Hello Didier, thank you for your wonderful overview of the custom settings, I only have one question and that is why you didn't set the ISO numbers higher, in a previous video you set the ISO numbers to 12,000 on the D3s, which I've had for two years and have been very happy with so far. Is there a reason why you only set it up to ISO 800, but everything in the shooting menu was great and I think it's great that you're still experimenting with this Nikon D3s or D3x and I think it's a very good camera too.. thx chris

Hello Chris and thanks for watching this las video. Well the answer is simple, the D3X doesn't go very High in ISO in the contrary of the D3S It's a camera you want to shoot at its lower ISO to get the best image quality. Thanks again for your support. Have a great day

nice walk-through Didier - thanks. I have to admit that when I shot Nikon as my main camera (D90, D700 and briefly D800) I rarely ventured deep into the menu. Shooting landscapes I didn't really feel the need to have rapid access to any modes, etc. But it's nice to see that on their pro cameras Nikon really did put the photographer first, with so many dedicated buttons 🙂

Hi Didier, thank you for another wonderful video! I have 2 of these D3x and I developed a love-hate relationship with them. I can live with ISO limitations, but one thing that drives me crazy is that in 14-bit raw the shutter sounds terrible. Not only it goes down from 5fps to <2fps, but it sounds weak… as if I shoot at 1/20s (regardless of actual shutter speed). Other than that it is a great camera.
@DidierMOULINPhotography

Hi, thank you for this very positive feedback and sharing your experience with the D3X. Yes indeed you are right, when 14 bits RAW is engaged, the burst rate drops... But personally I love this sound ! It doesn't change if I am in 12 or 14 bits and it's one of the characteristic of the camera that I really like. This sound is amazing. OK you are not discrete at all, but what a machine in action.

Great to see a new review of the D3X. I loved and still love the camera. Only issue I found is the image quality at high ISOs, like 1,600, is not that great. So for low light it benefits from working alongside the D4, for example. But at 100 ISO the images are truly incredible on the D3X… and on a par with more modern cameras… Still don’t understand why it was SO VERY expensive when it was new though… and I bought mine new when it first came out!

I love the controls, the buttons, the fact that autofocus doesnt miss, while the AI focusing system of Z6 is almost never ever where i want it to be. Hi Didier, thank you for making this video. When shooting when there's plenty of light, do you notice a difference b/w D6 and D3S? I think where the D6 shines is shooting in very low light and not missing a shot in sports or wildlife photography. Also, the eye autofocus is a good improvement for moving subjects. But even a 10 year old Fuji mirorless that costs a lot less than the D6 does eye autofocus and costs much less than the used D6. If the D6 costs below 1,000 USD, I'd go for it. D3S and used Fuji mirrorless won't break the bank. I do appreciate your inputs though. I love your content.

@@DidierMOULINPhotography I tried an S5II yesterday. It's very good but much more expensive than an S1. The size of the S1 concerns me a bit and if you want VLog you have to buy an update but even then, it's still ridiculously cheap. One thing I love on the S1 models is that EVF. What I don't want is a Sony. I've had problems with them and my Sony is now totally broken. I have to buy a camera soon but I'm still not sure which one. An S1 would give me a camera for the moment at cheap price. Ideally I would like to go Nikon because apparently their adapter works really well with older mount autofocus lenses. I don't have any of those but I know many of them are great and a good buy second hand. The Zf is appearing second hand now. I though that was great. I tried one but I'm not sure about the retro style and ergonomics. Have you ever noticed any moire problems with the S1? I know you concentrate on photography but obviously you do youtube videos. The S1H has an AA filter so should not have moire problems but it is even bigger. I'm thinking to separate video and photography so I can have a much smaller photography camera. I don't like the idea of taking any of the S1 range out for landscapes for example and they wouldn't be discreet for any street photography. I don't think it will be too long before all the cameras have great autofocus and IBIS but it's still a bit limited if you are buying second hand.

@@ryanstark2350 the S1 is loosing value everyday I’m actually selling mine since I had the opportunity to get a S5iiX at a very low price. The S1 is big it’s true As big as a D850, or nearly. But IBIS is very good AF is not as reactive as any other brand. That’s why they get cheaper and cheaper But for manual lenses it’s very 👍

Second hand Nikons would be great except for the fact that Nikon have been years behind with mirrorless so second hand options are not great. There are many older great Nikon lenses which will work adapted to the new Nikon mount so eventually it should be a great option as long as Nikon can get their act together. They need their upcoming Z6III to be excellent.

The Zf is really appealing to me with its unique feature of face recognition even with manual lenses

@@DidierMOULINPhotography I tried a Zf and it is very good. The eye detect in manual focus is very useful. However, I'm not sure about the retro styling. I think it's much less ergonomic. I'm having to test a few cameras at the moment because I have no camera and need to buy one. My Sony broke and I wont be buying another Sony.

@@DidierMOULINPhotography Apparently the eye detection autofocus feature on the Zf does not work with manual lenses that have no digital contact. Some people have found that using an adapter with electronic contact but non electronic lens attached causes the eye detection to work but then stabilization is not working. It doesn't work with Nikon's own adapter either. It will work with a newer manual lens like say a Voigtlander which has electronic communication. The manual Zeiss Classic versions with electronic contacts should also cause it to work. I have one of those but this kind of kills the usefulness of that feature for old vintage lenses.

@@ryanstark2350 ho really ? That a bad news indeed as all my manual lenses are from Ai period. Thanks for the information I will try to check this at my local store. All these influencers KZbinrs are really not fair and honest unfortunately

A great thing to do is buy old manual lenses. I've been doing this for many years. I have some very good lenses some of which are over 70 years old. Obviously Leica lenses are good but expensive. Schneider Krueznach, early preset and auto Takumars, Nikons and Zeiss are great. The worst buys are Sony cameras or at least the larger full frame ones. They fail a lot and have horrible value depreciation. This is why I'm looking at full frame Lumix. My Sony has had a number of issues and is now useless.

D700 with new lenses works great too. Im using a Sigma 85mm Art on my D700. Supersharp and high contrast.

Yes you are perfectly right. The D700 is not a hight demanding sensor and those pixels of that time are soooo nice, when used with great lenses, it's a real joy.

The S1 seems like a ridiculously cheap bargain now with good video capability. I have a lot of old vintage lenses and these S1s are perfect for adapting them since autofocus is not such a priority and the EVF on these cameras is very good as well. IBIS is also very good. The main issue is the large size.

You perfectly nailed it. A S1 is easy to find at one third of the price of a SL2S which is the same camera !!!
