I gotta tell ya, listening to Gav, talk about, "girl toys", has given me a real appreciation for them. Before your show, I had nothing but masculine boy toys in my collection, but the other day I saw something cute and "feminine", and said, what the hell and I bought it anyway. I may even start a small hodgepodge collection of girl toys that represents the 70s and 80s simply because I love all things pop-culture and toy engineering plus toy history are my first passions. Go Gav Go! Gen X 🤘🏽

Every day is a school day, learnt about Blythe dolls & Politoys! Well, more about Politoys. At least collecting the mini versions rather than the real cars saves space. Another good episode, thanks guys

In America we had something called 'Show and Tell' where we would bring something interesting to school (lots of toys) and present it to the class and talk about it. Not sure if Britain had the same tradition, but this is exactly what this segment reminds me of. I'm glad I still get to take part in a small way by viewing and listening!

Love Blythe! Remember seeing them in Hong Kong in about 2004 and wishing I had a bigger suitcase!

Incidentally, the theme song for Bareta, starting in the 2nd season, was sung by Sammy Davis Jr. It has a 70s vibe all over it.

I couldn't have a Blythe in my living room, I'd be terrified of looking at it and seeing it's head slowly...turning...to look...at ME!😱😂

Just been looking at those blythe dolls..blimey even ones from the early 00s are expensive. I wonder how much a mib 1972 blythe doll would fetch?

Most go for about £1,000. It's very unlikely you'll find one in the wild though, as there were very few made.

How can you not like toy cars?

Oh yeah, some doll lines go for insane money, like Jawa vinyl cape money lol. I do like the action gimmick dolls, bought one Monster High that had switching eyes like that. Such enormous heads on the Blythe dolls though, I feel like the bobblehead scale has kind of saturated all toys in a widespread manner these last 10-15 years. It's a bit of a physics problem figures so top heavy heh. Shame about the small plastic cars, that's probably why most companies used metal for the main hull. Likely had their reasons but yeah that results in a rather fragile toy where it would be hard to find surviving examples. Bit like Super Joe, be prepared to collect broken toys.😉

I still couldn't buy a girls toy ... it was risky enough as a kid owning 'grumpy' the blue male from the Care Bears ... got to be a manly man like Ron Burgundy in Anchorman or Arnie Schwarzenegger.
