We had our big 19 week anatomy scan (ultrasound) and we got good news and some really scary bad news too but I'm determined to do everything I can to avoid stress and enjoy this time with our sweet baby no matter what.

It’s a beautiful, cozy fall day and you think back on all the ups and downs that led to this moment and smile at your baby because they’re in your arms and none of the challenges matter anymore. The first positive test that didn’t work out, the hyper-stimulation, the pain (in the butt!) of taking shots everyday, and now this. My nephew has a one of a kind heart. Not only did he have two severe heart defects that were repaired when he was 6 months old but his electrical system was written about in a medical journal. He was in heart failure the first 6 months of his life. He’s 20 years old and in college to be a pediatric cardiologist like the one that saved him. You would never know he has a special heart-he will have to eventually have a pacemaker and seems the cardiologist every year but he lives a normal life. Just a little story that having a baby with a heart problem can have a happy ending. :)

My son has a severe heart defect and has had two heart surgeries so far. He'll be 1 years old on Saturday. He is doing well! We found out about his heart at my 20 week anatomy scan, so I can relate to how terrifying it is to hear news like that. I found it very comforting to hear that I wasn't alone in having my world rocked. You're not alone. 💕

I'm so glad your baby's growing so well and is such a little party kiddo! One thing I found helpful during my pregnancies (when I had worrisome things to think about) was just sitting in my rocking chair, rubbing my bump, and singing softly to the baby. The love just melted the worries away and I felt stronger to cope with worries after that bonding time. You've got Grant, great doctors, a wonderful family showering you all with love and prayers...and you've got one precious baby who has an amazing Mom and Dad.

I’m glad it’s a maybe and not a yes, but I’m sorry it’s there. It’s never nice to hear anything is “wrong.” Thank goodness Grant is a Dr! I can only imagine the comfort that can bring. I’m a nursing student and it’s nice to see the medical side and be able to research things and not just see the scariness of it all! I’m glad things are good everywhere else!!!

I’m a Lupus mom on Plaquenil as well, and went through the same pregnancy angst you are right now. All the talk of heart issues scared the crap out of us too, but we have two healthy strapping young men to show for it. God’s got your back, and He’s got that baby’s back too. What you focus on expands, so try not to focus like mad on the scariest parts. Keep the faith. You’re going to be a beautiful family of three one day soon! ❤️🙏👍

I am 16w5d pregnant and I have SLE. It's comforting to see someone with a platform discuss some of the issues and concerns people with lupus deal with in pregnancy and in general. I have many of the same worries with my pregnancy and watching your video today made me just burst into tears.. and I don't mean that in a bad way. I saw a high risk doctor for my third pregnancy and had a total of 15 ultrasounds. I made myself miserable with the “what if’s”, and wish I would have had a better attitude! Baby was born big and perfect 💚

Something to be mindful of is the safety risks of dopplers - Doppler ultrasound wave can produce contraction or cavitation of bubbles in the fetal lungs or bowels, which can theoretically damage fetal organs or disrupt loosely tethered embryonic tissues. Not something I would recommend using daily, if at all.

You should download the Abridge app for your doctor appointments, it’s a way to record your appointments and not miss what the doctor says and you can share with Grant if he can’t be there. They have worked with a ton of specialists and families who visit doctors often to get an accurate dialog as possible with all of the medical terms. Also, praying for you guys just remember everything is already planned out and you are strong enough to handle everything that comes your way

Leigh Ann love, you are such a strong wonderful mommy already. I know that you are scared, and that is ok. I am a CHD baby, born with two severe heart conditions in the 80’s when there wasn’t a real fix; it has been hard on my parents especially, but now I am 34, just a year post-transplant. I don’t know if this helps, but I am trying to give you an example of a great outcome even in the most difficult circumstances. Such a stressful and emotional time for you, my heart really goes out to you. My no2 pregnancy was very high risk from day dot so even though it was different complicated I do know a little of how you’re feeling. I have a whole host of health issues and they told me I was also high risk for the baby having a heart issue. We had to get an echo to look at the heart and luckily his heart was totally normal. Stay positive!! You’re doing everything right and doing all you can!

