. !!!
Okay, let's calm down, it's not the only one that can do that. Take the Nikon 58mm f / 1.4 for example ... well ... no in fact it is not as sharp and above all it is full of chromatic aberration and green and purple fringes before and after the focus point.
The Summilux SL 50mm ASPH is free from all of these classic problems inherent in super wide aperture lenses.
This totally justifies its price and as long as one has not experimented with this type of lens, one often tends to criticize openly and without knowing the positioning of the price of Leica.
YES it's pricy but it deserves this once you see the results and you compare it with what you get from a traditional wide aperture prime lens.

I had it for 1€ when I bought the S1R The MF clutch failed 2 times Got repaired two times and failed again… Sold BUT in terms of optical quality it was impressive. I may have had a bad one and I’m not against trying a new one…

I am using it as my only SL lens, it's awesome. Though I have the feeling, it is a little wider than 50mm.

If I could I would have kept it as it is so marvelous. I didn’t compare with another 50mm at the same time, so I can’t tell you about its true focal length.

Nice ‘a revoir’ to your SL 1.4/50 lens, photos are great and no drought it is an excellent lens. 1.4/50 Summilux M mount is a great lens as well; let us know your thoughts of it and some nice picture of France. Take care Didier.

How much do you have to stop down the 58mm f1.4 to loose the purple fringing? ps. Bonjour D3x. 😜

Hello my friend !!! Well seen !!! My new D3X is here 😊😊 I will try deeper the 58 but consider at least f/4 This lens is very special and needs to be trained to use it. It’s not the all rounder lens that you take with you everyday. Backlighted subject is not for it.
