Leila Khaled Interview: Palestine is an International Liberation Struggle

Amid Israel's brutal bombing of Gaza, Palestinian icon Leila Khaled spoke about the Palestinian struggle for freedom and about the need for intensified international solidarity with Palestine. She also spoke about her history in the liberation movement and the inevitability of resistance.

I first heard of Leila Khaled when I was 13 back in 1970. I didn't understand her cause back then but I admired her as a woman and a freedom fighter even as the UK press painted her in some other way. I understand the cause much better now, but I haven't thought about this amazing woman for quite some time. Thanks YT for bringing her back into my life. Thank you Leila. I hope one day your efforts will pay off and there will be a safe home for all Palestinians.

There was a Jewish resistor once who lived in Galilee and he was martyred and now, he appears his memory is celebrated by many around the world as a prophet or an activist for Jewish rights. Where there are an oppressed peoples, no matter what era, no matter where, there will be resistors and they will be called terrorists. There was a strong man in South Africa who spent much of his life in a prison on Robin Island - he was a resistor for the Blacks of South Africa who were being oppressed by the Whites and was called a terrorist. Now his memory is celebrated as a justice fighter who successfully freed the Bantustans the murderous apartheid of the SA regime of the time who were killing people with little regard for the Black population. Before that, during the German occupation of France, there was the French Resistance - the Germans called them terrorists. We called them freedom fighters. Same in Algeria against the French occupation there. No matter where you turn, an oppressed peoples will rise up - French Revolution anyone?
