How to make a style from scratch with Yamaha SX900

This video shows you how to create a style from absolute scratch using the Yamaha SX900 keyboard. The process is identical with Genos 1 and Genos 2. Yamaha make the most incredible instruments and make style creation very very easy as long as you have the basic knowledge which I hope to show you in this video. Thanks for taking the time to make a video for the SX owners! A great refresher video and shows the power of these Yamaha arranger keyboards. There is still alot remaining undiscovered on this keyboard and I've owned it for few years now. I was going to upgrade to a Genos but the SX900 has most of the same features and sounds awesome in the right hands. PS..the cough is going about, I've had it for 2 weeks now..feel awful 😮‍💨

I simple play the styles that the Yamaha Genos 2 came with and never even bothered to try anything of this sort :) I haven't even learnt how to create registrations as of yet. Hello Again Leigh,...what an amazing video again. Like you said in an other video,...this is a very powerful en well thought out instrument. I couldn't agree more! What I really really like about your video's is you switching from keyboard layout to a full screen display layout. Wonderful. So we can see the display functions very well. I assume you have something to make that happen. Could you help me out with that Leigh? I want to display the internal display to an external monitor? The SX900 doesn't come with a HDMI port??? Is there an ability to insert additional bars in the middle of Midi song and record just that additional part instead of recording the whole song? Also, I noticed that when I made a mistake and just wanted to start recording from that part, the drum velocity changes for some reason. Do you know how to fix that? I appreciate your great performance and tutorials. I enjoy every video.🤝

As someone new to keyboards, I keep hearing the word "pad". For example, in this video, "choir and pad"and "pad strings". Can anyone tell me what pad actually means? Many thanks.

It’s referring to a voice that adds a “layer” of sound - normally a warm sound to “pad” out the backing.

What you need to do is record it with a major 7th because when you change your chords with the left hand, the keyboard will then automatically calculate and fill the gaps." My question is, if the song for which I'm creating the style does not have any major 7th chords in it, do I still need to record it using a major 7th?

@@Abby-zi4xi all rhythmic patterns should contain cmaj7 notes. For example if you want to make an arpeggio of c chord play b e g b - if will play c e g c when you save and play it back.
