With it’s commanding view over Clacton’s seafront Moot Hall appears to have been there for hundreds of years, but this is not so.
The Fifteenth Century building started life at Horstead Place nr. Bury St Edmunds, over 50 miles away! In 1910 it was carefully dismantled one brick at a time, every timber marked and recorded before embarking on its journey to the Essex coast.
An educated guess puts this silent cine footage at around 1960. If anyone could add to this please leave a comment.