My son and I were both born with EDS type 6. His is a bit worse than mine as he has Marfans and Pots. It’s hard not to feel guilty that he got it from me. However, it could be so much worse. It’s hard not to think of the worse case scenario. That’s normal for caring parents. You guys are so amazing. You’ve got this! This is such a lucky baby. Sending lots of 🙏 and ❤️.

Leighann, I’m 36 weeks with my c-section scheduled for TOMORROW morning! 😬 During our anatomy scan at week 19, we found out our baby girl has a sacrococcygeal teratoma, or a tumor growing from her tailbone. This pregnancy has been terrifying, and long, and full of weekly ultrasounds, but she has been such a trooper and tolerated the tumor so well. She will need surgery to remove it once she arrives tomorrow, so we are praying hard and having faith! But I absolutely know the headspace of “should I even keep building a nursery?” It was so hard to keep preparing for her once we found out about her condition, but our families really banded together and helped us. I will be praying for you both & for your baby to be healthy, hang in there!! 🙏🏼💕✨

Prayers that everything turns out ok. Make sure you check your pulse first as a baseline so you know what your pulse rate is when checking baby’s heart rate on Doppler. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference except baby’s heart rate is higher

I can relate to your ultrasound story so much. When I had my 20 week ultrasound, the doctor saw cysts on my babies brain and one underdeveloped kidney. They told me there was a risk of trisomy 13 and I had to do further testing. After genetic testing (NIPT) came in as high risk, although there was not enough Fetal Fraction in my blood to really test it, I had to go through amniocentesis. The specialist performing it was basically saying that most likely my baby does have some sort of genetic abnormality and we will be able to know for sure after the test. Well...throughout all of it I was CONVINCED that my son was perfectly fine and there had to be some mistake with the tests or doctors overreacting with the ultrasound findings. My son’s genetic test came back perfectly normal and he’s a happy and healthy 18 month old 🤍 I pray your baby’s heart will continue developing the way it should and it’s born healthy with no issues!

It makes my heart so happy how much in 23 years things have advanced. I was high-risk 23 years ago with my daughter and so many of the things that you are saying are the same but there are so many new things like being able to have a Doppler at home is so exciting, I love when science and education with all the advancements are doing something so good you know. Just remember at the end of this you will have a full book of watching your baby grow inside of you and it’s a really cool thing to have, that being said I totally feel you talking about your fears and being afraid of buying things but just remember you went through hell and back conceiving this baby, please try to enjoy every moment of it and that includes a baby shower and buying your first pair of the most adorable booties. Please don’t let your fears stop you from having the enjoyment that you deserve. We are here for you and we will stand by you with all of your decisions, I adore you so much and I’m rooting for you guys from the very beginning. I know everything I’m saying makes you want to say but what if... and there is nothing anyone can say to take those fears away but you have awesome doctors, a loving husband, a supportive family and not to mention every single one of us that are here to support you every step and that alone is so awesome & a gift from God.

I have complete confidence that your little one is going to be healthy, happy and just the cutest, sweetest thing. I'm still going to be eating the cookies and praying the prayers, of course. You just keep thinking positively. We all love you guys so much and are standing by you to give you strength. 💙 My boyfriend is in Dallas for work. I'll have to tell him to go to Rodeo Goat for lunch before they head back to Houston. Do they have parking for a big art handling truck? Lol Not many places do.

You got this momma! Going to the high risk OB is always nerve wracking of you know you are in the best hands, but it's also high risk so that's meh. I see a high risk OB constantly for my issues during my pregnancy and I'm a few days behind you. Just keep fist bumping little cookie monster, listening to the best sound in the world, and be positive :) You two are the most positive and wholesome couples I've seen on KZbin and are already great parents to little cookie monster. Keeping you up in prayers!
