Leigh on sea UK Christmas - Evening Walking Tour

I first knew this area of Leigh-on -Sea in the late 1940's and lived not far from the Broadway in the 1960's. The shops have all changed since then, of course, except for The Dressmaker on the corner of the Broadway opposite the church. There's been a shop selling dress fabrics on that site as far back as I can remember. Many thanks for the memories.

Hello there Veronica, how lovely to receive your message. My Mum grew up in the 40's too and lived just off the Broadway. I hope this brought back some good memories despite the changes. What a delightful town,you do live in a desirable place,lucky you.The florist at the beginning was stunning,the Candy Station would be a place I would definitely visit,not sure about the Blind Barbers hehe! Did not spot a red phone box,just a red post box of which we have plenty.Did notice that you nearly got run over!!! Do take care and thanks for that lovely walk.

My mum lived for many years on Olive Avenue. They pulled down the old white houses where she had her flat and put up new flats - do you know where I mean? She lived at 115 Olive Avenue. She used to walk all the way to Iceland (LOL, the store in Hadleigh) and back again with all her shopping. And she'd pop to the Tesco gas station store round the corner on Southend Road for her newspaper and cigarettes. She loved to shop in the second-hand clothing stores there, too, especially Barnardo's. If you ever feel like it, would love a stroll down Olive Avenue to Highlands Boulevard and then into the Southend Road. You could keep strolling down to the sea - beautiful sunsets, there, aren't there?
